‘This Is My Jail’: Corruption Case Goes to Trial

Juliet Linderman, MSN, November 20, 2014

Gang leaders ruled the Baltimore City Detention Center, using smuggled cellphones to direct crimes on the streets outside, dealing drugs and getting four guards pregnant, a prosecutor said Wednesday at the opening of a major corruption trial involving dozens of officers and inmates.

Prosecutor Robert Harding said corrupt guards allowed the state-run jail to become the undisputed turf of the Black Guerilla Family, a gang led locally by Tayvon “Bulldog” White.

White was indicted last year along with 16 other inmates and 27 correctional officers, but agreed to cooperate and is expected to testify against the others.

The indictment detailed how compliant guards helped BGF members smuggle drugs and cellphones–crucial for conducting outside business–into correctional facilities.

Just who was boss in the Baltimore jail became evident in a call “Bulldog” made to a friend in January 2013 while he was behind bars awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge, court papers show.

“This is my jail. You understand that,” White was recorded as saying. “I make every final call in this jail . . . everything come to me.”

{snip}

The defendants faced charges including conspiracy, drug distribution and money laundering. Nearly all accepted plea deals. This trial involves two inmates, five guards and another state employee.

Harding described a jail plagued with corruption, where criminals operated with impunity. Four of the five officers on trial had sex with gang members, he said.

{snip}

Defendants include Joseph “Monster” Young, accused of being a floor boss who punished inmates suspected of stealing cellphones from a fellow gang member; and Russell Carrington, or “Rutt,” who allegedly tried to recruit guards as smugglers.

{snip}

The indictment provoked harsh criticism in Maryland. The prisons chief resigned his post six months later, and several new laws were passed to strengthen security and oversight.

The Public Safety department added staff in its intelligence and investigations unit and is developing a polygraph unit to test guard candidates, spokesman Mark Vernarelli said. The department invested $4 million in technology to block calls on unauthorized cellphones, and the facility is searched at least once a week, he said.

One new law enables the state to remove guards without pay for bringing not just drugs and alcohol, but also a cellphone or charger behind bars. Another raises fines for visitors who smuggle in electronics, and increases jail time for inmates caught with contraband.

{snip}

The BGF is considered primarily a prison gang, though its operations have branched out onto the streets of major cities across America. It is organized in units or “bubbles,” and each unit has a commander and others who perform specific duties. The Black Guerilla Family also has its own manual, “The Black Book,” sold to inmates at a discounted price, according to court documents.

{snip}

Despite the latest upgrades and scrutiny, the gang still maintains its stronghold in the jail, said detective Jonathan Hayden, who testified Tuesday in a separate BGF drug case.

“They still have quite a bit of control, especially within the ‘working men,'” Hayden said, referring to inmates assigned janitorial, food service or laundry jobs. “They still have a very good highway of information flowing from the jail onto the street.”

Seems to blacks, jail’s just a place to cool your heels and have a family reunion.

    • Cheri Rodriguez

What the hell ever happened to putting them on chain gangs and making them work out in the fields 12 hours a day?

      • Ike Eichenberg

“What the hell ever happened to putting them on chain gangs and making them work in the fields 12 hours a day?”

        Cool Hand Luke style.

      • William

What happened was that the prisoners on the chain gangs – both black and white – were being worked, beaten, and starved to death.

        • I was at a “low”, so we were put to work maintaining the facility and cooking and serving meals. That’s why they have inmate classification systems.

          • none of your business

You were in federal prison which doesn’t have the huge majority of blacks in county and state prisons.

        • me

Waaaah! Puke! If you or your family were victimized, you’d be singing a different tune. Bread, water, and the lash would greatly reduce recidivism in the average Negro.

          • William

If it were a member of your family on a chain gang getting ‘bread, water, and the lash’ you would definitely be singing a different tune. It all sounds like a great idea until it happens to you or a member of your family.

          • ghettovalley

I think that punishment should fit the crime. Someone who sold a bag of pot to an undercover should not face the same punishment as someone who raped and murdered an old lady. Child molesters, rapists, murderers, I could care less if they’re sentenced to a few decades of hard labor. Maybe it would even dissuade others from engaging in such activities.

        • Cheri Rodriguez

Whipping. Branding. Sterilization. Cutting the Achilles Tendon. The stocks. The Ludovico Technique (rap & hip hop substituted for Beethoven’s Ninth). There are lots of non-lethal ways to bring down the black violent crime rate AND population without killing them.

        • 1G25

          I’ll bet they behaved, though.

          • William

It’s hard to misbehave when you’re dead.

        • Canadian Friend

worked, beaten and starved to death on the chain gang? ok but…don’t you think that was a sort of deterent while our present “luxury hotels” for criminals is not?

Why do people do not walk up to grizzly bear and kick them? because they know the consequences.

If jail was a horrible place where you were worked to death maybe more criminals would think twice before doing a crime?

Pampering them with color tv, air conditioning, free healthcare, nice hot meals is not a crime deterrent.

          • none of your business

I have always felt that one reason for low crime rates among Whites is that the blacks have made prison so horrible Whites go straight to avoid being locked up with blacks.

      • none of your business

It’s the guards, affirmative action in action. Like the post office, VA and bus drivers, prison and jail guard has become a blacks only occupation. Thank Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey, the Fat drunk Kennedy I forget his first name and most of all, the Supreme Court’s rulings on affirmative action for this. But this is just blacks being black.
Those babies the guards are carrying are the best argument in favor of abortion. If this offends all you naïve souls who believe that conservatism and Christianity are pro White, so be it.

        • Canadian Friend

Speaking of blacks being blacks, Fergusson is in flames, there is rioting, looting, violence etc etc

Obama’s sons at work…Obama must be a proud father now…

    • Anyone eventually just gets used to lockup. The fact that I was not dependent upon parole (there isn’t any in the feds) left me certain of the exact day I would be released, so long as I didn’t get any disciplinary write-ups. This knowledge doubtless helped. So far as the guards were concerned, I might as well have been invisible – one of them at the duty desk once asked me whether I was even in the right unit. Even the only staff who knew me were the ones who’d been my bosses at various work assignments.

      • M&S

Does segregation of the ‘lows’ keep them from any contact with the higher security felons or are the facilities themselves separated? Is this a Federal Facility only rule or how did the Baltimore screwup happen?

Also, just because I’m an ass, the aircraft in ‘Con Air’ is not a C130 Hercules but a C-123 Provider.
Easy silhouette recognition features: C-130s have four turbo prop engines, bulged fuselage main landing gear fairings and a thimble nose. C-123s have two radial engines with (mark dependent) a pair of underwing jet booster pods for takeoff and a rear fuselage that looks like someone has kicked it upwards.

        • We had a Texas firefighter in for a three-month federal misdemeanor sentence, and their locking him up with felons probably violated his rights as a misdemeanor offender. I gave him a box of laundry detergent, some swords & sorcery novels and showed him around. He was OK, but he never had to stand the six-month break-in period, so he was still a bit “off”. The old hands look out for the newbies. When I was in complete despair in July 2000, one of the old-timer repeat-offenders played chess with me. That helped. Decent people look out for others during hard times.

Because of Affirmative Action, a certain percentage of the new hires were required to be black. Because of the criminal background requirements the city of Baltimore had for guards, very few black men who applied were qualified. The result was that they hired black women.

      • me

I guess that’s one way for the hair-hat, six hundred pound Africanus Sheboonus to get her freak on–when the Negro males are locked up and can’t run away.

      • LexiconD1

Here in CA you can have a felony, including drugs, and still be hired as a prison guard. Not kidding, at least when I applied, and took the test (I passed) in 1999. They passed me over because I need to wear corrective eyeglasses/contact lenses. But, having a drug felony was okay…

        Only in CA.

  • And what is the straw that stirred the drink in the BGF being able to run the Baltimore City Jail in all essence?

Affirmative action black women jail guards.

      • Harry

113 is Mensa level high on the IQ test.

        • ghettovalley

15% of blacks score higher on IQ tests than your average white. That doesn’t sound too bad, until you then realize that 85% of them are below the average level of intelligence in America. I don’t know whether to hate them or pity them sometimes.

      • none of your business

How do you know his IQ is 113? That is bright normal, 120 being very bright normal.

    • ghettovalley

Take note of the gorilla-like bone structures in the face as well as the slightly retarded look in the eyes. As shocking as this may be to hear this is actually the norm in the black community.

When the story broke, the papers reported that the gang instructed its members to target obese guards who were single and lonely.

      • Usually Much Calmer

Aww. That’s sweet. Mencken would be pleased.

  • OyVey00

The guards must be black. White women would’ve at least used contraception. Probably.

    • I think that might be wishful thinking.

    • MannyR

All the guards in this case were chocolate as they say.

      • Kenner

No one with a sense of smell would mistake them for chocolate.

  • Guard need to be allowed a little more leeway in physically dealing with inmates. Its clear that the inmates aren’t intimidated at all.

Why are there women guards in make prisons anyway?

    • Tarczan

Did you ever see those “Lockup” shows when they visited foreign prisons? The toughest prison in Russia is called “Black Dolphin”, and wow, what hard time. The inmates are afraid to look at the guards, and walk around with their heads down and hands behind their backs. I’d love to see some of these darkies sent there.

      • I watched that one from a link posted from this site this last year. As I remember, those inmates are not even allowed to look at the corrections officers, and walk with their hands behind their backs because they are cuffed. Their heads are covered with hoods even when being escorted from one prison building to another, just so they can not learn the layout of the compound and then plan an escape.

Even their cells were dived into two, lockable sections, so they could not sleep on their bunks during the day.

The inmates themselves were rapists, murders and at least one cannibal. The Knoxiville Hooror rapists need that.

        • Bonny Alba

That was mainly meant for Tarczan because I wanted to point out that this politically correct society might apply that to us. They would prefer to do so.

          • Tarczan

I understand what you are saying, the treatment in those prisons is inhumane, but we don’t need to have the resorts we have today as prisons. If the prisoners get physical or abusive, they should be punished.

Obama would love to send all of us to the Black Dolphin.

          • The Worlds Scapegoat

Psychopaths do not have any “feelings” to hurt. They are primitive animals, and only feel physical pain and pleasure. You cannot be inhumane to inmates because humans are the only animals that torture their prey. No other animal will do that. The phrase “inhumane torture” is an oxymoron.

          • UncleSham

            I’ve seen cats torture mice.

          • I was once a prison inmate and still a convicted federal felon on the Terrorist Watch List. I have no complaints about the guards and staff at Ft. Worth. There is nothing left that could be used to emotionally hurt me, except my family.

          • none of your business

Blacks love prison. Their priorities are, sex, food, lots of leisure time to blather and babble and gossip then shelter. For black men, prison is heaven, All their needs are met. Blacks are basically herd animals. They feel comfortable surrounded by their own kind and bossed around by the big boss.

      • I watched that one from a link posted from this site this last year. Common sense tells me that there are a few jobs women just shouldn’t do. Combat soldier and prison guard in a men’s prison are among them. Feminism, like every other movement of the left, threw out common sense long ago.

This is what usually happens when Negroes are tasked with supervising fellow Negroes. There is a complete breakdown of order and following rules. The same goes for the workplace where Negroes are supposed to supervise fellow Negroes. Allegiance to their race is priority one with them.

    • Rhialto

It may not be so much allegiance, as Blacks doing things the Black way. The Black way is dictatorship: There’s the big man who gives orders and dispenses rewards and punishments. Until a new big man replaces the old one.

Your reaction might be that this is the way all groups function. To some extent this is true, but the head of a department within an organization is another employee with fixed powers and responsibilities. Blacks in middle management positions tend to minimize their responsibilities, and use their powers for personal enhancement.

Such is my experience with Black Diversityite managers.

    • Earl P. Holt III

I would speculate that most of the drugs and other contraband that finds its way into our state and federal prison systems are effectuated by black prison guards…

    • The Worlds Scapegoat

The same thing happened when I was in the Army. Blacks would cover for each other. If one of them didn’t want to work, all they had to do was go to see the black medic and say “I don’t feel like working today,” and the black medic would write him a profile for a couple weeks so he didn’t have to do anything. If a white person came to see the black medic with black and blue ribs, and unable to breath, he would just be given a handful of Motrin, and sent off to do what he normally does.

      .

      • There’s nothing like that in battle. If you shirk, you’re dead, and so is everyone else.

        • none of your business

That is why blacks don’t go into the combat jobs. They prefer jobs where they can lay around an office, warehouse or vehicle repair place all day doing drugs, harassing the women, gossiping, griping and using up the taxpayers money.

    • Douglas Quaid

The worst job I ever had was one where I had about 3 layers of black bosses before you got to the whites who really ran things. Those people got off from treating me like garbage, me being one of the few whites who were under their rule.

A perfect example, my daughter was having surgery, I informed my manager that I would need that day off about 2 months in advance. She scheduled me for the day anyway. I tried to get someone to switch with me, none of them would. When the day arrived I called in and told them I wouldn’t be there. They said it didn’t count and put me down as a “No call no show.”

I was pulled into their office the next day I worked, I could see that underneath the stern officious faces they wore they were actually enjoying reprimanding me, it was obvious. Bear in mind, my black co-workers would call in and show up late all the time, yet they never faced discipline. Everything in me wanted to tell them what horrible excuses for human beings they were but I needed the job.

My happiest day was the day I turned in my 2 weeks notice, and seeing the dumbfounded looks on their faces. They asked why I was leaving and I simply said, “I’m moving on to bigger and better things in life.”

Worst place I ever worked, it lasted a long torturous 6 months.

BGF or BMF whatever they’re calling themselves these days were able to get away with this because of one factor, Black prison guards and staff. All we hear constantly is that if Blacks are given decent paying respectable jobs they’ll turn away from crime. Bulls#it! They’re obsessed with thug culture and criminality. Being a jail or prison guard is a good job period. Upwards of $21 an hour with ample overtime and union benefits. Despite all that these blacks choose to throw that all away and keep it real with the thugs. Don’t hire blacks for anything other than cooking barbecue and waxing cars.

They just clock in, survive a shift feed, herd, clean and bed down the inmates. It is not all that different from being a cattle, dairy, sheep or hog farm hand. The pay is very high for a black thug or thugette who managed a GED. A Latvian physicist, Uris Zvirds who did post-doc work with my ex-father once had a visitor, a very old fellow – his father – who had driven from Canada, but who then flew back there, leaving the car for his son to use. The old fellow had joined the Waffen SS during the war, and was eventually captured by Canadian forces. Mrs. Zvirds used to be taken in by the KGB once a year and grilled over what had happened to her husband, and she always explained that he was lost in the war. In one of my work assignment reviews there, they were asked what they would do with each of us if it was private industry. He wrote “I would retire and let him run the store.” That was 4:00 AM to noon kitchen shift.

The worst part of it for me was that I was homesick, but not in the usual way, as I had already done a lot of long-term travelling. I missed my house and a decent bed, I missed my car and my books, I missed the night sky, everything about normal life. The guys with whom I was locked up were the same sort of folks you might meet at the checkout line at a supermarket, except each and every one of us had really screwed up.

The constant noise bothered me a bit at first, but I relearned old habits and so slept like a rock. It was very depressing at first, but my sense of humor saw me through and made me a lot of friends, as did the informal study classes I ran for guys working on their GEDs (mandatory for federal inmates who had not finished high school). I won’t call it courage, because that involves some sense of hope, and I knew I was going to have to do the whole stretch, but I also knew I had to get that done.

It wasn’t terrible, and the feds gave me a free head-shrinker for three years after my release, but I still have nightmares every night in which I have been locked up again and nobody will tell me why. These are better than those I used to have, in which I was under fire and couldn’t get up.

And now the taxpayers are paying for her baby daddy to be in prison and her baby. That’s why whites need to move out of black counties and live among other whites. If you’re paying country taxes in a black neighborhood you’re paying salaries for black government works – police, teachers, administrators, etc on top of paying for black handout programs.

It is a condition called “sanpaku” (Japanese, I think) and indicates a profound internal disorder.

It may be what the FBI searches for, and some psychopaths may have those types of eyes, and that guy is definitely a psychopath, but from my experience dealing with psychos, it isn’t a tell-tale sign of psychopathy. The guy probably just has a primitive mind which resembles 99.99% of the psychopaths mind. I also have more experience with lighter colored psychos than blacks.

I would never trust a guy that looked like that anyways.

If farmers can exist in self sufficiency, then work farm prisons can be set up the same way. 12 hour work days in the fields. Full monitoring, not one inch of space not on camera surveillance. Flogging for infractions. Death penalty for rape, attempted murder.

“When prisoners and criminals fear police and legal authority, crime will decrease accordingly”- Poupon Marks.

Thanks for the info. I never noticed that when I was in law enforcement. But I never look at men’s faces.
