Danica Patrick Questions Need for NASCAR Diversity Program

Fox News, October 27, 2014

Danica Patrick has revved up some controversy, questioning whether NASCAR needs its Drive for Diversity program, which aims to increase female and minority participation in the racing car series.

“I have never benefited from the Diversity program,” Patrick said on Friday after a reporter from the Danville (Va.) Register and Bee asked her about diversity in stock car racing. NASCAR honored Wendell Scott, the only African-American to win in its top-level series, at its event in Martinsville, Va., this past weekend. Scott, who was born in Danville, won a Grand National (predecessor to Sprint Cup) race in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1963. Darrell Wallace, Jr., took the checkered flag at the Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville in 2013, becoming only the second African American to win a race in one of NASCAR’s national series, and repeated the feat on Saturday in a truck wearing Scott’s number and paint scheme.

Patrick cut short a follow-up question about what needs to be done for more women to enter NASCAR, saying, “Well, clearly then I wouldn’t think that there needs to be a diversity program if I’m here and I didn’t get in.

“It wasn’t like they asked me to be in it. They didn’t give my team or me any money. They didn’t say we’d love you . . . you know?

“So I would say that you have to just make it. And I’m not saying I’m here, just like, I’m not saying that being a girl hasn’t helped, but I didn’t need a program to make it happen.”

Patrick, the first woman to earn a full-time position with a NASCAR Sprint Cup team, is the only woman currently competing in the series. She also is the only woman ever to win an IndyCar event.

NASCAR’s senior vice president of racing operations, Jim Cassidy, responded to Patrick’s comments in a statement to the Charlotte Observer:

We’re fortunate that there are many different paths of entry into our sport for our participants. We have seen a growing number of talented diverse and female drivers compete in NASCAR thanks to our Drive for Diversity program started in 2004. We’re very proud of the program, which also recruits and trains pit crew members, and remain more committed than ever to it.

Yeah the managers of NHL, NASCAR are shockingly stupid. Way to stick it to the fan base that pays your salary and is overwhelmingly white. On a nonstop crusade to eradicate whites from all sports where genetics hasn’t done so already.

    • Whitetrashgang

Well Nascar isnt really a sport,Although if a 300 lb black woman was a driver I would watch.

      • Larry Klein

        Lol true enough

      • Drifter745

I stopped a large black woman one day because she was holding a styrofoam plate in one hand and a chicken leg in the other while cruising at 50 mph. Her reason for doing so? “I was hongry!” I was too pissed to even write the ticket.

    • TruthBeTold

Car racing is a rubber-meets-the-road sport. There’s no way on earth to make it ‘racially’ fair. It all comes down 100% to performance.

They can encourage blacks and others to try out but few have the mental skills to race at high speeds.

      • MikeofAges

You all miss the point. Although the diversity advocates do want to increase participation by women and minorities, and why can’t people set a goal for themselves, their equal and concomitant aim (why use a little word when a big one will do?) is to torment whites, especially those with lesser access to opportunity in the first place, and limit their opportunities. If you took evidence of limited participation by some definable demographic as evidence that some effort could be undertaken to increase the participation rate, that by itself might be a worthwhile goal and one that we could endorse. When it crosses over into active efforts to truncate other people, that cannot be accepted. But that is what Affirmative Action always has done, from the first day. Don’t be deceived. These people are out to punish whites. Especially educationally and socioeconomically disadvantaged whites with any aspiration higher than simply “a job”. Disadvantaged whites are the people with no “goodies” to pass out to other as the price of saving themselves.

        • TruthBeTold

I’m well aware of what blacks are doing. Agitate, agitate, agitate any and every issue to keep whitey on edge and make ‘the white man’ suffer for his crimes against non-whites. I just don’t play their game.

My comment addressed the false reasoning blacks give us all the time about ‘blacks can’t get ahead because racist white people won’t let them in the club’.

Their arguments are always rooted in a false premise; that’s a given.

    NASCAR should recruit Asians.

BTW if you don’t like the way Asians drive just keep off the sidewalk…

    • Lewis33

More faith than a Asian lady changing lanes…

  • ncpride

“I have never benefited from the Diversity program,” …..

Of course not, silly. Increasingly, ‘diversity’ means no White women, either. How do ya like them apples, loony liberals?

    • APaige

They should try to get a Black-owned business to sponsor a car. There is….hmmm…, well maybe the color green is too important to risk for the sake of diversity.

  • Truthseeker

Every predominantly-White organization has to have a “diversity” program. Just in case White men haven’t gotten the message yet that they’re morally inferior to everyone else.

  • dd121

Blacks do well at sports that feature strength and speed, like football. Sports like NASCAR favor, intelligence, planning and guile. Blacks aren’t going to be great race car drivers just like they aren’t great programmers.
I guess the left will pistol whip Danica. They don’t like anybody who contradicts the official leftist line.

    • Rhialto

Speed, both in reaction time and muscle quickness, are definitely African male strong points. That presents a problem for the Liberals: How can this be “blamed” on White male Racism?

      • dd121

It’s “racism” if that truth is spoken aloud.

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

The next step will be to handicap White drivers – and give blacks, gays, mestizos a head start on the track and implement a quota system for wins to make it fair and equitable.

Government will cover the cost of the millions it takes to support a NASCAR team.

      • Whitetrashgang

You mean give white drivers a IQ of 70 and nappy hair?

        • IstvanIN

Wouldn’t the nappy hair catch bugs?

          • brior

            Speed tape!

    • Realist

“Blacks do well at sports that feature strength and speed, like football.”
      Not so much with weightlifting.

    • brior

No they aren’t done with her by a long shot, The apology will be in a few days then the full tilt back-peddle will ensue. The sponsors will get publicly shamed and issue all kinds of inclusive, dieversity, anti- micro-agression laced vomit.

  • phillyguy

she wants diversity let’s lock her in an elevator with Ray Rice and see how she feels the next about it the next day

    • Rhialto

Non-Lesbian Diversity loving White women would be very joyful and grateful.

      • IstvanIN

        and unconscious.

        • Kenner

They’d have to be unconscious just to step into that elevator.

  • Ike Eichenberg

Where’s the diversity program for short and fat Jewish guys to become NBA players?

    • phillyguy

Eddie Gottlieb, the South Philadelphia Hebrew Association, they started professional basketball.

      • Ike Eichenberg

Yep, and a huge number of the NBA team owners happen to be…

    • bubo

They’re content with owning them, literally and figuratively.

  • Massif1

Not the first time Danica gets the spotlight for saying something or doing something. She needs attention to get the sponsors to pay up.

  • Anglo

It’s sad to see NASCAR now being ruined by diversity. At least I can still enjoy downhill skiing and other skiing events, which is really my favorite sport I like to watch.

    • dukem1

You have got to be the only person in the world who enjoys watching skiing – at least if it’s on TV…ARRGGHHH….I’d rather watch chicks playing soccer….and I’ve done it, and it is torture!

    • De’Ontavious Jizzaiah Jones

Yeah but did you know there are black ski clubs all over US trying to increase skiing diversity? There are 2 black clubs in FL alone. All the black ski clubs go on ski trips the same week every year at same ski resorts which must be a nightmare for the resorts. You can Google it to find their ski club Web sites and there is a black ski umbrella organization as well. If you are ever planning a ski trip verify beforehand black ski clubs won’t be there. It’s one of my several activities (scuba, skiing, kayaking, hiking) where I usually never have to deal with any blacks..

  • JohnEngelman

It was never to go though exertions to increase black participation in boxing and basketball. As soon as blacks were allowed to compete they dominated.

    • B.A_2014

They sure as he’ll don’t dominate in boxing now. Most champions are white. The UFC has a majority white and Hispanic champions. The best soccer players are white likewise rugby.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Jesse Jackson said this about NASCAR way back in 1999:

“We were qualified to play baseball before 1947. We are qualified to race cars now.”

    NASCAR gave Jackson $250,000.

Dale Earnhardt, Sr. told Jackson: “You have the money. Buy yourself some cars and go racing. Let’s see what you got!!”

Drive for Diversity only means one thing: more crashes and death on the race track.

    • Whitetrashgang

Jesse should have to take a IQ test, just saying.

  • Luca

Blacks in NASCAR? They’ll be stealing the cars and driving them right off the track.

  • libertarian1234

“We’re very proud of the program, which also recruits and trains pit crew members, and remain more committed than ever to it.”

Which translates to he’s all for it, because it will increase his wealth and power.

Like anything else, if the people fail to support these money and power dregs by boycotting the events and the only way to get them back is to reject their diversity madness, please believe me these pigs would be wearing grey, carrying a Confederate Battle Flag and making “Dixie” the opening song to all the events.

And if the people accept it, then they deserve to lose one of the last remaining truly white events in this country. I’ll never attend one of their debacles.

  • No where to run…. No where to hide…. from diversity.

White people need a country of their own.

Every corporation in “Diversityland” is anti-white. Every. Last. One.

Nascar is terrible racing anyway but I do find it funny that the “redneck” “hillbilly” racist good ole boys of Nascar prostrate themselves to appease the diversity gods yet high level global motorsport like Moto GP motorcycle racing and Formula One wouldn’t think of putting unqualified people on the track for the sake of “diversity” and most certainly the fans wouldn’t stand for it.

I just wish we could return to some semblance of normalcy but I know it will never happen.

  • propagandaoftruth

Hey, if tardo driving is the worse you can say about a group of 105 avg IQ peeps…

Not worth researching IMO, ha ha!

    • MikeofAges

Should be researched. A while back, saw a car being driven very weirdly. Made the uncharitable quip, “Driving while Asian”. But the driver turned out to be an Asian female, and not middle aged or old. In my youth, black women often were awful drivers. That problem seemed to fix itself by the time the 1980s came around as young black women seemed no longer to have . No. Not a joke. Culture and driving can be an issue and a legitimate research subject.

  • Jim

Like Cracker Barrel misjudging it’s customer base when it removed Duck Dynasty products after Phil R’s gay comments (as stated in another current AR article) NASCAR is severely misjudging it’s customer base when it strives for diversity. Blacks, on the whole, lack a propensity for mechanical things, and therefore black interest in NASCAR is going to be limited, anyway. Just because there are some blacks out there who might be good at it, that doesn’t mean they are going to draw blacks in in great numbers. Have Serena Williams and Tiger Woods brought huge numbers of blacks into their respective sports? Not really. How many blacks are going to watch golf or tennis on TV vs. basketball or football? And tennis and golf are going to be a whole lot more appealing to blacks than NASCAR.

    • Jim

And besides, black drivers would stop in the middle of the race track to talk to each other like they do in the ghetto.

  • katzkiner

What is wrong with putting the best drivers behind the wheel? Do you want a second string doctor for diversities’ sake? When one of these Affirmative Action drivers loses control of his 3500 lb. projectile and plows through the crowd at 200 mph diversity will not save anybody. There is stupid, then there is REAL STUPID. This is the latter.

  • brior

Personal experience! Don’t lie and say you have never been behind an overly cautious asian driver that refuses to drive over the speed of plant growth.
