Is the White-Right in South Africa a Threat?

Victoria Schneider, Al Jazeera, November 7, 2013

It was a brazen plot to reinstall white rule in South Africa, and evict all people of colour from its borders.

To trigger the overthrow of the African National Congress-led government, anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela would be assassinated by a roadside bomb when he visited a rural school to open it.

In the chaos that ensued, the white supremacists would install military rule and expel some 40 million black South Africans to Zimbabwe, and another 1.2 million Indians to South Asia.

As fate would have it, the 2002 plan to kill Mandela failed when he flew to the school by helicopter instead of driving. It was a plot that–had it succeeded–would have unleashed violence among races and, at the very least, greatly destabilised the young democracy.

“Mandela would have been killed that day if he hadn’t taken a helicopter,” said judge Eben Jordaan, reading out the verdict in Pretoria’s High Court last week after members of the right-wing Boeremag group were convicted and sentenced.

“This would have caused chaos and bloodshed in the country. The Boeremag’s aim was to destroy democracy in South Africa.”

Mandela–the Nobel Peace Prize winner and the country’s first black president–spent 27 years in jailing for opposing apartheid. At age 95, Mandela is currently recovering from a lung ailment that hospitalised him earlier this year.

Deterrent

The 10-year long court process was South Africa’s longest and one of its most expensive trials. It was the first high treason trial in South Africa’s post-apartheid era and is believed to have cost taxpayers about 100 million rand (US$9.8 million).

Government spokesman Harold Maloka praised the court’s decision. “These sentences will act as a deterrent to those who threaten the stability of our hard-fought democracy,” he said in a statement.

While many were happy justice was finally served, some supporters and family members expressed outrage over the high treason verdicts.

“I cried so much, I don’t even know what was going on around me,” said Lorraine du Toit, daughter of Mike du Toit, a leader of the plot to kill Mandela who was given a maximum 35-year sentence. “Everyone was so upset, it was very emotional.”

The 21 convicted members of Boeremag–which means “Boer Power” in Afrikaans–were arrested in 2003 and held since then. Du Toit, 22, said she and her sister expected their father would get five years after already serving 11-and-a-half years in jail.

“Many people are angry. Especially the people who support this and who are concerned by the conditions in South Africa. You know, the farm murders and things like that,” du Toit said.

‘Oppression’?

About 400 white South Africans protested at a “Red October” rally against the killing of white farmers in Pretoria last month, and demanded the government end their “oppression.” Protest signs read: “Stop white genocide!” and “No farmer, no food, no future.”

They urged that a separate Afrikaner state be created and policies that give preference to black South Africans be scrapped.

Dan Roodt is a right-wing Afrikaans writer and activist. He also cited “farm killings” as a reason to support the grievances of Africaners.

South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world with an average of 45 people killed each day, however, most of the victims are black.

Roodt said Afrikaners were the “new victims” of South Africa, and their situation had worsened over the past 10 years. Afrikaners, descendants of Dutch settlers, make up about seven percent of South Africa’s population, while 13 percent speak Afrikaans.

While many Afrikaners complain about their economic plight, white households earn six times that of black households.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Roodt distanced himself from the Boeremag of the early 2000s, calling them “lunatic freaks.” However, he said its convicted members have gained martyr status among the Afrikaner population after the trial dragged on for so long.

“It got so much publicity and people, even if they reject the notion of violence, feel sympathy for them as having tried to regain some form of last Afrikaners political power,” Roodt said.

Doomsday?

One far-right organisation called the Suidlanders is preparing for what it believes will be Afrikaners’ doomsday at the hands of the black majority. Over the last decade, the group has developed an evacuation plan for white South Africans for when the country slides into chaos.

“The worst case scenario would be a full-scale revolution with black-on-white genocide,” Gustav Müller, the leader Suidlanders, told Al Jazeera. “It gets worse every day. The ANC also has not even been able to uphold good governance, and there is no hope of turning the direction to a positive trend.”

The death of Mandela could be a potential to trigger for the uprising against whites, Müller said, but he added bigger threats include “national coordinated strikes, fuel shortage, electricity supply problem etc.”

The Suidlanders have secured farm land all over the country to use as a refuge and a place to defend themselves in such a scenerio, he said.

{snip}

Lorraine du Toit, who has spent half her life with her father locked up, acknowledged that “actions have consequences.” But she said the situation for South Africa’s white community helps explain the Boeremag plot to kill Mandela and expel all people of colour.

“One has to see where those people come from. Many Afrikaners don’t see a future in this country,” du Toit said.

Ever wonder what would happen if Detroit’s abandoned neighborhoods were bulldozed, converted to farm land, and given to South African refugees?

    • The Final Solution

Don’t you know that whites can never be refugees?

Is Mandela dead? Brain dead? Kept on life support so his family can tap into his investments?

    • Spartacus

      He was also brain-dead.

That’s goes double for his wife.

So why can’t the White South Africans have a state of their own? In every other civil conflict, the various ethnic minorities are separated into their own lands. This happened in Ireland; in India; in Palestine, etc. Why not separate the White from the black South Africans, then? Of course, I know why: It would give us White people worldwide ideas of how to solve our problems and retake our homelands.

    • sbuffalonative

Whites should write a ‘Declaration of Autonomy’. Something to the affect, ‘Wishing no ill or malice to others, we, the White minority of South Africa, in order to preserve our own unique heritage and diversity, hereby establish a homeland for our own people’.

      • MBlanc46

They would be a good gesture, but it looks to me as if the Afrikaners and other white South Africans should be making plans to get the h*ll out of South Africa.

    There, I fixed it.

Dan Roodt spoke at the 2011 American Renaissance conference (much scaled-down because a Charlotte city council member called area hotels and nudged them to cancel AmRen reservations).

One point Roodt made which relates to us all — wherever we live:

“…in order to secure our identity, . . . it is necessary to discover the European past — in art, in literature, philosophy and our former identity that was very coherent, the scintillating glories of European civilizations of the past. We need to rediscover those and re-transmit them to our children.”

The power elites are distorting and deleting our history because a people without a history is no longer a people, just a mass of selfish individuals, each looking out only for himself. Our power is in our culture and history.

    • ncpride

That black city council member you speak of, Patrick Cannon, was just elected Mayor of Charlotte. No surprise there, but still scary.

Al Jazeera is an excellent news group. A lot more objective than our big media.

  • Truthseeker

The Boers should do whatever it takes to get a homeland of their own. The black government doesn’t care anything about them, so let them have a state that will address their needs.

    • Sick of it

I don’t understand why they did not simply move into Namibia en masse and create whatever country they wanted over there.

  • The Final Solution

This is what happens when you don’t finish the job. If they had taken care of the indigenous problem when they first colonized Africa, there wouldn’t be any issue here. Nowhere on Earth can two races coexist in the same geographic area.

    • IstvanIN

The problems began when they allowed blacks to settle in Afrikaner areas as laborer. The British caused a lot of problems by importing Indians.

    • John R

Good point. Funny how there are no indigenous problems in Argentina. Funny, how Argentines are not lectured about “taking the land away from…”

  • bigone4u

When whites ruled, SA was on the national news every night, with the white government demonized. How about telling the truth about the black government, you news guys. The Satanic torture and murder of whites is a story worth telling, but you news guys are too scared of your masters to tell it. Shame on you.

    • Jesse_from_Sweden

The wording in this newsbit says it all really.

“Mandela–the Nobel Peace Prize winner and the country’s first black president–spent 27 years in jailing for opposing apartheid”

No, Mandela was not in jail for opposing apartheid. He was in jail because he oppposed apartheid with bombs, murder and other acts of terrorism.

“While many Afrikaners complain about their economic plight, white households earn six times that of black households.”

Ah, kinda like jews in germany prior to WWII then.
And we all know how well that went….

And then they keep talking about a black “uprising”. No, a uprising is when someone rises up against something, not when someone who holds the power attacks someone who doesn’t.
If whites were to strike back, that would be an uprising, what would happen if blacks attacked would be the same thing as happened in Germany, just prior to WWII. Namely that the majority, who hold the political power, will commit genocide on a minority.

  • Sick of it

“The Boeremag’s aim was to destroy democracy in South Africa.”
A statement ignoring centuries of white self-rule in pre-Communist South Africa.

  • NorthernWind

“Government spokesman Harold Maloka praised the court’s decision. “These
sentences will act as a deterrent to those who threaten the stability of
our hard-fought democracy,” he said in a statement.”

Give me a break. Your “hard-fought for democracy” is already a bad joke.

  • Pro_Whitey

If that Mandela plot is as described, I think would have been delusional for anyone to have thought they could have pulled it off as supposedly planned. I wonder if maybe the Boeremag did have some plan to kill Mandela, but the rest of it sounds concocted by the likes of the black government and Al Jazeera.
I think the Suidlanders seem to have a relatively decent plan. They ought to concentrate their land holdings in one defensible area, or start picking up property in Namibia. They should have not only farmland, but also access to a port. That and gathering arms seem to be the best they can do under the circumstances. The key to whatever they do is coordinated action. Good luck to them.

  • Blue-eyed Devil

God save my White brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

  • Sick of it

One cannot honestly call any nation run by a Communist Party a representative democracy. Obviously liberals will lie about anything.

  • Jackryanvb

Can t White South Africans do what Jewish Israelis do in some smaller part of South Africa?

  • Yancy Derringer

Thanks for that well-written history and commentary.

    • Seminumerical

Yes thanks. Most people don’t know the history and our journalists lied to us about it.

Separation for the western half might work, but history has shown that something like swapping the blacks for whites, by government order, whether a good idea or a bad one, can’t be done in practice. Some white people might migrate west, but no black people will voluntarily go back east. Life in Khayelitsha is pretty shitty, but the Xhosa I asked say it is infinitely better than where they came from back east.

In a real worldwide economic collapse the west just might declare independence after a civil war. The Zulu are brave fighters, but are too dumb to learn modern infantry tactics.

When the whites had the power to do so, they should have implemented grand apartheid in a serious and credible fashion. Not set up tiny “homelands” for the blacks that were in disconnected chunks, but rather have large, viable nation-states for each of the major ethno-racial groups in South Africa. A Zululand, a Xhosaland, an Afrikanerland, and a New South Africa for the British. Give the Bushmen a reservation much like a wildlife preserve. Implement a large-scale population exchange including mandatory movement of people. Give the colored an enclave of their own, a city-state like Macau or Hong Kong where dedicated multi-racialist types can go to rather than undermine the other states. Most probably to sweeten the deal the two white states would have to agree to provide substantial “development assistance” and “income support” programs to prop up the black states, at least for a time. All the successor states would have to agree to ban within their borders any incitement to violence, aggression against, or domination of any nearby states. Most of all, there would have to be an end to large scale presence of blacks on white land – no more “pass system”, no more treating them as foreigners but letting them live effectively indefinitely in white-run areas as coolie labor, and thus a source of danger. If they are not around, they can’t cause trouble, can’t ever take over.

What were the Great Powers going to do? Go to war to stop it? Once presented with the fait accompli, what argument could they use against it? Russia had expelled the Germans from East Prussia and the Sudetenland. Britain had partitioned Ireland against the wishes of the native, Catholic population to carve out an enclave for the Scots-descended Protestant settler population, and had also put in place a massive Hindu-Muslim population exchange in 1947 with the independence of India and Pakistan. The Great Powers had also agreed to the large-scale Greek-Turkish population exchange after 1923. The USA had endorsed and agreed in treaty to all these steps, and still maintains a reservation system for its own aboriginals.

Yes, this would require some painful retreats and giveaways on the part of whites, some of whom would have to abandon farms and even cities that their ancestors had built and lived in for generations. But blacks would also have to abandon their dream of taking over all of South Africa, lording it over and taxing the whites. This was the only way that everyone concerned could achieve their primary goal – to avoid being dominated and dictated to by ethnic or even racial aliens, to be masters of their own destiny in a land they could call their own.

This could have been done. But the whites leading South Africa did not have the largeness of vision and did not wean themselves of dependence on cheap black labor.

  • Jackryanvb

Russia Today English language is better.

  • Willowville

Native Americans have their own reservations. Why can’t the Afrikaners have space to call their own?
