Xerox: Access Restored for Food Stamp Users

AP, October 12, 2013

People in Ohio, Michigan and 15 other states found themselves temporarily unable to use their food stamp debit-style cards on Saturday, after a routine test of backup systems by vendor Xerox Corp. resulted in a system failure. Xerox announced late in the evening that access has been restored for users in the 17 states affected by the outage, hours after the first problems were reported.

“Restarting the EBT system required time to ensure service was back at full functionality,” spokeswoman Jennifer Wasmer said in an email. An emergency voucher process was available in some of the areas while the problems were occurring, she said.

U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Courtney Rowe underscored that the outage was not related to the government shutdown.

Earlier Saturday shoppers left carts of groceries behind at a packed Market Basket grocery store in Biddeford, Maine, because they couldn’t get their benefits, said shopper Barbara Colman, of Saco, Maine. {snip}

“That’s a problem. There are a lot of families who are not going to be able to feed children because the system is being maintenanced,” Colman said. She planned to reach out to local officials. “You don’t want children going hungry tonight because of stupidity,” she said.

Wasmer said the states affected by the temporary outage also included Alabama, California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.

Ohio’s cash and food assistance card payment systems went down at 11 a.m., said Benjamin Johnson, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Johnson said Xerox asked retailers to revert to a manual system, meaning customers could spend up to $50 until the system was restored.

[ Spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Sheree] Powell said Oklahoma’s Xerox representative told them that the problems stemmed from a power failure at a data center.

“It just takes a while to reboot these systems,” she said.

Should show some of the Twitter talk among blacks threatening to riot because they couldn’t use their EBT.

    • Jesse James

I saw some of those tweets posted on another site. Funny how things our side might say on line are used as grounds for firing and legal action while blacks make endless threats of physical violence and rebellion and are never held accountable. Some of those big talking gangsta’s might not be so eager to riot if they knew how many of us wish they would really go nuts. Chaos and smoke can be an opportunity for more than just “negroes gone wild”.

      • Puggg

What jobs are you going to fire them from for making threatening tweets? You think the kind of blacks who write those tweets actually work?

        • Jesse James

Yes and I think some of them work for the government and your local school system.

        • CoweringCoward

Hey they arrest whites kids for saying anything threatening in the least, even when “just kidding” is in the same line the kid posted!

        • Boris McGuffin

That’s racist! I see reports everyday in the news about the good work that blacks are performing all across the nation. In fact, they lead in certain critical areas, such as: crack hoes, car jackers, convenience store robbers, drug dealers, flash mobs, and rapists.

      • CoweringCoward

They don’t even realize the size of the can of whoopass that white guilt is keeping corked, for now.

  • D.B. Cooper

So, could the problem be traced to some black Affirmative Action computer tech, or some $1 an hour Hindu who received an outsourced job?

She’d better get a job then.

Saw a lady in the local market, her EBT card wouldn’t go through so she had to leave her box of three dozen doughnuts at the checkout stand. You should have seen her little niños crying and wailing for their sugar fix.

The objectives of the MOU are to increase the construction of anaerobic digesters and explore innovative ways to use products previously considered waste streams from dairy production, processing and handling. Sounds like one of those liberal “save the environment” type of meetings.
Well, we do need to give the guilty parties more exposure. Truthfully, I was expecting Courtney to be black, but now that I think of it, that is still mainly a blonde’s name.

You should the stars on your flag with fifty food stamps. Would be more accurate to how America is today…

I do not believe we can exploit the natural resources of the US because they have already been ceded to China to feed these people. They are not stupid. We are. It’s not the “global warming”. It would just be an act of war to renege now. Thus they arm and finance. It’s the only explanation.

Oh please spare me the sob story. People on EBT get so much food, it’s unreal. If the kids “go hungry” then it’s the parent’s fault for not budgeting correctly.

    • Stentorian_Commentator

Yes, $50.00 could go pretty far if you spend it wisely. A good chunk of hamburger, pasta, some canned veggies . . . ah, whom am I kidding? They don’t know what to do with that!

    • Brian

They don’t have one day’s food in the house? Or maybe they’re going to starve if they miss one meal?

      • Rusty Shackelford

Lack of future time orientation is a trait common among the EBT set.

    • Boris McGuffin

White people have gone hungry plenty of times for longer than one night, and for no good reason other than calamity.

I weep not, for the dregs of society.

A clear and unequivocal message should be sent out that, if you cannot afford to feed, clothe, and house your own children, then don’t have children.

  • bigone4u

How about the buggies piled high with junk food that were left in the aisles at WM when the EBT balances were shown to be maxed out. The media reported the “niggas” ran soon as the system started working. Hilarous sight that would have been to see.

    • Stentorian_Commentator

An example of how dysfunction has a way of splattering on others. A lot of that food was bound to spoil or be unusable, causing losses to the store and the other shoppers.

      • IstvanIN

It’s Walmart, they’ll just put the bad food back on the shelf.

  • leftists are delusional

If this doesn’t make you want to increase your gun and ammo collection….

  • Walmart should have shut down the leniency as soon as they saw the first cart of steaks. The workers knew what was going on, they were probably the “tweeters” of the situation.

There are a lot of Negroes and Hispanics in Iowa. If you ever visit sites that track black crime, you’ll see plenty of posts from Des Moines. It was at the Iowa state fair a couple of years ago that there was a “Beat Whitey Day”. And the Hispanics are there for farm labor.

  • MBlanc46

Many Negroes are not capable of functioning in a modern technological economy. It’s been thus for four hundred years. In the past, whites used to require that Negroes worked in exchange for food and shelter. For about the last fifty years, those have been provided with no quid pro quo. Either way, whites have to provide their sustenance.

Sadly I have one of those cards, due to circumstances. Unwanted divorce (praying for reconciliation), son on the autism spectrum, car that needs to be fixed or replaced…somehow. Thankfully I live in a town where I can pretty much walk everywhere.
I buy what we need first, *then* I get my son some treats. One store has “pick 5 packages of meat for $19.95” but during the first week of the month it’s $16.95, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays they have 2 gallon-jugs of milk for $5 (one gallon is normally close to $5). So I take advantage of that and stock up the freezer.
I can make things stretch, it just takes a little imagination and a little planning. And there’s a machine a stone’s throw away where you can get a gallon of water for a quarter.

Did anyone else notice that “maintenanced” is not grammatically correct? The past-tense of “maintain” is “maintained.” I suppose it is just and proper for the spokesperson of Black Run America to be a pseudo-educated embarrassment.

    • Brian

They also like to orientate and conversate. They don’t know how to speak properly so they err on the side of fanciness. ‘If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.’

  • Rick Brooks

No wonder I saw so many dusky hued low-lives yabbering in Spanish and Ebonics at the supermarket on Monday. Their EBT cards must’ve just been re-activated.

  • fuzzypook

    Check out who runs Xerox…

    • fuzzypook

Well I tried to put her picture up but it didn’t work. I will just tell you she is a bantu.

  • A_Nonny_Mouse

Interestingly, the House Republicans totally caved to President “make it as painful as possible” and his Dem-Senate lapdogs just a couple days after this EBT fiasco.

Any possibility that this “EBT glitch” was actually due to Somebody Really High Up arranging a short demonstration of “what might happen if you guys in the House don’t turn the money spigot back on, and we’re forced to cut … certain benefit programs” ????
