Moscow Polls Expose Growing Xenophobia in Russia

Maria Antonova, Google News, September 6, 2013

Bathed in the rosy dusk of late Russian summer, Alexei Navalny paced the stage as thousands of hopeful young Muscovites waved balloons and clapped at his promises to make a stand against corruption and the Kremlin’s grip on political life.

But then came the most anticipated promise. “I will stop the illegal migration orgy!” Navalny, the charismatic opposition candidate in Sunday’s Moscow mayoral polls yelled, his image projected on a giant screen behind him.

The crowd attending the election campaign rally on a recent weekend erupted with whistles and screams, in what was the biggest and longest cheer of the evening.

The Russian capital will hold its first mayoral elections in a decade on Sunday. And while in 2003, the anti-immigration card was played by one candidate who received under four percent of votes, this year it is the main issue for all six candidates.

Asked in July to list their top five concerns, 55 percent of Muscovites said “too many migrants from former Soviet republics and the North Caucasus”, signalling that migration was their biggest worry, even bigger than rising prices and traffic jams.

Even banners with Sergei Mitrokhin, the candidate from the Yabloko liberal party, which has for years shunned nationalist rhetoric, declare that he is against “turning Moscow into a province of Central Asia”.

In some districts of the capital, Russians feel like they are a minority, said one municipal deputy from a neighbourhood in eastern Moscow.

“Parents come to me in tears” after finding out that there are only five Russian children in a school class of 26, the local lawmaker, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

“Others are Vietnamese, Azerbaijani, Korean, Armenian, Uzbek, etc,” she said. “They don’t speak, read or write in Russian.” Russian parents are now petitioning to have a “Slavic” school in the neighbourhood, she said.

“People are really concerned about the number of migrants, about their behaviour,” said the deputy, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

“There are limits to everything, and people have reached the limit of tolerance and assimilation,” she said.

Moscow authorities have recently responded to the growing discontent by raiding garment factories employing illegal migrants and even setting up a special temporary camp for them.

Navalny, whose perceived nationalism and past participation in ultra-nationalist rallies have been vehemently criticised by some in the Russian opposition, last month invited several people of non-Slavic origin to a “round table”.

“Muscovites see that there are a lot of people in the city who live according to different rules and cultural codes,” Navalny said at the event.

He listed the main stereotypes about Muslim migrants: dancing native dances, making barbecues on the streets of Moscow and covering a neighbourhood near the capital’s main mosque with a “sea of backs” during prayer on major holidays.

Moscow Polls Expose Growing Xenophobia in Russia

Leave it to NSALeftWingGoogle to put a negative spin on any story…

    • sbuffalonative

Exactly what I thought when I read the headline.
Why couldn’t it be, “Moscow Polls Shows Concern over Illegal Immigrants”?

      • Lagerstrom

How’s about: “A Sudden Explosion Of Sensibility”?

  • Oh no. We must not let the idea get around that Russia is for Russians. If that catches on, the next thing you know, they’ll start saying that America should be for Americans. All those people who get paid six figures to peddle diversity will actually have to work for a living.

  • kjh64

I’m sick of Whites being accused of “xenophobia” because they don’t want their countries overrun by foreigners. Xenophobia means an irrational fear of foreigners. It is perfectly rational not to want to be colonized or have large numbers of foreigners coming into your country competing for jobs, using welfare, causing crime and making demands.

    • Spartacus

Not foreigners. A German in Sweden is not a foreigner, he’s a guest. A mud will never be anything other than a disease .

    • CoweringCoward

Wish I could give many up votes to that sentiment!

  • Evette Coutier

As I sat here reading this post I realized how sad it is that I see Russia as one of last hopes in the world for racial sanity, just o be disillusioned by the their inability to deal with immigration.

    • Spartacus

Don’t be disheartened – most of their immigrants are actually internal ones, from the south, moving to the more prosperous north. Dark-skins from foreign countries are actually far fewer, probably just 3-4 million, 5 at most.

      • Evette Coutier

Well, if anyone can bring back sanity it’s the crazy Russians.

  • Freedoooom

Remember how the left thought it was fantastic to give up things for free in negotiations with Russia… Like a few months ago…

Now they have turned to Obama wanting to give US taxpayer dollars to homosexual groups, when the anti-gay law has 95% support.

Russians haven’t changed in a few months, always been like this.

  • Spartacus

Good news. I hope the Rus shoot all the dark-skin invaders.

  • Erasmus

So now “Xenophobia” means a politician trying to protect the interests of his constituents? Wow. Just wow.

I wish more of our “leaders” were “xenophobic.”

  • Oil Can Harry

“I will stop the illegal migration orgy!”

    Dude just won my vote…

  • NeanderthalDNA

Last great White hope should things continue to go south for the rest of the White world.

Putin – my kind of bastard.

  • Global Minority

“Moscow Polls Expose Growing Xenophobia in Russia” Really? White Russians have no right to protect their land from an over run of non-white and non-Christians! Tell that to Mexico, China or Japan, Haiti or Africa. For crying out loud! Leave the Rusiians alone.

  • Global Minority

There is much more to the “Emmett Till” story that is not widely known. Of
course, killing him was wrong, (and made him into a “martyr” of the black
“civil-rights” movement). but–it is not generally known that Emmett Till was a
womanizer and attempted to take his cocky “Chicago ways” in dealing with women
to the Deep South. He had a “cocky attitude” and bragged about “getting it on”
with white women–not a good idea in the South. . . According to published
accounts, Mr. Till did not just “whistle” at a white woman, but attempted to
manhandle and fondle a married white woman. In Southern culture, this is the
ultimate form of disrespect. Despite Mr. Till’s relatives’ attempts to spirit
him “out of town” to avoid retribution by the woman’s relatives and townspeople,
his cocky attitude “got in the way”, similar to the way that “young master
Trayvon’s” attitude got him killed. Despite being given numerous “chances” to
apologize for his behavior, he was defiant to the end. IF he had apologized for
his behavior, he would still be alive today.
It is interesting to note that
Emmett Till’s father was executed by the U S military for multiple rapes. Maybe
“the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” . .

    • John Smith

OJ Simpson had to learn that lesson the hard way after he went to prison. He was bragging about all the white women he had se_x with and lo and behold the white inmates staged a little riot on the yard to distract the guards and sent a stabber after him. It’s a good thing for OJ that he had every gay prisoner on the yard in love with him and giving him backrubs because they’re what saved his life. They literally surrounded him and put up such a ruckus the stabber couldn’t get through them to do his stabbing.

Well, this scared OJ so bad he bought color televisions for the whole prison, apologized to the white leaders, and started keeping his mouth shut. Last I read, he had made amends to the point where he was able to host a little super bowl party in his cell. Even some whites showed up.

It’s truly amazing what a little respect can accomplish.

      • Anglokraut

Cool story, bro; you have some primary sources for that story?

      • skara_brae

If this is the case then jail is a farce.

    • Sick of it

I figure the son of a rapist was a rapist himself. He’d probably seen his father do similar things at home before he went off to war.

  • Chris Granzow XI

You guys shouldn’t praise Putin because of Navalny…the two are polar opposites. In fact, Putin is trying to send Navalny to jail.

  • AngloCelt

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Orthodox Russia will be key to the survival of Western civilization in the coming years.

  • RisingReich

The world is truly upside down. A healthy attitude aimed at protecting the Country’s blood, culture, and people is explained as a ‘phobia’ – something to ‘work on’ something that needs to be ‘addressed’.

Bad is good, black is white, up is down, truth is racist. 2013 is 1984.

    • Lagerstrom

Blood, culture and people, what leftists seek to destroy.

  • Strider73

The article notes many of these illegals used to be “fellow citizens” of the USSR. Looks like Nemesis, the Greek goddess of divine retribution, is having a bit of fun. After World War II Stalin flooded the Baltic republics (Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia) with ethnic Russians in order to squelch any lingering nationalist sentiments. The ploy ultimately failed (those republics were the first to secede), but ethnic tensions there remain elevated to this day.

All that said, I do hope Mr. Navalny, or someone like him, wins the election. And I would like to know why there has not been a mayoral election in Moscow for 10 years (unless that is the standard term of office).

    • Spartacus

In 2003, Putin abolished elections for regional offices ( the mayorship of Moscow is considered as such) and instead all those officials were directly named by the Kremlin. Not sure if the current change is for all regions or just Moscow .

EDIT: And Navalny’s gonna lose to Putin’s guy.

  • IstvanIN

But nobody says Kinshasa in the Congo needs more diversity.

    • Lagerstrom

If Turkey enters the EU do you think there will be calls to make Istanbul more diverse?

      • IstvanIN

No, of course not, that would be Islamphobic.

  • The Final Solution

The Vikings were in N. America around 1,000 a.d. The inferior natives didn’t advance a single day in the 600 years before Columbus arrived.

  • Sick of it

Navalny is with the internationalist crowd 100%. He’s lying (i.e. typical progressive behavior).

  • It seems like the claws are out for Russia at the moment.

The stories of their supposed “backwardness” in all things “human rights” seem to be on the increase, whether it is to do with immigration, pussy-riot, or stories like that poor woman athlete who spoke her mind about the gay issues in Russian society and got hounded for it by a pack of baying liberal wolves.

After growing up in the mid 80s and being fed on a diet of American films depicting Russians as the sole bogey-men (before they switched to Arabs towards the early 90s), I would never have thought we would be cheering for the Russians – but from what I have seen of the media reports about them, they have witnessed what has gone on in Western Europe and do not desire to end up the same way.

Unfortunately for Russia, the ‘usual suspects’ are already up to their old tricks – like pushing a particular narrative and discourse in the schools to sever the beliefs of the parents from the children. I saw that the other year somewhere in the news, spun all positively to increase “harmony and understanding” etc. They know it only takes two generations of this and they can foist their agenda quite easily.

As others have said, it seems like moves are being made to shine a light upon Russia’s resistance to “the programme” – because any dissent has to be smashed by these people otherwise it provides a beacon of light to other lands and shows the world a different way that things can be arranged, which also means that they can be compared to the rot inflicting the rest of the world.

That they are also being stubborn towards certain global agendas at the moment (when it comes to Middle Eastern affairs) is no doubt even more reason for the “West” to focus on their affairs, apply pressure, make them out to be some sort of ‘fascist regime’ that has to be crushed and is ‘asking for it’.

That some Russians (who are complaining that only 5 pupils in a class of 26 are actually Russians) are being classed as “Xenophobic” beggars belief. But that is the western media for you. They certainly don’t seem to say the same about the Israelis being “xenophobic” about the Arabs, or the Blacks being “Xenophobic” to Whites in Africa.

    • I suspect that much of the animosity directed against Russia comes from the Sodomy Lobby. The Russians have a law against propagandizing buggery to minors.

    • Pelagian

As a Catholic, this puts a whole new spin on “Pray for the conversion of Russia”. It now seems to mean: the Russians are the only country that has not totally lost their minds, having been preserved from liberalism by communism. And now, if only they’d add to that common sense with some real religion, God would bless them and allow them to conquer.

  • Lagerstrom

Did someone actually say that and mean it? Please tell me no.

  • Sue

It’s the only way we’re going to get anywhere. Push ’em back, hard.

  • IstvanIN

A strong man, yes, but a patriot? I used to be a Putin fan but as time goes on I find him less than savory. Although standing up to Obumer makes me smile.

  • John Ulfsson

Good, that “xenophobia” could also be called “survival instinct” or “self preservation”.

    • Spartacus

      Or “common sense” .

  • Baronsteamtrunk

While there are many things about Russia and Putin that turn my stomach, their conservative traditional values, proud nationalism, and general fearlessness against many things PC is something very much to be admired. It seems like Russia is more concerned about Russians and Russias own national interests the our feckless leaders who are the complete opposite.

    • And that’s the beauty of separate countries and nations. That which we find stomach turning about Russia and Putin, Russians themselves may consider features rather than bugs.

      • Sick of it

I definitely advocate a separation of peoples into their respective nations. It works better. It’s biblical too.

  • trueLeftism rejects multiculturalism because diversity divides Labor. A divided Labor cannot stand against Capital.

Diversity is strength….for Capital. But it is weakness for Labor

    • Sick of it

Look into the people who have bankrolled leftist movements for centuries. The wealthy created the left. They use the left to destroy their enemies. England could not destroy France in a war.

      • the workers are the enemies of the wealthy.

The rich created a fakeleft to weaken the white majority and drop wages.

Diversity was promoted by the fakeleft as a tool of the rich so the rich could drop wages and weaken the unity of the workers.

Multiculturalism is a tool of the rich and their corporations. It is a weapon used by Capital against Labor.

        • Sick of it

I’m not big on terms like that generally, as Karl Marx wanted to get rid of the lot of us…

          • Unlike a lot of people, I’ve actually read the Communist Manifesto. What Marx and Engels were bothered about was the demise of the guild-craft system.

          • multiculturalism, mass immigration, american liberalism etc has very little to do with Marxism, Marx, socialism or communism.

            see my reply above…

          • Randall Ward

and you believe everything they wrote; one of the major legs of communism is deception.

          • Sick of it

That’s not what I got out of the Communist Manifesto…and certainly the Communist International had entirely different motives as did the Social Democrats in Germany (Founded by Marx). The 48ers weren’t fighting for the guild craft system.

          • multiculturalism, mass immigration, american liberalism etc has very little to do with Marxism, Marx, socialism or communism.

American liberalism is oriented around multiculturalism, which is intended to increase the supply of labor and drop wages and thereby increase corporate profits and make plutocrats richer.

Does that sound like marxism to you?

          • Sick of it

Again, corporate profits will tank once multiculturalism is complete, especially if they destroy the middle class. No one will be able to afford their products. Their companies will fall to pieces due to multiculturalism. This is a fight for absolute power. The Rothschilds had over three billion dollars in assets in 1875. They don’t need money.

    • Randall Ward

You are correct, but their are other reasons for the diversity push. Western White people are the target, no matter the class level.

  • Sick of it

“As acting Deputy Chief of the Moscow branch of Yabloko, Navalny stated that the party supported the nationalist 2006 Russian March
but that Yabloko condemned “any ethnic or racial hatred and any
xenophobia” and called on police to oppose “any Fascist, Nazi,
    xenophobic manifestations”.

Sounds exactly like the liberals over here.

“The party (Yabloko) stands for the greater freedom and civil liberties in Russia, for greater integration with the West, better relations with the United States and membership in the European Union.”

Did you catch the part about wanting to join the European Union? That’s not very nationalistic.

“was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World”

I’m assuming you’ve read Time magazine in the last 50 years.
He’s a member of Yale’s World Fellows program (just look at the website for yourself).

This was from a quick glance at Wikipedia. I’d done some digging a while back and found a lot more.

  • Randall Ward

    The game is
given away with the title; Xenophobia, which means an unreasonable fear or hatred of that which is foreign.
Is it unreasonable to want to live in peace with your own kind?
Do you liberals invite the worst in your town or city to come spend Sunday afternoon at your home?
The title should have been “Russians decide to live in peace”

  • gemjunior

If that were true I would be running out to dance in the streets. A fat rinse out is a fantasy around here, it’s a stretch even to see a white student’s group form without being disbanded – forced to by constant attacks made on it by (you guessed it!) a majority of the group’s OWN people. That’s never been seen before in history, I’m sure. In the animal kingdom or among any of the other races/sub-species of humans. Well, from your lips to God’s ears. I am praying for the same.

  • emiledurk16

I would think that compared to the immigration problem in the U.S., the Russians don’t have it so bad.
Are their illegal immigrants white? Peoples from the former Soviet republics and the North Caucasus would be, although I’m wading into a subject of which I’m not familiar.
The article says the intruders don’t speak or read Russian, but is not the Slavic tongue similar in its variants.
I don’t know if their cities or malls have the fauna of their American counterparts, but something tells me I’d take their immigration problems over that of my country’s “any ole day of the week.”

    • Spartacus

Immigrants from the Northern Caucasus are mostly White, but their muslims. They’d show more solidarity with the average somali than with the average Russian…

And those are the LEGAL immigrants, the illegal ones are mostly mongrels from central Asia.

      • emiledurk16

That’s right, Spartacus… that you mention it, the Boston marathon bombers were from that part of the world, recipients of food stamps and EBT cards, and Muslim.

  • Zaporizhian Sich

And that was why Ukrainian guerillas slain Russians along with their Jewish oppressors during the Second World War.

  • Pelagian

Russia may have out-fenced Kerry on this Syria thing. Here is one suggestion of how it went:
Kerry: We won’t attack…if you do this impossible thing. Syria: Oh? We’ll do it.
    Russia: They’ll do it.
    UN: They’ll do it.
    Kerry: Sh#t!
