Police Investigate Possible Racially Motivated Beating
Charles Benson, Today's TMJ (Milwaukee), July 16, 2013
A Wauwatosa man claims he was beaten because George Zimmerman was found not guilty. Milwaukee Police are trying to determine if the assault was racially motivated.
The 34-year old has a broken hand and suffered a concussion in the assault. {snip}
“I was just being pummeled from every direction I could imagine, ” said Chris, who asked not to use his last name.
Chris was walking to the bus stop Sunday evening after visiting a friend when he says about a dozen African-American teens attacked him near 25th and Cherry Streets.
“At some point during the assault I blacked out for about a minute,” Chris explains.
Chris says he didn’t get a good look at his attackers because he was being punched and kicked in the face but he remembers what one of them said.
“I know what the guy said: ‘this is for Trayvon Martin’ because he was right in my face and after he said it he punched me right in the mouth,” said Chris.
Neighbor T.J. Jackson says he could see and hear what was happening a couple of blocks away.
“They knew what they were doing,” said T.J. Jackson. “They didn’t want to rob him or anything like that, they just wanted to beat him up and make a statement and it wasn’t a good statement.”
Chris says the beating stopped when a Good Samaritan scared the teens away.
