Hollywood Hit by Roaming Band of Robbers, Police Say

Joel Rubin et al., Los Angeles Times, July 17, 2013

At least 14 people were taken into custody Tuesday night and many more remained at large after marauding bands of young people conducted a string of robberies, assaults and acts of vandalism along Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles police said late Tuesday.

The crimes did not appear to be related to the protests over the George Zimmerman acquittal in the slaying of Trayvon Martin.

Incident commander Dennis Kato said police were inundated with phone calls beginning about 9 p.m., reporting that packs of young people were roaming along Hollywood and attacking people. {snip}

The robbers knocked down tourists and grabbed their phones, Kato said. In at least one incident, they hauled off a cash register from a business. {snip}

As many as 40 robbers were believed to be involved in the attacks. Kato said the robbers splintered into smaller groups of 10 to 15 people and spread through the area, regrouping at times.

{snip} Officers swarmed the Hollywood area as helicopters for both police and news media circled.

More than 110 officers were brought in from other LAPD divisions to track down the robbers, Kato said, pitting police against the attackers in a massive cat-and-mouse game around Hollywood. {snip}

At that intersection [of Wilton Place and Monroe Street], two young black men were detained in handcuffs before being released with the terse explanation that they had mistakenly been stopped because they matched the general description of the robbers. {snip}

    Wow. At least they said two of ’em were black at the end…

    • Creepy as a cracker!

      But if you read further, the two were released because they were racially profiled.

      • The__Bobster

        Yes, exactly. It was Joel’s little dose of poison that he had to sprinkle in there.

    ________

    Actually, that could be true. Spoonies were flash mobbing long before the Trayvon decision. It just gives them a coonvenient excuse.

    • sbuffalonative

      I agree.

      Most street blacks are totally out of touch with any current event that doesn’t involve a rapper droppin’ a new album.

    >>>… Two young black men were detained in handcuffs before being released with the terse explanation that they had mistakenly been stopped because they matched the general description of the robbers.

    That is this article’s only mention of race!? And it’s a comical attempt to propagandize about the supposed evils of profiling.

    Nuts!

    • Creepy as a cracker!

      Nothing but pure propaganda by the author of the article!

    • sbuffalonative

      Marauding, roaming bands, wilding, flash mob, youths = blacks.

      Racial stereotypes euphemisms.

    Yup – and I’m wearing an “I’m Trayvon Martin” sweatshirt as I type this out.

    Gee, only one tiny hint that all the robbers were ebony “youffs.” I suppose those two who were stopped will claim “racial profiling” and take legal action against the police department. And Eric Holder says we don’t need “Stand Your Ground” laws?! When the police are nowhere to be found, what are we supposed to stop attackers with? Our good looks and charming personalities?

    • LIBERTYSINCURSION

      I hate to say it Oldcorporal, but I believe you’re missing their point old friend. You see, YOU are not supposed to stop your attacker, YOU are supposed to be the victim, period. Why else would they be so eager to take our guns which they know are only going to be used for self defense. Yet on the bloody streets of Chicago they refuse to prosecute most of the black gangsters for illegal gun possession when they’re found during the stop and frisk searches. Why would they do that, because I think people like us are simply supposed to be the designated victims.

  • LIBERTYSINCURSION

    Nothing to see here folks nothing at all. What? Related to the Trayvon Martin “Protest”, of course not, what a ridiculous assumption. < Says every Liberal knuckle head in the media. Believe me guys, they are going to be trying to hide every and anything that is done in the name of St. Skittles. And if anyone notices that "hey, the same people protesting are now tearing the city up" they will be painted as bloody racist for daring to notice such a racist reality. I suspect that this is probably just the beginning of these so called "marauding bands of young people" and I'm quite positive they'll have nothing to do with Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman or eruptions of spontaneous blackness across the country.

    Why the hell do people keep visiting these non-white cesspools ? What do they think’s gonna happen when you’re surrounded by obamasons ?

    • LIBERTYSINCURSION

      “What do they think’s gonna happen when you’re surrounded by obamasons ?” Well, if they listen only to the Liberal media I’m sure they figured they would all sit around and debate the finer points of physics and the validity of the string theory.

    One report indicated that these youths, totaling about 50 in number, got to Hollywood from the hood on the Los Angeles Metro, one of the local light rail subway systems. That blacks use public transit, especially light rail, to extend the range of their criminal activities is a well understood, but usually camouflaged, argument against extending public transit. As a bicyclist who does not own a car, this affects me. I would like to know how it was that the Los Angeles Metro transported fifty or so “youths” into Hollywood without alerting police. Profiling be damned. .

  • bigone4u

    “a massive cat and mouse game ..” says our intrepid reporter. I can think of another animal besides a mouse to describe the robbers, but if I said which one my comment would be deleted.

  • negrolocaust

    10 to 15 “people”? I beg to differ.

  • The story is the same regardless of the city: Philadelphia, Chicago, Hollywood, Baltimore, etc.

    Go where the tourists go, rob the tourists. They won’t come to court. They know this, which is why they are doing this. Little chance of punishment other than for possession of a stolen phone. “I founds da sail foam”.

    • Stentorian_Commentator

      Could they at least do us the favor of taking down movie and TV executives? They might score some good jewelry.

    • willbest

      This is what happens when you do away with criminal overlords. In Jamaica if a petty crook robbed a tourist, he is taken care of internally. That sort of thing is reserved for residents only because the guys at the top are smart enough to not scare away the actual source of the money.

    Black Logic: It is stupid for white people to think that young black men commit more crime, and to protest that wrong conclusion we young black men will now go out and commit crime.

    • RebelliousTreecko

      “Black Logic: It is stupid for White People to think that young black men commit an over-proportionate amount of crime relative to their population size,”

      Fixed. :3

    Well, if it’s not connected to the Trayvon Martin protests, then what’s news about it? After all, “marauding bands of young people conduct[ing] a string of robberies, assaults and acts of vandalism” is just a normal summer evening in American cities these days.

  • IstvanIN

    I wish they would go up to where the “stars” live.

  • All of SoCal is Terra Incognita and has been for some time.

    When I returned from Australia in 1997 for Christmas, I brought with me a World War One military rangefinder I had bought there – a 1918 Barr & Stroud. Airport security in Sydney were all ex-military, knew right what it was, and let me carry it on. The United boarding stewardess had it ride up front with the pilots for the trans-Pacific flight. I didn’t mind that; I just didn’t want them checking it and breaking the optics.

    I received it on deplaning at LAX, took it through customs, and the airport security freaked out ten different ways from Tuesday, because it is a cylinder about 5″ in diameter and 40 inches long, with two handles that fold down. None of them could speak any English, and one finally got a shift manager who did. I showed the manager how it worked by taking a range on a taxiing jet. When the two images merge and focus, the range on the dial is the true one. I carried it on after he decided it wasn’t some sort of bazooka.

    THAT is how bad the language situation in the LA area was… over 15 years ago.

      Blade Runner.

  • Yes, and guys like Trayvon are also why black neighborhoods are so unsafe for the locals. It isn’t Celtic/German/Amerind guys with Japanese wives like me who get “bored” and drive on in to cause trouble.

  • Formerly_Known_as_Whiteplight

    It’s so sad. I can remember in the early 60s, how nice it was down there when we went down for summer vacations. The transition over such an actually short period of time ought to scare the scales off the slimy fish in Washington.
