Pew: For Every 10 Americans, Only 3 Trust the Government

CBS DC, March 11, 2013

The Pew Research Center in Washington, D.C. has found that fewer Americans than ever trust the decisions made by the government.

Data collected from a survey taken in January of this year indicates that all demographics and partisan groups experienced an increasing lack of faith in government leadership, according to a release posted on the Pew Research website late last week.

“However, there are disparities,” the official summary noted. “[M]ore than twice as many Hispanics as whites (44 percent vs. 20 percent) trust the federal government, and more blacks (38 percent) than whites trust the government.”

Researchers additionally observed that younger Americans trust the government more than their older counterparts, and that more liberals believe in the administration of President Barack Obama than either independents or Republicans.

Conversely, distrust of federal government is presently at 73 percent. Earlier on in the Obama administration, it reportedly hit a record high of 80 percent, according to a graph constructed and presented by researchers at Pew. {snip}

According to Pew, almost 60 percent of people in the United States had confidence in the federal government before President Bill Clinton left office. When Bush left, national trust was down to about 25 percent of the nation’s people.

Give it a few more months and there may be 0. Well, less than half of the 1 in 10, or to be clear, 2 or 3% of the 100% total, if you get my drift.

Seems like AmRen doesn’t allow discussion about that, but I get your drift.

3 out of 10? It’s that high? They must have been in a blue state.

    • The__Bobster

Some people are afraid to tell the truth over the phone, especially about a government they don’t trust.

    • StillModerated

I couldn’t help but notice that under Obongo that trust level fell to 20% — a mere 1 out of 5.

  • “Trust the Government”

    That’s an uncalculated phrase.

I trust the “government” in terms of the Army Corps of Engineers when they say the Mississippi River level at St. Louis is 24.8 feet this afternoon, or the quasi-government in terms of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis when they claim that BOGUMBNS (“M0,” that is to say, real physical money supply) was $2,845 billion in February 2013. I don’t trust the “government” in terms of the Bureau of Labor Statistics when they claim “unemployment” is only 7.7%, or their even more laughable inflation stats.
To me, it’s caveat emptor, on a case by case basis.

Hmmm it seems everything was on the up and up until mysteriously in 1965 there began a free-fall of trust in gov’t and probably also in overall happiness, social cohesion, outlook, etc. Strange…

The reality is that the United States government has become the enemy of freedom, real Americans, and the U.S. Constitution. It is led by an illegal alien African Muslim from Black Africa, and an assortment of self-serving ‘yes-men’ and ‘yes-women’. The Whites in Congress are largely self-serving idiots and traitors to our race. The affirmative Blacks in Congress have very low intelligence, which becomes obvious each time one of them utters something. They are their solely due to gerrymandering and affirmative action.

Life in civilization has taken on the aura of a badly written b-grade movie, where all of the citizens and denizens go through the daily machinations of pretending that Blacks and Browns are the equals of Whites.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that I think that Blacks and Browns should be mistreated or enslaved, but it does mean that I believe they have absolutely no place in North America or Europe. Blacks belong in Africa, and Browns belong in Central America, Latin America, and/or Muslims countries, according to their various ethnicities.

Of course, that will never happen, so the accelerating slide into depravity and inanity will continue at breakaway speed until equilibrium with the third-world is realized.

Whites who support civil rights, non-White immigration, and vote for Black and Brown causes are complete idiots. There is no delicate way to say it.
I worked with two very nice young ladies from a southern state. Both were highly educated, beautiful, and seemed very conservative on the surface. We worked in a small White-collar company with about 200 employees; all White. They both proudly announced that they voted for Obama in 2008. Everyone was stunned. Now, they are both complaining about the recent tax increases. Idiots!

  • • I was watching the news reports on the black teen mayhem at Castleton Mall in Indianapolis. A black minister made a plea for the community to provide for these kids to keep them off the streets. My thought was, “Do black people really need to be ‘kept’ like children?”

    • We need free stuff from government.
    — or —
    We need freedom from government.

    • black minister made a plea for the community to provide for these kids to keep them off the streets
Black ministers have churches, or most of them do, anyway. (Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are two notable exceptions). Why can’t their churches run these programs to keep their “chillunz” and “yoofs” off the streets?

  • The__Bobster

Okay, who out there has ever had a pleasant experience dealing with da gubmint?

Now look at your typical AA gubmint worker. Why would any sane White person trust da gubmint?

    • Hirschibold

You mean like Shaniqua who works at the VA, and Laronda who works at the DMV, and Latricia who works for the TSA?

      • MekongDelta69

I wish you ‘insensitive’ to the ‘special needs’ of blacks, would stop ‘offending’ these people.

At least have the decency to spell their names correctly.
It’s Sha’niqua, La’Ronda and La’Tricia. You forgot the obligatory (and totally meaningless) apostrophe.

It’s hard enough posting on here, but puh-leeze; I don’t want to have to become the spelling/grammar Nazi too. My life is hard enough.

[And don’t anybody dare ‘axe’ me if I’m being serious!]

I like what Colin Quinn said a few years back. Faux Swahili First name followed by president’s last name equals a felony conviction at some point. I have a feeling, for instance, that if I use Google images to search for “Demarcus Washington” or “Rashad Jefferson” that I am either going to see someone in an orange county jumpsuit or in a basketball jersey.

          • Non Humans

Odds are pretty good that you will find both… The latter, then the former.

    • JohnEngelman

Consider an observation furtively voiced by many who interact with civil servants: that government is riddled with people who have been promoted to their level of incompetence because of pressure to have a staff with the correct sex and ethnicity in the correct proportions and positions. Are these just anecdotes? Or should we be worrying about the effects of affirmative action on the quality of government services? (77) It would be helpful to know the answers, but we will not so long as the taboo against talking about group difference prevails.

      – Charles Murray, from “The Inequality Taboo”

  • Hirschibold

Arguing about levels of trust among African-American regarding the government is as pointless as arguing about the levels of trust domesticated pets feel for their owners. When one is wholly dependent for their sustenance on a system, their feelings toward that system are irrelevant.

  • It’s a tough calls as to which is more dishonest, the govt. or the MSM, but since one works for the other, it makes no difference.

  • StillModerated

I think it must be racism. Whites simply don’t trust Obomber’s posse.

  • Jss

I’m actually surprised diversity doesn’t trust the government more. Blacks would literally die out in North America with out the government to take care of them. I think the winter and Hispanics would do them in without sympathetic Whites in charge to make sure they have good lives and breed like rabbits.

But in any case the government is so pro black and Hispanic that I would have that their trust would have been even higher. Could you imagine if the government talked about Whites the way they did blacks and Hispanics? Whites at 20 percent is still sorta high I think but you do have flamboyant gays, lesbians, Engelman, university staff and students, basically the 20 percent who voted for Obama I guess.

According to Pew, almost 60 percent of people in the United States had confidence in the federal government before President Bill Clinton left office. When Bush left, national trust was down to about 25 percent of the nation’s people.

    – CBS DC, March 11, 2013

President Bush wrecked the economy and started two expensive wars he could not win, while cutting taxes. This turned the Clinton surplus into a growing deficit.

When we needed a second Franklin Roosevelt we got in 2008 our first affirmative action president.

In 1964 most Americans saw the government as the organization which under the leadership of the Democratic Party ended the Great Depression, won the Second World War, and was managing an economy in which most Americans got yearly pay raises that beat inflation.

The tripling of the crime rate from 1960 to 1980 and five years of black ghetto rioting from 1964 to 1968 caused white blue collar workers to lose trust in the economy, and to start voting Republican.

The War in Vietnam and the Watergate Scandal caused liberals to lose trust in the government.

In addition to Shrubya’s obtuse stupidity, the US emerged from that period with a fiscally-irresponsible congress dominated by lunatics likes then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

    • Veritas_lux_mea

Clinton was NOT a good president. He was only slightly less terrible than presidents before and after him, which makes him look good by comparison. There was no surplus during Clinton’s presidency. Our debt was $1 trillion higher when he left office than when he entered. Only our debt to GDP ratio went down slightly.

Obama is by far the least fiscally responsible president we’ve ever had. Since you voted for him, you really shouldn’t be complaining about the deficits racked up by other presidents.

  • tickyul

I dislike and distrust Big Brother…. just about as much as I dislike and distrust Urban Americans…WOW, that is a LOT of dislike and distrust.

  • Michael_C_Scott

By a totally amazing coincidence, the US is 70% white.

  • Zackers

You don’t always make a lot of sense, John Engelman. You, apparently, have trusted the government, and everyone else. Many of your ideas are from some kind of ‘inverted’ reality, where president Carter was a genius with the economy and Reagan wrecked the economy, where everything that is really true is held up to be a lie and where all values that are really wholesome are held up to ridicule and thought to be bad, where each new third world nation springing up is held to be morally superior to Western nations who are only holding them back, who’s problems are indeed seen as caused by the backward West. A world where the USA is a colonial, imperial power, and uniquely evil, instead of a colony busting, anti-colonial force, an exceptional nation in the world. Your post today, however, was outstanding. That’s my opinion.

  • Room101

We do have the right to blame the Founders for bringing dirty stupid African those slaves over here and then trying to cobble them into an advanced society using government coercion.
Of course it’s coming apart at the seams, just as it’s supposed to.

  • Sloppo

In other news, 30% of Americans have been officially declared brain-dead.

  • Felix_M

As high as 3, is it?

  • Think this reflects the direct result of years of secrecy, lies, and foolish explainations or excuses. Trust is not a given, the benefit of the doubt is a given. Trust must be earned and maintained.

  • Alexandra

I stopped trusting the government around 2003 or so, right around the time I found out about Camp FEMA.

As the Jesuit maxim goes, “white is black and black is white.”

  • PesachPatriot

This survey must have been conducted in very blue states….in some places you’d be lucky to find 1 in 10 americans who trust the government….I’d be inclined to trust them a bit more when they start adhering to some silly outdated document written by mr. washington, mr. franklin and mr. jefferson.

  • I do not trust our government. I would love to see the faces of the people who destroyed our country. I’ll call them in part JEMS.

  • One of the many facts that are available to find out is that most of the people who support the federal government are those who receive welfare, entitlements, benefits, pensions, so forth. People who rely upon the government, a government that essentially steals money from those of us who actually work and receive no welfare of any form and our money is stolen via income taxes to pay for these subsidies and programs. So yeah, it doesn’t surprise me at all that blacks, Hispanics whether illegal or not, many women and others who are typically not white men/women who work and have some education at least, trust the government. And they’re all fools for supporting and believing in it too.
