Press Release: Four Experts To Explain Findings At News Conference

Washington, D.C.—A Report by Homeland Security released on August 31, 2007, grossly underestimates the number of illegal foreigners living in the U.S., according to a new study to be released by two educational foundations on October 3.

Copies of the new report, “The Illegal Population Explosion: A Realistic Appraisal of its Actual Size, Implications for the Future, and Consequences for Public Policy Decisions and Citizen Activism,” will be released at a News Conference at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 10/3/07, in the Lisagor Room of the National Press Club (529 14th St., N.W., Washington, D.C.).

The News Conference will be preceded by a light lunch at 12 noon.

Four experts who contributed to the study will summarize their findings that illegal aliens in the U.S. total about 20 million or more people—approximately double the number estimated by Homeland Security’s Office of Immigration Studies new report. The new study was commissioned by Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) and The Social Contract journal.

Those present at the 1 p.m. News Conference on Wednesday, October 3, will be:

—James Walsh, J.D., former Associate General Counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)

—Philip Romero, Ph.D., professor of Business Administration at the University of Oregon who previously was Economic Advisor to former California Governor Pete Wilson

—Diana Hull, Ph.D., behavioral scientist and President of Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS)

—Fred Elbel, computer specialist from Colorado who is an expert in methodologies and data analysis

—Wayne Lutton, Ph.D., editor of The Social Contract, who will serve as moderator

The study was funded by Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) and The Social Contract journal. CAPS, founded in 1986, was originally a splinter group of ZPG (Zero Population Growth). CAPS formulates and advances policies designed to stabilize the population of California at a level to preserve a good quality of life in that state. Since nearly all of California’s runaway population growth comes from immigration, CAPS sponsors public awareness campaigns and works with lawmakers to promote responsible policies.
