Donald Trump Is Thanked by Woman Whose Son Was Killed by Illegal Immigrant

In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on so-called sanctuary cities, Laura Wilkerson of Pearland, Tex., read from the autopsy report of her son, Josh.

An immigrant who had been brought to the United States illegally as a 10-year-old was convicted of tying up her son and torturing him before beating him to death, because he accused Josh of “kicking his dog,” Ms. Wilkerson said.

“Thank you to Mr. Trump for getting a message out in two minutes that countless families like our own have been trying to get out for years,” Ms. Wilkerson said. “It feels good to be heard.”

The hearing was called after Kathryn Steinle was fatally shot on a pier in San Francisco by a Mexican immigrant with a record of multiple felonies and deportations who had been released by the police. Mr. Trump drew national attention to the killing by saying that it confirmed his comments that Mexico was sending criminals to the United States. {snip}
