Michelle Obama ‘Knocked Back’ by Race Perceptions

Michael Langan, Yahoo! News, May 12, 2015

Michelle Obama says she had to fight misperceptions due to her African-American race during the 2008 White House campaign that saw her husband become the first black president of the United States.

The first lady, who grew up in humble circumstances in Chicago and became a successful corporate lawyer, has rarely discussed race during her husband’s two terms in office.

{snip}

“As potentially the first African-American first lady, I was also the focus of another set of questions and speculations, conversations sometimes rooted in the fears and misperceptions of others,” Obama said Saturday.

“Was I too loud or too angry or too emasculating? Or was I too soft, too much of a mom, not enough of a career woman?” she asked in a frank commencement address at historically black Tuskegee University in Alabama.

For the first magazine cover featuring Obama in 2008, The New Yorker parodied her as a radical and a terrorist.

“It was a cartoon drawing of me with a huge afro and a machine gun,” she recalled.

“Now, yeah, it was satire, but if I’m really being honest, it knocked me back a bit. It made me wonder just how are people seeing me.”

{snip}

In an almost half-hour address, she also recalled other racially insensitive comments, including when Fox News television said she was her “husband’s crony of color” and “Obama’s baby mama”–the latter US slang for an unwed mother.

{snip}

Frustration, “can feel isolating. It can make you feel like your life somehow doesn’t matter. And as we’ve seen over the past few years, those feelings are real,” the first lady added.

“They’re rooted in decades of structural challenges that have made too many folks feel frustrated and invisible, and those feelings are playing out in communities like Baltimore and Ferguson and so many others across this country.”

But while being a minority in the United States can be tough, she said, it was no reason to lose hope.

Oh boo ******* hoo, you ‘perpetually oppressed’ ungrateful, whiny, phony victim.

    • With the best personal security in the world, 24/7 for life, while the rest of us get the “Knockout Game”.

    • Yancy Derringer

Michelle Obama did not become a successful corporate lawyer. She began complaining immediately at Sidley Austin, going over her boss’s head to Human Resources to bitch about the “boring” assignments she was given. Same kind of assignments all new hires got. Then Jesse Jackson got her the do-nothing City of Chicago job. She failed the bar exam on her first try, by the way.

      • John Smith

A do-nothing assignment was likely beyond her abilities anyway and, if a company was smart, they wouldn’t give her anything important.

        • Rurik

When she vacated the position to move to Washington, it was abolished. What does that imply?

      • Bob Wallace

Have not she and her husband both been disbarred?

      • Earl P. Holt III

I have read that there was fraud involved in the purchase of the Obama Family Home in Chicago (5046 South Greenwood,) and that it necessitated Michelle “Surrendering” her Law License to the Illinois Bar to avoid being Disbarred or prosecuted. Do you know anything about it?

      • Alexandra1973

        Wasn’t she disbarred?

  • Her latest grand pronouncement when her husband was in New York bouncing from fundraiser to fundraiser was that there’s a “museum gap,” that is, a racial gap in museum attendance. As it turns out, a few years ago, when she was back in Chicago giving a speech for gun control, she spouted the same line, noting that blacks in Chicago are a few EL stops away from museums but never go. As if we’re to think that museums have “no blacks allowed” signs, museums are secret klaverns, and museum curators are grand wizards.

One of the more practical and supposedly plausible excuses that Obama sycophants floated in the days after was that museums charge admissions fees, and this has a disparate impact on blacks. Well, any St. Louisan who is also racially aware can easily blow that excuse to outer space. Because St. Louis’s zoo, history museum, science center and art museum are not only all free to get into, but they’re all in a huge urban public park that is served by a lot of public transit. But, if you don’t count school field trips, you rarely see blacks in anything but the zoo.

    • superlloyd

      Blacks belong in the zoo.

      • As permanent residents rather than visitors.

        • Cuddles

          Just visiting the relatives.

      • John Smith

        As lion chow.

        • Earl P. Holt III

Have you ever seen films of lions lolling around on the Serengeti Plains and — every once in awhile — they jump up and spin around and lick their “hind ends” vigorously? Do you know why they do that?

They are trying to get rid of the taste of nigros…!

      • David Ashton

This sentiment is more likely to gain sympathy for the “First Lady” than refute her claim. However, “invisibility” is not exactly her problem.

      • The Worlds Scapegoat

Blacks belong in zoos in Africa, not America or Europe.

It is extremely irresponsible to bring groups of feral teenagers into art museums. You can’t assume that they will not damage the works of art, deliberately and maliciously. You can assume that they will be bored out of their little minds and will gain nothing from the outing. It goes without saying that they will be loud and disruptive to the other people who actually paid to see the artworks.

Better to bring feral teenagers to the zoo. They will be able to walk around without doing any damage. They will, of course, taunt the animals; being animals themselves. They may find that the cages are there to -discourage- the animals from killing the people who are taunting them, but they don’t always prevent this from happening. Such as when a tiger gets a tasty snack from a idiot who exposes his naked backside to a large cat who has never been known to be able to leap up 25 feet from the its ‘natural setting’ enclosure. Actually the beast never had incentive to make such a leap, before being mooned. So it goes.

Another reason to bring feral teenagers to the zoo is to subtly remind them that if they commit beastly acts in public places, they too will be placed in cages for the rest of their lives. People will come to visit them on rare Sundays, then the people will go home. They will be staying in their cages.

      • Petronius

Once at the Smithsonian zoo a pickaninny lit a firecracker and tossed it into the wide, gaping mouth of an adult hippo.

The pickaninny and his buds got a big laugh out of that. Typical.

      • buster

The little jigges can massssturbate to amuse the monkeys. Fair turn around!

      • carriewhite64

Actually, black teenagers do a lot of damage at zoos. I have a friend who is director of several zoos, and she says they almost always try to taunt, disturb, and harm the animals. Every zookeeper knows to keep constant and close watch when black groups or field trips are on site.

One gorilla in St. Louis — named “Phil the Gorill” (R.I.P.) — used to throw his excrement at them, which I think was about as apropos as any gesture could be…

          • carriewhite64

I hope he hit them every time.

          • Earl P. Holt III

Even Nolan Ryan didn’t do that, but Phil got in some good shots…

The local negroes can’t even make it to their Underground Railroad museum. I almost went there to see their lynching exhibit, as a pleasure trip.

    • pennawhytmn

Ironically I just read a story somewhere about a predominately Black class of elementary school kids made the school’s first ever trip to a particular museum. It was also the last. The school was permanently banned from ever returning. A few of the little future geniuses couldn’t behave themselves. I believe spit was involved.

      • Alexandra1973

I bet it wasn’t just spit.

        • TrueNorthFree

LOL the comments on this thread are cracking me up

The nigros don’t go to “science centers,” either: They’re too busy taking tours of Islamic Mosques…

  • superlloyd

The Black privilege of whining about nothing important at all by pampered idiots is ubiquitous.

  • No Mo

Any additional scrutiny she faced is due to her entitlement and victim mentality rather than her race.

  • Luca D.

Professional victim whiner. She was making $300k a year, her husband became President of the US twice and she still feels oppressed.

  • phorning

They will no doubt follow the Clinton model and cash in after leaving the White House. I think the real source of her victim mentality is that deep down she knows she has been unqualified for every job she has ever held and only gotten where she is because of the color of her skin.

  • Easyrhino

I doubt Obama had to ever watch her back to keep from being a knockout game victim.

  • pea_brain_2012

I wish would keep her big pie hole shut unless she has something constructive and meaningful to say. Not the constant ‘blacks be oppressed’ nonsense.

    • I like it when she comes off as even dumber than her husband.

I think I have insult/guilt fatigue. I can barely get agitated, let alone angry when I hear or read yet another screed of anti-white, I-hate-America BS burbling from the mouth of some despicable, whining left-tard. Why, oh why do they continue to reside in a society they clearly hate? Dear Lord, make them to go away.

  • Caucasoid88

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and Negro whine.

  • What an ingrate.
She’s part of the %.01 and cannot possibly feel any gratitude.
    Words escape me.

    • Cuddles

The lack of gratitude and inflated ego & pride make her a horrible excuse of a human being.

    • Jack Richards

Yeah, but there’s one thing she hasn’t got and will never get but would sell both her kidneys for: a white skin.

      • I’m a convicted felon on the Terrorist Watch list who makes about $800 a month welding and doing odd jobs, and I wouldn’t trade places with her. I spent the morning making artificial shrimp lures with nylon aquarium tubing for the bodies and eyestalks, antennae and legs out of nylon monofilament. I was quite content. Maybe someday I’ll go back to work in the microelectronics industry. Probably not, but the point is that I just don’t care. Wealthy, successful blacks absolutely hate that attitude. Nothing will ever be enough for them because they can’t be white. Asians are happy being what they are. Native Americans who aren’t drunk are happy being what they are (alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, which makes the already-unhappy addicts even less happy).

Nobody else on earth has this towering inferiority complex and the corresponding.pathological resentment of everyone else that blacks actively cultivate. When Arabs or Koreans open stores in black neighborhoods, the Bongonians claim they are being exploited. When nobody opens stores in black-blighted areas, they claim they are being “underserved”.

Many of us have become completely sick of hearing their nonsense. It’s worse than “nonsense”, but the first word that came to mind wouldn’t make it past the moderator. I don’t know what it’s like to be black, but far more importantly, I don’t care. I don’t know what it’s like to be rich, politically powerful and have the best security protection in the world, either and I don’t care. I don’t need those things, and if I had them, I wouldn’t gripe about awful the rest of life is. Life isn’t bad; mine is quite wonderful, though I miss shooting antique military rifles.

It must be really aggravating for blacks to know that we don’t need them. I don’t even need to be needed. Perhaps some of what I read about Buddhism soaked in, but it is a very liberating realization. Blacks lack the introspection for Buddhism, though. Michelle is saying “All these people around me are some (unpleasant) X.” To a relatively enlightened individual, it wouldn’t matter what they really are, or what one’s perceptions of them might be.

        • Jack Richards

They have a huge inferiority complex because, as a race, they’ve never achieved anything. The Arabs built the pyramids and invented writing; the south Asians built huge and complex societies along the Indus and Ganges rivers; the East Asians built Ankor Wat and the Great Wall of China and a very sophisticated civilisation; the Indians (that is “gente in dios”) of the Americas built extensive empires and civilisations from southern Chile to Canada; the Europeans, particularly the Anglo-Celts, built the modern world, invented all the science, wrote all the books and plays and shaped nature to their benefit. The Jews have contributed brilliance in every field of endeavour far beyond their actual numbers. Jews have won 123 Nobel Prizes since 1901 and about 100 of those have been in sciences and medicine. Blacks, and there are over 1 billion of them, have won 16 and none of them have been for science – not one. And of those B Hussein Obama won one for getting elected while black.
All of black Africa is a dysfunctional shit-hole and has been since the Europeans left 50+ years ago. The only infrastructure was built by whites. They’re sitting on a whole continent that has endless natural resources and yet they do nothing other than sit in the dust whining and blaming their poverty on colonialism or whites generally. Australia with about 23 million whites, a quarter of the land area that’s mostly desert anyway, has a GDP greater than all of black Africa combined. New Zealand, a country with next to no natural resources, and 4 million whites has a GDP that exceeds every black African country except Nigeria with its 90 million blacks and huge oil reserves that accounts for nearly all its income.
Doesn’t it say something when 27 million whites living on islands in the South Pacific can build cars, trucks, trains, aircraft, roads, dams, ships, schools, hospitals, universities, farms that grow everything and can feed five times their numbers, giant mines and yet have hardly a drop of oil compared to Africa where none of those things happen? Australia and New Zealand have also produced more Nobel Prize winners than all the blacks of the world – including Ernest Rutherford (NZ) whose work made nuclear energy possible and Howard Florey (Aus) who invented penicillin. It’s also a fact that Australia and New Zealand have won more Olympic Medals than all of Africa combined.
The simple truth is that Africans are genetically inferior to whites or anyone else. Of course, there are some Afros who are clever as the distribution follows the “bell curve”, but the fact is that 70% of Afros have a level of intelligence that’s regarded as “retarded” i.e. an IQ of 80 or less compared to all other races. It’s got nothing to do with racism, discrimination or anything else. It wouldn’t matter if blacks had the best teachers in history on a 1:1 basis for 15 years, most of them would still be stupid, impulsive, lazy, dishonest and violent.
As Rudyard Kipling said more than a century ago, they are “The white man’s burden”.

        • Jack Richards

“It must be really aggravating for blacks to know that we don’t need them.”
Every country that has them would be far better off without any blacks. Wherever blacks are, or wherever they go, social and economic collapse is sure to follow.

  • AmericanCitizen

I may be echoing other posters here, but this woman is a classless disgrace to America.

    • John Smith

Perfect example of an American (and I use the term loosely) negro.

    • Jack Richards

She’s got plenty of class, just like a rat with gold teeth.

The perpetual bellyaching of these people is appalling. I only realized their true selves when I saw how they reacted during the O.J. Simpson verdict. Ever since that day I can’t stand to look at their faces without disdain.

  • LHathaway

The left machine tells us we must treat blacks differently. When we do, we’re punished for being racist. In the end, some hapless white proclaims, “I have plenty of black friends”, and then is denounced as being a racist” His statement, showing favoritism to blacks, is racist against whites. But reality does not matter in post-racial America. Even blatant out-in-the-open racism against whites will be proclaimed in actuality just one more thing that disadvantages and is racist against blacks.

    • Jack Richards

Everything is racist against blacks. Even their own genes and DNA.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

“The road ahead is not going to be easy,” Obama said, “It never is, especially for folks like you and me.”

    OH, Poor, Poor Pitiful Me!

From a racist who has had everything handed to her and doors opened for her all her life because she’s black – yet she still whines and complains.

I direct your attention to Mrs. Obama’s 1985 thesis at Princeton University. Its title (rather limited in scope, given the author and the campus) is “Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community.” To describe it as hard to read would be a mistake; the thesis cannot be “read” at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is because it wasn’t written in any known language.

This broad and her no talent husband have had the world handed to them on a platter. They appreciate nothing given to them. She is now First Lady and wife of the most allegedly powerful man on earth. She has privileges neither Queen Elizabeth or the Emperor of Japan have. She spends money that they would be publicly humiliated over. She is classless and so obviously racist it is amazing, a classy public figure would keep unsavory opinions to herself. A lady in Target asked to reach something on an upper shelf and she took that as an example of white racist. When someone asks me that in a store, male or female, black or white, I just assume they think I look both tall and friendly. She has the largest personal staff in the nations history and the press ignores most of it.
Despite the advantages she has been given, that most, if not all, middle class persons would never receive, despite her husbands success and her position in society she is nothing more than a well spoken ghetto rat, and she didn’t even grow up in the ghetto.

Sh-h-h-h. You’re not supposed to notice these things. Furthermore, your making these statements shows just how deep the river of racism runs in America. You, IstvanIN, benefit from the legacy of slavery every day.

Your white privilege is original sin that can never be erased until you give, give, give to the cause of sacred negritude until there is nothing left to give. Even then you will still be an effin honky, yo.

The First Tranny whining about how bad she has it in America? Move to Africa and see how well you do. I see this came form Yahoo which lately is full of stories like this from ultra left-wing publications. No news, just story after story of butt hurt homo’s and blacks.

Perhaps these ladies and gentlemen should exercise restraint when speaking, thus eliciting mere indifference rather than ire among other Americans.I guess that’s still un-PC, huh? • Lexonaut

“Why do African American citizens only concern themselves with their own and only their own community’s concerns?”

Because they’re narcisstic psychopaths. Like O.J. Simpson, few of them have consciences. They know that there is strength in unity but beyond that they don’t have a problem even with killing each other much less the rest of us.

The irony of the King’s wife complaining of oppression is lost on her and her herd. As infants, on the rare occasions that Blacks spend time teaching their children, they learn, “Dat beez rayciss”, as the most important words they will ever speak. It is the key to any future success one might find in life.

Every year for the last six years, Blacks have killed an average of over 6000 other Blacks by gun fire. Take just last year, Blacks killed about 6300 other Blacks. Compare that with the last 14 years of war in Afghanistan, 4300 US soldiers were killed in full scale warfare. So, in just one year, Blacks killed more Americans, than were killed in 14 years of war in either Afghanistan or Iraq (about the same numbers of US soldiers were killed in each war though casualties differ).
