Edison’s Plans to Cut Jobs, Hire Foreign Workers Is Assailed

Shan Li and Matt Morrison, Los Angeles Times, February 10, 2015

Southern California Edison’s plans to lay off hundreds of employees and hire foreign workers instead is coming under attack from lawmakers in Congress and local unions.

On Tuesday, more than 300 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers rallied in Irvine in support of their fellow Edison employees and protested what they say are unfair labor practices.

Meanwhile, members of Congress are upset about reports that Edison is laying off workers in favor of bringing in cheaper labor from overseas under the controversial H-1B visa program. The visas are intended to bring in skilled and educated foreign workers.

Edison denied that it was using the H-1B program to fill jobs previously held by U.S. workers.

The company “is not hiring H-1B workers to replace displaced employees,” Edison said in a statement. “Any H-1B visa workers SCE does hire for its own workforce are paid a wage comparable to SCE’s domestic workforce.”

The Southland’s largest utility said it is laying off about 400 information technology employees, with an additional 100 leaving voluntarily. The layoffs are necessary, the company said, to stay competitive.

Edison said it is outsourcing some tech-related work to two Indian companies, Infosys in Bangalore and Tata Consultancy Services in Mumbai. The vendors were selected after Edison looked at multiple firms, including some in the U.S.

{snip}

About 70% of the work to be done by Tata and Infosys will be completed offshore, Edison spokeswoman Susan Cox said. She said she didn’t know whether foreign workers would be brought to the U.S. to complete the remaining 30%.

Despite the uncertainty, speculation that Edison would bring workers from India to the U.S. renewed debate over the H-1B visa program and sparked a backlash from Edison’s Southland workers.

Many who protested Tuesday in Irvine on behalf of the IT workers carried signs with slogans such as “No Foreign Workers!” and “Get Off the Dime.”

{snip}

Scott Wetch, a Sacramento lobbyist for several locals of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, said Edison is “systematically outsourcing jobs.”

“As people come over on H-1B visas, they literally lay off other people at the Irvine tech center,” Wetch said.

{snip}

“It’s all part of the same narrative,” said Wetch, adding that legislation in response to the layoffs is already in the works in Sacramento. “They are bringing in cheaper labor . . . and sticking it to ratepayers.”

Several lawmakers also lambasted the utility.

Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican from Vista, said Edison is “merely replacing current workers with lower-paid counterparts.”

“This appears to be an example of precisely what the H-1B visa is not intended to be: a program to simply replace American workers en masse with cheap labor from overseas,” he said in a statement.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) said the Edison layoffs are part of a growing trend of companies that use H-1B visas to bring in foreign workers for jobs that could be filled by Americans.

“You come in on the H-1B visa program for the sole purpose of taking a job,” Sessions said in a speech on the Senate floor last week. “They come solely for a limited period of time to take a job, and they work for less pay too often.”

Are they really evil or dimly wicked and just not very bright?

How did they think this would play out? Trick question…they didn’t really think much.

Amren needs to get its own political puppet or lobby. Most of these politicians only worry about the next election and too busy getting hookers and coke to really analyze the impacts of their policies. Actually its their aids that do most of the work, so that may be a good job for an amrener to look into getting.

      • 李冠毅

I’m not sure if the article below is a reliable source, but apparently most politicians do care more about themselves than their voters (other than during elections).

I don’t know a lot about being a politician because I’m poor and relatively uneducated, but some of my distant relatives are wealthy. One of them went to college for political science and became a successful politician. So it’s actually a major in college to be a politician (or sometimes they study law and become a politician so a lot of them are lawyers, but of course that is a related field). I wonder exactly what they teach them in those classes. “Here is how to lie to voters and get votes” maybe. I’m sure Zionist have their input in the courses somehow as well.

If Amren had a few billionaires that were smart and serious about the issues you would see American politics change really quickly in favor of Amren’s viewpoints. It’s the illusion that they give to people: that politicians are the real power.

Take Hitler as a prime example. Everybody believes this person was living on the streets and suddenly in a couple years almost rules the world. it’s not the real story. The wealthy people who supported the Kaiser decided Hitler was a good speaker and had ideas they liked so they used their money to put together his army and rise him up. Behind every major politician are some big donors.

But if I went and ran for a major office (a small office I could probably win and there is more power of the people in small offices) but I mean if run for some important office I can’t say the truth. If I do the media will destroy my chances of winning. If I have all the ideas of the people, it doesn’t matter. They don’t know who I am unless I have a huge advertising budget. And so on. Usually whoever has the most money wins because the average voter is a moron. He makes the vote based on a 30 second commercial or the way the candidate looks (if he is attractive) or some other stupid reason.

What’s up with all the hatred of Jews in the White Nationalist community?

          • Raymond Kidwell

I thought that was obvious. Jews are loyal to their own group, thus organized Jews generally don’t consider themselves “white” or part of the nation. In simple terms a lot of Jewish groups are out to dominate others, be at the top of society, and may support beliefs or policies that are harmful to whites.

Also criticizing this does not = hating Jews. Jewish propaganda tries to tie any opposition to their dominance (supremacy) with hating them. A lot of them teach their own people that race is important and they should marry other Jews etc. and then put together TV programs for the rest of us telling us race mixing is great or push for affirmative action policies then find ways to get their own people out of it etc.

With the Nazis you have a situation where Jews originally supported Germany then turned against Germany because they thought it would help them get the nation of Israel created. So they declared war on Germany through economic embargo world wide and slandering them in newspapers across Europe and the U.S. totally destroyed Germany left a lot of people starving. The Rothschilds and a few others mainly control international banking- it’s a jewish thing, as well at the time controlled the Soviet Union which treated its people horribly.

Hitler killed any international bankers he could find and attempted to take over the Soviet Union. So the reason for Nazi anti-semitism was related to the fact the entire country was angry and felt betrayed by the treaty of Versailles.

Basically the Germans were winning WWI militarily and then suddenly surrendered due to some influence over the leaders and banking, and propaganda and all these other reasons. Then they had to pay a lot of money to other nations and bankers which left the people starving. So that is the origins of the Nazi anti-semitism.

Hitler never planned to kill all Jews either. He even supported Israel existing. His plan was to remove all Jews from Germany and then to expand Germany by taking over the Soviet Union and some territories in between. Hitler never wanted war with England, but rather an alliance. England and France attacked him. His aim was the Soviet Union and international bankers the whole time.

You had at the end of WWII the allies had destroyed everything in Germany as far as food and factories. Everyone starving again, so the prisoners in the camps died of starvation and disease, and the bodies were burned. Of course people can argue this is all a lie and Hitler really just hated Jews for no reason and wanted to kill them all and rule the world. I’m not going to argue about that.

Well just imagine some small group in china says “we are not chinese and don’t want to be chinese. we are a separate people” and then take over the newspapers and banking. They are naturally more talented verbally so go into those professions whether by accident or design. Then start to tell Chinese people to hate themselves and give special privileges to non-chinese. then also sucking up huge wealth for themselves, manipulating government and politicians. And a Chinese man says “Maybe Jews shouldn’t be allowed to do this” and they answer “why do you hate us”. I mean it’s not really hate to say naturally there needs to be some law or some limits on the behavior of others. Since Jews primarily fight with words and ideas rather than swords its important to just make a counter argument.

If a rich Jew supports “race traitor magazine” that says all whites should be wiped off the face of the earth. I think it’s important to say who supports this and why. Because they always seem to be hiding behind lies. I guess its really the level of stupidity of the goyim that lets them get away with all this.

It’s the same with government. I guess a Jew could do any crime almost and get away with it, but if you write online that maybe the law should apply to everyone equally they might classify you as a racist or something.

          • 李冠毅

I have doubts about the Jewish racial purity thing. From what I read, they encouraged Jews (religion) to marry other Jews, but did not specify Jews must only marry other Jews of the same race. Also, Ashkenazi Jews in the US currently have very high rates of intermarriage with non-Jews. Plus, Israel’s policy apparently allows all Jews, irrespective of race, to “return home” (much to the chagrin of Ashkenazi Jews).
            en[dot]wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Racism_in_Israel

          • Raymond Kidwell

A lot of Jews just become normal Americans. But the Jewish organizations and the syangogues and such very strongly encourage their children to be Zionist and to marry a Jew etc. The children don’t always do this. They typically marry in their own group and it gets pretty specific. So if you have the Satmar sect in New York most of them marry other Satmars. of course lots of cases where they don’t, but the majority do. Satmars are Jewish, Ashkenazi and Yiddish and Satmar. So its a very specific group. The further out you go, the less common intermarriage is. If they don’t marry Satmar maybe it will still be a yid from another sect, if not that maybe still Jewish etc. It doesn’t matter though because the orthodox groups have a large number of children. Even if they lose a number of them their population still grows. The normal liberal Jews don’t have a lot of children though, maybe only replace themselves.

As well sometimes a rich Jewish man will get a trophy wife, some beautiful blond Aryan. Then the half Jewish offspring marry back into the tribe, sort of a way of improving the genetics in some way. There’s layers of complexity, but the culture is pretty racist and concerned with marrying other Jews. In israel its illegal for a Jew to marry non-Jew.

Also racially Ashkenazi and Sesphardic come from the same race. All Jews are related except the black ones. Simply Ashkenazi mixed with Europeans and became more white and Sephardic is more like the original Jews, but mixed more with Arabs and Spanish. They do look slightly different and little different mentally on average, but related peoples. It’s like comparing North Chinese racially mixing with South Chinese.

Jewish is all about race, not religion as well. They consider someone a Jew if the mother is a Jew, regardless of religion. And if a person “converts” to Judaism they are a mamzer usually or have some other status often not considered a real Jew. Yes it’s possible for the tribe to absorb some outside blood, but their entire religion and Zionist organizations are dedicated to keeping the tribe alive.

I think whites could just copy everything Jews do and survive as a people but most of them are too dumb or not dedicated enough to do this.

A Jewish convert can return home, but can’t marry a real Jew. There’s ways around this I mean you could get her pregnant but still it is discouraged through Israel law. So go ahead and contact Israel tell them you are a chinese Jew and see how you get treated over there.

Israel does seem a little bit relaxed about considering some white europeans “jewish” even though they aren’t, but I’m sure as a black or asian unless you can prove Jewish ancestors you will have problems being a part of that society.

There is a certain level of stupidity that is no less harmful than pure evil. But the congressroaches (trademark Derb) who support amnesty and schemes such as H1B do so with the explicit intent to keep wages low as a favor to their corporate masters.

  • Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican from Vista, said Edison is “merely replacing current workers with lower-paid counterparts.”

Unfortunately, Issa wants legislation that would result in a net increase in H-1B visas allotted annually. He’s trying to make us think that it solves the problem, because it stops the Infosys/Tata bodyshops. In reality, the “good” corporations abuse the H-1B program worse than the Indian bodyshops, and the Issa legislation would give them way many more H-1B annual allocations.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) said the Edison layoffs are part of a growing trend of companies that use H-1B visas to bring in foreign workers for jobs that could be filled by Americans.

    I knew sanity would prevail.

This can’t be right. I have been told that H1-Bs are only for jobs where a company after making a good faith effort has failed to find a reasonably qualified American and then pays the foreign worker the prevailing wage.

  • Samuel_Morton

There are so many issues being conflated here, it’s almost impossible to make sense out of it. Labor unions seemingly on the side of immigration restrictionists. The problem of course is the mindset that all humans are interchangeable.

A truly meritocratic immigration system would benefit any nation, but we all know exactly what that would look like: people from northern latitudes (Nordics, Ashkenazim, and northern Asians).

The problem is that the Europeans in this equation have a significant percentage of their population who adhere to a death cult of radical egalitarianism. And the Asians feed into this mindset when it suits their needs.

Nationalism is almost no longer an option, outside of Asia, after decades of insane open immigration in the West.

Sometimes the future seems bleak indeed. Maybe the future lies in Asia’s hands. At least they’re not easily persuaded to feel guilty about other’s shortcomings.

    • 李冠毅

I’m a northeast Asian, and no, I don’t have a thing against White people. Not all of us believe White people are racist and evil; I know you guys are currently suffering discrimination from non-Whites (including from my fellow Asians), and I would donate to help form a White rights group if I could.

      • Samuel_Morton

I have nothing against Asians either, and thank you for your sentiments. At least there is one part of the world where a high functioning ethnic group does not apologize for their success. If only whites could collectively do this also.

The biggest enemies facing U.S. Senate Republicans in raising the H-1B cap
are Senate Republicans. The Senate’s two top Republican critics of temporary worker immigration, specifically the H-1B and L-1 visas, now hold the two most important
    immigration posts in the Senate.

They are Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who heads the Senate’s Judiciary
Committee, and his committee underling, Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who was
appointed by Grassley on Thursday to head the immigration subcommittee.

Grassley has been the Republican’s most tenacious and unwavering critic of
the H-1B program and has tried to curb use by offshore outsourcers, in
particular. Sessions, however, may emerge as the Senate’s most vociferous and
    fiery H-1B opponent.

Sessions, late Thursday, issued a statement about his new role as
immigration subcommittee chairman, and said the committee “will give voice to
those whose voice has been shut out,” and that includes “the voice of the
American IT workers who are being replaced with guest workers.”

Sessions last week accused the tech industry of perpetuating a “hoax” by claiming
there is a shortage of qualified U.S. tech workers.

“The tech industry’s promotion of expanded temporary visas–such as the
H-1B–and green cards is driven by its desire for cheap, young and immobile
labor,” wrote Sessions, in a memo he sent last week to fellow lawmakers.

This was happening 10 years ago in Florida, and has been happening across America the entire time.

In that case I remember the Indians were being paid in Rupees back home, and being given a small stipend to live together dorm style while on site in America.

And similarly each American was assigned an Indian to train and steal their job. If they refused, they were fired immediately. If they accepted, they got an extra 6 weeks of pay while they did the training.

Tata consulting is the major player in this. I remember around 2003 Hillary Clinton attended a ground breaking ceremony at a Tata location in NY state. She gut the ribbon.
