Petition Started to Close Basketball Court in St. Louis City Park

Shawndrea Thomas, Fox 2 (St. Louis), September 17, 2014

A petition to permanently close the basketball courts at Tilles Park started about 4 weeks ago at a Tilles Park Neighborhood Association meeting. Some thought the visitors at the court were creating a hostile environment filled with intimidation, profanity, public urination and drug use. FOX 2 asked 23rd ward Alderman Joe Vacarro if the move was racially motivated he says it not. Vacarro says problem has been sparked by visitors violating the park curfew.

Petitioners want the basketball court replaced with more family friendly games like volleyball and shuffleboard. Alderman Vaccaro also says at least 80 people have signed the petition so far. The next step is to present the signatures at the next neighborhood association meeting set for November 25th. After that it goes on to the St. Louis City Parks department for review.

  • Tilles Park is in a generally very white area, full of city cops and firefighters, but the periphery of the area, because of its apartments, is starting to fill up with the undertow.

They’re right when they say that race is the motivation. This same thing happened in Lafayette Square quite a few years ago. The neighborhood association, representing a neighborhood that was really starting to hit its gentrification stride, was successful in getting the parks department to de-basketballize the park. And you can’t say it has hurt the neighborhood, because it’s now the type where if you want to buy a house that’s directly on the park, you’re looking at at least $500,000.

De-basketballize. I’m going to have to file that term away for future use.

      • I wrote that term down in my pen & paper journal. It is less easily lost that way.

I was on the campus of a small college this afternoon for an outdoor event (not sports-related), and I ran into an organizer of the event. She commented that the student volunteers were doing a great job, which I’d already noticed.

I’d also already noticed a pack of five or six young, male Africans shuffling around, taking up the entire sidewalk so that visitors had to walk around them. They were hooting and speaking loudly in ebonics and wore comical outfits as if demanding to be noticed. Some of them had taken event literature intended for visitors and put it on their heads to keep the sun off.

The event organizer commented that she was particularly pleased with the baseball team, which had volunteered to take care of the event’s traffic and parking.

She then nodded her head toward the roving blacks and said, “That’s the basketball team.”

Thanks to our friend Question Diversity, I thought, This campus needs to be de-basketballized.

            Great anecdote!

          • indoctrination_FAIL

If they’re not in the “Motherland”, the term is african. Small “a”.

And it’s always amusing to see stereotypes being reinforced, vigorously.

LHathaway my buddy’s step-sister makes $69/hr on the internet. She has been fired for nine months but last month her check was $20572 just working on the internet for a few hours. Read more on,….P&#101&#114&#x66&#101&#99&#116&#50&#51&#46&#67&#x6FM

      • Michael Whalen

Your buddy’s step sister looks at a lot of ceilings.

        • A “Best Spam Response” contest might be appropriate somewhere. I can’t imagine why they spam here. Good one, Michael Whalen!

    • jackryanvb

Got to love oh so subtle Lib racist urban pioneers.

      • The white people in that area aren’t libs. Because of the residency rule for city cops and fire, recently somewhat weakened for cops, they bought heavily in that neighborhood because at the time it was the only big swath of the city that was still all white.

    • Dave West

Don’t worry Tilles Park will turn into another Ferguson in about 20 years, it always starts with the apartments. The black people living in the apartment complex where Michael Brown was shot are most likely the descendants of the “original settlers.”

      • My long term bet is on the white people in that area.

      • R L Buds

I have noticed that some white kids start acting stupid when “they” are around. The white kids walk out into traffic with their pants hanging low; but they dont realize that the blacks do this on low traffic roads, in the hood, but the whites kids do it on main roads in the burbs with potentially deadly results.

  • DaveMed

Some thought the visitors at the court were creating a hostile environment filled with intimidation, profanity, public urination and drug use…

It doesn’t seem like anyone else is really making an issue out of race, so I wonder why anti-Whites would bring this up in the first place.

In the same vein as the saggy pants issue, vocally associating intimidation, profanity, public urination, and drug use with “urban” Americans, while accurate, does not exactly cast that group in the best light.

    • IstvanIN

Whenever bad behavior is mentioned in a general sort of way progressives immediately think black for the simple reason that even they know who causes most of the problems.

      • bilderbuster

That’s also the easiest way to prove to any skeptics that the progressives are anti-White to the core.
Who else would promote public urination, drug dealing, foul language, ect… in a quiet White neighborhood.

    • LHathaway

This a world where ‘victims’ are held up as being more moral and righteous. It could be argued that by this time, the average person even see ‘victims’ as being more powerful. Rather than casting them in a bad light, I suspect this type of thing is casting them in the role of ‘victims’, and it’s meant to elevate them, certainly elevate their concerns to the front and center of everyone’s thinking. I strongly suspect the day is coming when being a victim pretty much just means you are a loser in most peoples eyes. You’re perhaps just a little ahead of the curve.

  • Alexandra1973

You mean midnight basketball doesn’t make them behave?

    • [Guest]

Yes, and it makes them behave right there in your neighborhood public park, thereby turning it into a dump.

    • Bill Clinton lied to us about that? Nooooo.

    • Periapsis

Oh they behave alright, as in behaving badly. A lot of neighborhood parks should have all the basketball goals cut down. If the blacks want to play basketball, they can set up their own courts.

  • IstvanIN

Basketball courts attract “them”. My neighborhood association beat back an attempt to turn tennis courts into basketball courts. Quite frankly I would get rid of those as well.

    • Alexandra1973

Basketball courts also attract my pre-teen son, but there’s no way I’d let him play with the “youths.”

The church I go to has a basketball court. And it’s a safe place for the kids to play. It’s also in a very White area.

  • MekongDelta69

“Some wonder if it is racially motivated.”

Nooooo – it is black crime motivated.

    • Samuel Hathaway

      Black crime motivated… Indeed.

  • [Guest]

It looks as if public parks, like a whole lot of other civilized things, are suited to the way white people think and behave.

  • B.A_2014

I’m so ashamed. How could wicked white people have the basketball court closed. These young innocent black teens were just trying to better themselves.

Im going to write a strongly worded letter on behalf of mud…sorry black people to the king of white people.

    Bring me to your leader!

  • Tim_in_Indiana

The basketball court in my local park was rehabbed a few years ago and it drew a lot of blacks from neighboring areas. In short order, all the backboards were broken and they were simply not replaced. That solved the problem without anything being called “racially motivated.” The tennis courts in the same park remain fully functional to this day, the nets never being taken down, cut or vandalized (blacks don’t play tennis).

  • Luca

I’d be out there with a ladder and a ratchet set. Problem solved.

    • someonewhoknows

Could you please call it the tool kit? Ratchet is soooo ratchet 😉 Just havin’ some fun, sorry, could not resist.

      • awb

        Ratchet’s be Raaycist

      • Malgus

I wouldn’t even mess with that itty bitty stuff…

Just pull a Cool Hand Luke and cut the thing down with a biga$$ed pipe cutter…

    • Dale McNamee

I’d also have a backhoe there to break up the concrete…

  • Ultimately, in the final analysis, blacks turn everything they come into contact with into a t*rd pile. There may be individual exceptions, but as a race they have no ability to create anything of value. And when given something of value they are unable to maintain it.

They must be segregated from other races and be responsible for themselves. We’r on the edge of a cliff and they pulling over. At the bottom, total hell await us.

    • MBlanc46

I’m in almost full agreement with this, with the exception of “be responsible for themselves”. Too many blacks are incapable of being responsible for themselves. We’ll find it cheaper to take some responsibility (along with its correlate, authority) for them.

  • Ringo Lennon

Why was Fox 2 asking the alderman if it was racially motivated?

    • Guest

Because media. What doe the fox say?

    • someonewhoknows

Because media. What does the fox say?

  • Samuel Hathaway

How about blaring classical music in the general vicinity? “Classic urban renewal”, as they say. There is nothing like Bach and Chopin to clear out the riff-raff.

    • someonewhoknows

      Or Slayer. 😉

      • Samuel Hathaway

Perhaps K.D. Lang in drag, as she appeared once on the Arsenio Hall show, would do the trick

        • Melvin Bonzarelli

Whoopi Goldberg stark naked should do the trick. Even the grass would stop growing.

    • Rusty Shackelford

Just have hidden speakers that randomly play a young child’s voice going “are you my daddy?”. Problem solved.

  • someonewhoknows

Dress codes, petitions as per the above example, etc. ALWAYS without fail bring the blacks out screaming racism. WAIT though – aren’t they stereotyping themselves by extrapolating their own tendencies from these commonsense initiatives, whether they be based on simple civilized decorum (in the case of dress codes) or out of the desire to protect the community from the criminally-minded (in the case of dress codes – ha! yep – and in doing away with that which attracts said elements)? One makes sure the kitchen is clean so as not to attract roaches.

    • Dave West

It’s always racist anytime blacks can’t be bothered to do something everyone else appears to be able to manage. Voter ID, being quiet in class, not getting into random fights in public, pretending to work hard, dress codes, not arguing/playing amateur lawyer with police for the smallest infraction (“I don have to sho you my ID I din do nuffin'”)

  • MBlanc46

Incidents like these are almost always “racially motivated”. Decent people (and probably even some not-so-decent people) don’t want black thugs coming into their neighborhoods for basketball or any other reason.

  • JohnEngelman

I would rather they play basketball than the knockout game.

    • bilderbuster

You can’t have one without the other.
Wherever there are Blacks you will have everything that Blackness brings.

  • IKUredux

You know, the answer is simple, if the park is located in a predominately White neighborhood, it has got to go! If it’s in a black area, who the hell cares. Remove any and all barriers for them to kill each other. Better they should take out their savage passions on each other.

  • jackryanvb

Here in Chicago, an interesting co-alition of supposedly “liberal” groups have effectively ethnically cleansed poor Blacks from Chicago’s beautiful Lakefront. We tore down the high rise public housing projects, ripped out virtually every concrete basketball court and replaced them with things like prairie restoration parks, flood control native species bogs and even expensive sail boat basins.

    Go green and White!

  • Dave West

You can have recreational facilities without fighting, drug use, and other bad behavior OR you can have wonderful diversity. You CAN’T HAVE BOTH!

  • Melvin Bonzarelli

Booker T. Washington said something very similar to what you said. In his book, “Up From Slavery”. About his own people.

  • Melvin Bonzarelli

Good catch. YouTube took down the video because they were getting complaints that the video was racist. I kid you not!

  • voiceofstl

About 10 yrs ago our local Catholic church/school took down their hoops. For years the local kids iused them, then for about the past 2 yrs blacks from outside the area discovered them. They were all older teens and into their 20’s. They would push the local kids off the courts and take over. And of course with the loud rap music cussing and drinking. So the liberal Priest took them down. And now no one can use them.
    Thank you my black brothers.

    • Tim

Two hoops is a small price to pay for getting rid of trouble makers…

  • Dave West

How about separate basketball courts for blacks and whites in the area; no wait, never mind that would make too much sense and it would be RACIST!

  • Alex Dihes

FOX 2 asked 23rd ward Alderman Joe Vacarro if the move was racially motivated he says it not.
Hey, cowardly-whites, why don’t you racially motivate the place: chess, checkers, discussing, reading, listening – Longfellow, Beethoven, Chekhov, Ch. Murray, Michel de Montaigne…

Why do you swallow the vomiting pills – Madonna, football, baseball, M. Jackson, Oprah, Cosby, M. Ali… Shame on you.

  • There was a proposal at my townhouse complex 16 years ago to build a basketball court, and it was shot down in flames. It would have been an attractive nuisance, and our HOA dues would have gone up to pay to build the damned thing and again for the extra insurance coverage.

This is a quiet neighborhood, full of retired couples, young families with small children, and young single professionals. We are not exactly your basketball demographic.

The last thing any sane neighborhood wants in it is basketball.

  • Rusty Shackelford

The right to quiet enjoyment and blacks don’t go well together.

  • Nancy

We have the same issue right down the street. In Gwinnett County, we have one of the only parks with a dedicated dog run area, and right across the street is a library. It even has a mini-skateboard park. When it was built, of course, it was highly patronized by whites.

However, it also has a basketball court, and that thing is jammed with Negroes from about 3pm until dark. In previous years, that’s the only area where they congregated. Today, the entire park is covered in vibrants, and little blacks and browns run around there every day. The rest of us found a new park to visit, but over the past few years, the vibrants found that one as well.

What’s worse, my husband and I both noticed that up and down the two-lane road which is the central artery and runs for several miles (passing the park and B-Ball court), we’re seeing a lot of people walking up and down that street, and none of them are white. These vibrants aren’t walking for their health, either: they have somewhere to go, and don’t own a car. They’re certainly not walking to the library to check out a book. Yet the local developer who’s trying to build apartments nearby INSISTS that the units are for “the young professionals working at the hospital”.

Tilles Park is wise to get rid of the basketball courts. It seems that in our immediate area, this whole “browning of our zip code” began with community basketball as the nucleus, and metastasized from there.

  • Ringo Lennon

Same thing with libraries. When they just had books you’d never see a black in there. The minute they put in computers and rap and hip hop CD’s you can’t keep them out of there. Heaven forbid a black would read a book.
