The Most Dangerous Cities in America, 2012

Michael B. Sauter et al., Yahoo! News, June 12, 2012

New FBI data shows that violent crime rates are improving across America, but among cities with the highest crime problems, murder rates continued to rise in 2011. The FBI finds that violent crime dropped 4% in 2011, compared with a 5.5% drop in 2010. Nationally, the murder rate fell 1.9% from 2010, and robbery, forcible rape and assault fell 4% each.

Yet a 24/7 Wall St. review of 2011 FBI crime data shows that violent crime rose in more than half of the cities that have among the highest rates in the country. In seven of the 10 cities, murder rates increased. In eight of the 10, burglary went up.

Strained budgets are forcing police layoffs that many cities cannot afford to make. More than half of local police departments that responded to a national survey reported cuts in the 2011 fiscal year, according to the Police Executive Research Forum, an organization of police executives from across the country. Many are cutting police forces through planned layoffs and attrition. More than half of the cities with the highest violent crime rates are cutting law enforcement budgets and police forces as well. However, unlike the national picture, the situation is worse for these cities, which depend on tax bases that are shrinking faster than most.

The cities with the highest crime rates tend to have particularly high poverty rates, high unemployment and low median income. Two of the worst-off cities, Flint and Detroit, Mich., both have had well-publicized budget woes. Flint was taken over by an emergency city manager after failing to pay its bills in 2011. Detroit is facing similar budget problems and recently came to a temporary oversight agreement with the state.

While the Detroit Police Department reported no budget cuts for fiscal year 2012, the city is planning a 15% cut next year. Detroit also has one of the highest crime rates in the country.

Based on the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, 24/7 Wall St. identified the 10 U.S. cities with populations of 100,000 or more with the highest rates of violent crime per 1,000 residents. {snip}

Go Memphrica!! Next year, you’re #1, baby!!

    • Up to my neck in CA

Sheet fool, Oak-Town will be # 1 next year!! You can count on the Mexican-black race war to keep the numbers high, not to mention the blacks ability to kill each other indiscriminatley at alarming rates over the slightest problem. The murder rate of Oak-Town is like the crime barometer for the SF Bay Area.

I’ll laugh and snicker when St. Louis winds up high up if not at the top of these lists.  But then my common sense rides to the rescue.  Am I supposed to believe that slightly less than half black (and declining) St. Louis is comparably dangerous to or worse than 90% black Detroit?  Am I supposed to believe that a city whose budget is strained but nowhere near insolvency is worse off than a city that might run out of money in a few weeks?

St. Louis just happens to be more accurate in its crime reporting stats than most cities, mainly because the police department is under state control.

  •  As if blacks don’t buy drugs?  Those EBT cards you help fill every month buy a lot of crack, whack, smack and funny cigarettes!

Yes, you’re right.  Percent black isn’t the only predictor of violent crime.  But where you have a black population, you almost always have young black men.  And as JT has demonstrated, the percentage of your  population that is young black men between certain ages is the best statistical coefficient of your crime rate.

What St. Louis has far more of than Detroit for obvious reasons is black-on-white crime, e.g. the Knockout Martin Luther Kings.

When I lived in the San Francisco Bay area I frequently visited Oakland’s Chinatown. I was perfectly safe there.

    • The__Bobster

Why not? You were dating half the population, maybe all if you swung both ways.

      • JohnEngelman

That news story is unbelievably weird.

    •  You REALLY seem to like those Chinese; it seems like you would be happier living in an ASIAN country with all of those brilliant Asians.

      • WhitesRdumb

I would rather live in Eurpoe with Germans, Austrians, Icelanders, or Finlanders if those countries returned to the way they were in 1945 (without Americans). I could even deal with the destruction.  But if I had a choice to either live in a place like Singapore, South Korea, or Japan, or live in the USA, I would choose those Asian countries.  Those Asians countries treat whites better than they get treated in teh USA.

        • thiudemir

How true. Same for Mexico and South America countries like Chile and Ecuador. I thinks lots of Americans are retiring there. I wonder if anyone in the government has ever calculated the cost of someone with a healthy federal or state pension moves to another country .

      • JohnEngelman

Chinese have high IQs, low crime rates, and an ancient and fascinating civilization. What’s not to like about those people?

        • pc must go

frosty, frigidness, DragonLadies ,etc. I don’t find asian culture to be fascinating at all. Like most whites, I see  drones and clones, faceless sames.

Good for them for having High IQ and Low Crime though.

          Great Food.

A few years ago, I had to attend a trade show in Oakland. I stayed in SF and commuted on the BART (subway). I was one of the few whites on the train and felt pretty uncomfortable. I have to admit, no one bothered me or was rude in any way. One night however, on the ride back to SF, the SWAT team boarded the train and ran through the cars to neutralize some “threat”. I have no idea what it was…quite “exciting” though.

Chinatown is safe during the day. Most stores close about 5pm when the office workers go home. All the shops in Chinatown have bars on the wondows or metal roll-up doors. There are a lot of old time Chinese gangs in Chiniatown, but they don’t usually go after whites unless they are really bored. But if you are alone in a remote area and find yourself in front of a bored young Asian gang you can expect to get your face kicked in. When I was 17 I was friends with a few Asian gang member. They would brag about beating other white kids; usually 10 to 1. They weren’t my friends very long. You would not beleive what the police would do. Those Asians usually got caught, but the police wouldn’t do anything to them. It was always the same thing. The Asians would say that 2 white guys attacked them, and they defended themselves. The Police beleived them. Even the white Policemen.

San Francisco’s Chinatown in the 1960s became one of the most impoverished areas in California. Public policy professors James Q. Wilson and Richard Hernstein wrote: “One neighborhood in San Francisco had the lowest income, the highest unemployment rate, the highest proportion of families with incomes under $4,000 per year, the least educational attainment, the highest tuberculosis rate and the highest proportion of substandard housing. … That neighborhood was called Chinatown. Yet, in 1965, there were only five persons of Chinese ancestry committed to prison in the entire state of California.”–_mia_109252.html

      • Hyacinthhouse88

I have also had (wannabe) chinese/asian gangbangerette types instigate a fight with me for zero reason here in a local chinatown.

        I am a woman.

  • MekongDelta69

Funny, I don’t see the word “black” in the article.
Oops – I forgot – Yahoo is part of the MSM, which means you can’t tell the truth.

    • Actually Jewhoo’s comments section is basically free from censorship. One of my favorite places to comment other than youtube. I can say anything on Yoojew.

      • I am talking about Yahoo! where I can say anything I want without having my comments deleted. As it should be.

        • JohnEngelman

On American Renaissance one is expected to be civil. Personal insults and  expressions of hatred for entire groups of people usually get deleted. As they should be.

      • The__Bobster

Six months ago, Yahoodie censored and banned like crazy. Now, just about anything goes.

  • We know, we know they are all black cities.

  • Richard Lynn’s IQ and Global Inequality – basically every indicator that defines poverty and low quality of life is highest where IQs are lowest and blacks are in greatest numbers. The opposite is true for whites. What makes the book fascinating is that the authors are basically reporting the uncanny corellations between data indicators, rather than trying to force the data to confirm their conclusions. I did a few comparisons myself starting with the Failed States index and ranking the highest and lowest according to Human Development Index, Global Competitiveness Index, and Lynn’s IQ scores. The results were more predictable than a low budget horror film (or just another day in the hood). The findings show that Obama’s new economic plan for Africa is doomed to fail, not that there was any doubt.

“US President Barack Obama released a sweeping new Africa strategy Thursday, declaring a continent torn by poverty, corruption and discord could be the world’s next big economic success story.”

  • IstvanIN

This used to be America 50 years ago. Actually even 30 years ago.  I remember.  Now we are just a northern cesspool of Mexico.  Or is that a western cesspool of Africa?  In any case we are not in American any more.

  • tickyul

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

More and more of this country will, not too far in the future, resemble places like Detroitbabwe.

  • More likely it is because the population is increasing. Fewer crimes per capita, yet still more crime than previously.

  • I’ve never seen a list comparing cities linking violence and poverty with Democrat administrations and registered majority Democrat electorate.

    I’m sure I know why.

  • JohnEngelman

In Chinatown the youths spend their time doing their homework, and working in their parents’ restaurants and shops.

  • mikejones91

I wonder what the common denominator is these cities?  It certainly isn’t race—wait..

  • LudwigvonDrake

Oakland has received some unwanted attention in what appears to be an exposé of sorts that has made it to The Carolina Journal’s book review this month. Chinese Girl in the Ghetto, by Ying Ma, Seattle: Create Space, 155 pgs, 2012, $9.99
As a non-English speaking immigrant, she realized the American dream. The original idea was to write a book about a “journey from authoritarianism to a free society,” states Ying, but in 2010, multiple crimes by black teenagers against Asians in Oakland, Calif., changed the tenor of her book. Readers will be shocked by black-on-Asian crime and abuse she and other Asians experience.
This book appears to be a fascinating and, for non-AR initiated readers, an eye opening story about legal immigration in America. Non-English speakers new to America fall easy pray to the ever present sludge that has collected at the bottom of urban “society”. Being being both intelligent and industrious, these people are easy prey.

    • frmore

      Thanks. Gonna get this one!

    • Non English speakers have no business in this country whatsoever other than tourism.

      • WhitesRdumb

Wernher Von Braun didn’t speak English.

I think if someone can really benefit this country, it would be to our benefit to bring them here.

        • Okay, that was a bit disingenuous..  You know as well as everyone else that von Braun was brought to the US under Operation Paperclip and all that that entails.

Problem is, we’re not getting von Braun’s today.  How many individuals of von Braun’s intelligence, ability, vision and creativity would you say there was admitted to the US in the last 10 years?  20?  40?  Von Braun WAS the space program, that’s how important he was.

Sorry, but I agree with Chris.  Don’t care how much you have to offer or how much benefit we will realize by admitting you, if you admit one, that’s the camel’s nose under the tent (which is what we’re dealing with now).

There isn’t anything a ‘person of color’ can do, that a white can’t do better.  This thinking that if it ‘benefits’ us somehow, then that’s okay is just hogwash.

black  mobs are attacking white teens in oregon

  • Detroit_WASP

Pontiac is also in a steep decline as well.  So, whites build homes and live in them.  Blacks must move into homes/areas that whites built because they are incapable of building their own.  Instead they destroy them.  So, whites move out to avoid the crime and failing schools that blacks bring.  Blacks move into the ready-made homes, whites go out and build new homes farther away from the blacks and the entire cycle begins again.   It’s like musical chairs, I wonder when the music is going to stop???

  • Detroit_WASP

LOL….that Amish milk is great stuff.  I could see some bearded farmers doing a horse drawn  drive-by to protect their turff (pastures).

    • We have Amish and Mennonites around here… peaceful folk.  I am proud to have them as neighbors.

For some reason, the .gov thugs have gone after rural folk for selling unpasteurized milk… can you IMAGINE throwing some old Mennonite or Amish grandmother in the clink for trying to make ends meet?

      • However, the illegal invading mestizo, selling tacos on the street corner, is free from inquiry from the same government. Funny how that works…

  • Detroit_WASP

“% Black isn’t the only predictor of violent crime in any case.”  Agreed, but it is the single best indicator.  I believe Jared Taylor said that in a video I watched on YouTube.

  • frmore

These are all so chocolate-concentrated, it’s like heavy syrup. A heavy syrup skid-marked full of socially-engineered hyper-diversity, high fructose corn syrup, grape drink, penicillin-resistant gonorrhea and AIDS-blistering forced sodomy. Now let the good times roll. It’s Juneteenth!

  • robinbishop34

I was born and raised in Thousand Oaks until my pre teens when my father’s job transferred us to St. Louis. We lived in lily white West County and never, and I mean never did we feel unsafe.

Now don’t get me wrong, parts of the city are war zones but the statistics that show us as consistently one of the most unsafe cities comes from the fact that St. Louis city and St. Louis county are two separate entities and this is very unusual. The city does not reside in the county so crime statistics gathered only come from ‘city’ records and do not include the nearly 80 county munincapalities, most of which are safe (not including north county). If you were to include the metropolitan area I think the crime rate is around 110th in the country.

The city population of 320K used to be over a million in the late 50’s. The rest of the 2.2 million law abiding whites in the neighboring suburbs have had the albatross of ‘most dangerous’ city slung around their necks for the last decade and it’s embarrassing.

    •  Now we’re heading back into a circular argument.  I have never really believed that St. Louis as in the city proper is the most dangerous city of 100k+ population in the country.  It’s 10 PM at night, and you have a choice to be dropped out of an airplane and land in either St. Louis or Detroit, and you must pick one.  You’re all but certain to land in a ghetto if you pick Detroit:  Neighborhoods like Boston-Edison are the only ones like them in Detroit.  If you pick St. Louis, yeah, you could wind up on Grand and “Nachul Bidge,” and that would be a bad thing.  But you could also land on Jamieson and Eichelberger.

St. Louis would never crack the top ten of dangerous cities if all other cities’ PDs kept crime stats as accurately as St. Louis’s.

      • robinbishop34

I certainly don’t want to give the impression that the city doesn’t have bad problems but It grosses me out when the majority of the area is stained with that sordid distinction. Having said that I just saw on the news where a local black guy ordered his white wife in the bathroom, doused her with gasoline, and lit her on fire. I just changed the channel.

      • Hey QD .. are these stats cited in this article for the metro area or City Limits only?

        • City proper only. Notice in the ref. to St. Louis that it lists the population as 320k.

  • SLCain

One reason that the murder rate is lower is because of improvements in trauma medicine.   Shootings that would have been murders 40 years ago, are now just classed as assaults or attempted murders.

Consider Lee Harvey Oswald – shot once in the stomach, he was immediately raced to the hospital, but died.  If he were shot in the same way today under the same circumstances, he probably would have made it.

    • True.

Used to be, being gutshot was a death sentence.

      Nowadays, it’s just bragging rights…

The Democrat party needed more voters. More dependents.

So they brought them to town, regardless of criminal history and job skills.

I would imagine that if the North had only brought in the Blacks who no criminal history, and job skills, things would be better. But then they would not need to depend on the Democrat party.

Rush Limbaugh is in the end correct, that the cause of the demise of many American cities, is at root Big Government Liberalism practiced by the Democrats.
