18-Year-Old Bayonne Man Charged in Dawid Strucinski Assault Was Trying to Flee: Report

The 18-year-old who has been charged with taking part in the savage attack on a Bayonne man was ready to flee to upstate New York before his arrest, PIX 11 news reported on its website.

Derrick Hilton, 18, has been charged with rioting and endangering an injured victim in the July 3 attack on Dawid Strucinski, 22, on Broadway near 12th Street, Hudson Now first reported yesterday afternoon.

The website reported that Hilton expressed remorse for the family and the Strucinski, who recently graduated from Rutgers University and is planning on a career in law enforcement. Strucinski is in a coma at Jersey City Medical Center.

Hilton is the eighth suspect and the only adult arrested in the brutal attack that occurred at 3 a.m. on July 3 when Strucinski came to the aid of a friend who was being harassed by the group of 9 boys and 4 girls.

In May Hilton was arrested and charged with arson, burglary and drug possession in connection with a fire in a Bayonne High School classroom.
