21 Immigrants Detained After Police Chase Ends With Crash

Authorities detained 21 suspected undocumented immigrants after a police chase ended with a crash Monday evening.

A La Joya police officer attempted to stop a GMC Suburban on a traffic violation along Expressway 83 {snip}.

Police followed the vehicle east {snip}. The pursuit ended when the SUV crashed into a concrete pillar beneath an expressway overpass.

{snip} The suspected smuggler apparently fled the scene on foot.

Those detained are natives of Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador, police said. They were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
