CA Alert! State Senate Votes To Prohibit Localities From Fighting Illegal Immigration!

Californians for Population Stabilization, September 5, 2007

Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to veto AB 976! The California legislature has voted to remove the ability of local communities to combat the illegal immigration that afflicts them.

AB 976 would bar cities and counties from passing ordinances that prohibit property owners from renting properties to illegal aliens. It would also prohibit the property owners from making any inquiries regarding the immigration or citizenship status of a tenant.

Many states and local governments are passing laws to tackle the problem of illegal immigration in their communities, stepping up to the plate in the absence of the federal government to take action.

California, even though it has the greatest number of illegal immigrants, has refused to take action. Now the California legislature wants to take away the ability of cities and counties to oppose illegal immigration.

ACTION NEEDED

Governor Schwarzenegger needs to hear from you. Ask him to veto AB 976. Send a fax or an e-mail by entering your ZIP Code and clicking “Go!” Then you may want to follow with a call to the Governor’s office at 916-445-2841 and leave a phone message.
