Latino Group Warns it will Pull Schoolkids

Betty Reid, Arizona Republic (Phoenix), Jan. 7

A senior LULAC official has threatened to pull students out of Roosevelt School District’s Maxine O. Bush School if his demand to fire the principal is not met by Wednesday in spite of the formation of a group to address parent issues.

Members of Arizona’s League of United Latin American Citizens South Phoenix council had pressured district officials to remove Bush Principal Walsdorf Jenneford. LULAC accused the school administrator of failing to provide a safe school campus for Hispanic youngsters in the wake of an April 5, 2004, incident when a group of African-American girls beat up an eighth-grade Hispanic student, according to police reports.

Silverio Garcia, who oversees Arizona LULAC’s education division, said he would encourage parents to keep them away from Bush in protest, if Jenneford is not removed, and then put them in a temporary education facility in the area.
