LONDON: A new poll by the New Nation newspaper has named Jesus Christ as the number one black icon, after he was voted the most important person in black history.
According to the paper, Christ was black because the Bible itself has put him down as ‘dark skinned’ and also because in those times people of Bethlehem were a ‘mix of Ethiopians, Egyptians and Babylonians, all mixed with people from central Africa.’
The poll named the civil rights movement leader, Martin Luther King as the second most important black person, while talk show queen Oprah Winfrey and singing legend Bob Marley also made it to the list, reports the Sun .
The 10 most important black icons of all time were:
2—Dr Martin Luther King
10—Black inventors, including Garrett Morgan, George Washington Carver and Elijah McCoy
