U.S. Issues Travel Warning For Mexican City

TheDenverChannel, Sep. 24

HARLINGEN, Texas — A U.S. consul in Mexico is warning against traveling to Reynosa because of police harassment and cash machine robberies.

Reynosa is about eight miles south of McAllen, Texas.

U.S. Consul John Naland said criminal gangs are one thing, but when city police are alleged to be in gangs, it’s “a matter of real concern.” Reynosa officials could not be reached immediately for comment.

In the most serious case, a U.S. citizen was kidnapped and forced to make ATM withdrawals over a period of five days. He was released unharmed.
