New Section for Phone Directory

Richmond Times-Dispatch, Jul. 20

Verizon Communication’s Superpages will be a bit heavier when customers pick them up next year.

The state’s largest telecommunications company is implementing a new section of the phone directory devoted to businesses owned by women and minorities, which they see as a significant and fast-growing segment of the state’s economy.

“This is a great opportunity for extra exposure,” John McDonald, area president of Verizon Information Systems, said today at a luncheon at which Gov. Mark R. Warner spoke about the state’s efforts to assist women- and minority-owned businesses.

Richmond will be the first Virginia market for the new section, but company general sales manager.

Marlene Moore said there are plans for the section to come to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., among other locations.

The new section will debut in January.
