Library Seminar to Discuss Racial Privilege Feb. 2 in Toms River

The Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library (101 Washington Street) will present a seminar entitled White Privilege 101 6:30 p.m. Monday Feb. 2.
The seminar will be led by Art Munin, Ph. D., Chicago. It will examine how the power of white privilege has played a major part in history and perpetuated itself by denying its own existence. His seminar will examine how that privilege has evolved, its significance, and how people can derail it.
The program is cosponsored by the Ocean County Human Relations Council and the Diversity Committee of the Ocean County Library.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

Munin was born on the south side of Chicago and grew up in a middle-class neighborhood made up of Chicago police officers, firefighters and blue collar families. Although raised in one of the most diverse cities in the country his surroundings were largely segregated by race. He draws upon this experience of being raised in an area that still daily grapples with racism and discrimination.
Munin now lives on Chicago’s North Side and is the Assistant Dean of Students at DePaul University.
