The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was fatally shot by two North Charleston teens late Monday.
Chadwick Garrett, a 45-year-old North Charleston resident, died around 11:35 p.m. at the scene near Durant Avenue and North Jimtown Drive, the coroner’s office said.
Deon Antonio Frasier, 17, and Michael Odell Anthony Dupree-Tyler, 19, face murder charges in connection with the shooting.
North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Garrett was helping the suspects pull a Dodge Durango out of a ditch. The teens robbed and shot Garrett after he freed the SUV.
Investigators arrested Frasier and Dupree-Tyler at an apartment at the Reserve at Ashley River Apartments, 6520 Dorchester Road, which is about 6 miles away from the scene. Records show they were booked into jail early Tuesday.
Frasier is also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The suspects are expected to appear in court for a bond hearing Tuesday.
Court records show Frasier was free on $10,000 bail for possession of a stolen vehicle. That case is pending in Charleston County.
