Judge Blocks New Rules for Licenses, IDs in Texas

More news stories on Immigration Law

AP, April 9, 2009

A judge has blocked the Texas Department of Public Safety from enforcing rules that prevent immigrants from obtaining driver’s licenses and identification cards.

Judge Orlinda L. Naranjo ruled Thursday that the department acted outside its authority when it adopted rules that deny cards and licenses to people with visas valid for less than a year.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund had sued for a temporary injunction on behalf of five immigrants and a Lewisville landscaping business that employs seasonal foreign workers.

Overyturned by a judge, of course.

Meanwhile, were you aware that no matter how many years you have been licensed in your state, you have to now PROVE who you are again when you get your licenses renewed by showing a birth certificate and other I.D.?

Judge Orlinda L. Naranjo

That’s all you need to know about this situation.

The TDPS is continuing with this policy which was granted by the Texas legislature. The judge is the one who acted outside authority for purely ethnic (she’s Hispanic) and political reasons. .

I’ve never even heard of a state that would issue a license or ID to a foreign national on a visa. I’m fairly sure every state in the union REQUIRES even U.S citizens to prove residency in that state before they issue an ID or a license.

Is there some special rule for illegal immigrants that doesn’t apply to citizens or lawful permanent residents? Perhaps its along the same lines as the in-state tuition, voting rights or get-out-of-jail-free cards that so many states offer exclusively to illegal aliens these days.

As I’ve said before. The judges are our new ruling class.
