The Atlanta police officer accused of throwing a woman to the ground at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been dismissed.

Police Chief Richard Pennington decided to fire him following an Internal Affairs investigation which lasted six months.

Terrance Alexander, the officer, tried to convince the chief that he deserved to keep his job.

From the beginning, he insisted he was the victim of an angry driver, Diana Barnes, who hit him with her side-view mirror after he ordered her to move her SUV.

Pennington, however, sided with Internal Affairs investigators who determined Alexander used excessive force when he picked Barnes up and flipped her over onto the pavement in November of 2004.
