New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said two improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, were lit outside Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s official residence, on March 7 and a third possible homemade explosive was found in a nearby vehicle.<\/p>\n
One of the devices, Tisch said, contained TATP, “a dangerous and highly volatile homemade explosive that has been used in IED attacks around the world.”<\/p>\n
Two people, Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, were taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged on March 9, Tisch said.<\/p>\n
The devices were ignited as protesters and counterprotesters squared off during a rally organized and led by conservative influencer Jake Lang. The protest, titled “Stop the Islamic Takeover of New York City,” took place near the Manhattan home of Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor.<\/p>\n
Balat and Kayumi, who officials described as counterprotesters, were seen on video throwing a pair of explosive devices toward the protesters, Mamdani said. He described the devices as being made “to injure, maim, or worse.”<\/p>\n

reportedly from Turkey but who became naturalized citizens in 2017, was arrested Saturday along with 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi after a homemade \u201cMother of Satan\u201d bomb was thrown at protesters outside New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s Upper East Side residence.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement sources told The Post that Balat used the Arabic phrase \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d (God is Great) after his police interview.<\/p>\n<p>Balat, a student in the Neshaminy School District in Pennsylvania, was allegedly recorded on a police body camera after his arrest saying that when someone insults the name of the prophet Muhammad, \u201cWe take action,\u201d a law enforcement source said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked during his police interview why he carried out the failed attack, Kayumi By the time Mr. Trump returned to the White House last year, he had established himself as a steadfast MAGA loyalist and an indispensable Capitol Hill ally to a president who seems to prize fealty above almost anything else.<\/p>\n<p>His political evolution culminated on Thursday, when Mr. Trump tapped Mr. Mullin to replace Kristi Noem as his homeland security secretary. {snip}<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mullin does not fit the traditional mold for a cabinet secretary. He has never held a prominent party leadership role. He has not served on any of the congressional committees that directly oversee the Homeland Security Department or immigration enforcement. He has no law enforcement experience, and before running for Congress, he had never worked in government.<\/p>\n<p>But in Mr. Trump\u2019s Washington, none of those things matter. What does is that, in his short Senate career, Mr. Mullin has become the senator perhaps mostly closely aligned with the president. By his own account, he talks to Mr. Trump often, and Republican and Democratic senators alike see him as a key link to the White House. Drawing on his House experience, he has fostered discussions between the chambers to help advance Mr. Trump\u2019s legislative priorities. He has vocally endorsed the president\u2019s hard-line immigration policies, and he has frequently echoed Mr. Trump\u2019s skepticism and falsehoods about election integrity.<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mullin was elected to the House in 2012, when the anti-elite ethos of the Tea Party movement propelled outsider candidates across the country. At the time, Mr. Mullin hosted a home improvement radio show and ran his business, Mullin Plumbing. The company ran regular television and radio commercials that featured Mr. Mullin introducing himself \u2014 \u201cHi, I\u2019m Markwayne Mullin\u201d \u2014 to the public.<\/p>\n<p>His campaign website hammered home his disdain for Washington. Visitors were greeted by a photo of a genial Mr. Mullin next to the phrase \u201cnot a politician.\u201d If they clicked, his biography was headlined: \u201cA rancher. A businessman. Not a politician!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>Despite his own background, Mr. Mullin did not initially gravitate to the outsider businessman in the 2016 presidential race. During the primary election, he instead endorsed Senator Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n<p>But after Mr. Trump steamrolled the field, Mr. Mullin joined Republicans in lining up behind him. A citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Mr. Mullin joined a Trump campaign outreach effort to Native American voters. As the president began reshaping the party during his first term, Mr. Mullin was among his most reliable backers, consistently voting with him.<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mullin later said he had witnessed a Capitol Police officer shooting and killing Ashli Babbitt, one of the rioters who tried to rush into the House chamber as lawmakers cowered inside and rushed to escape, fearing for their lives. He later defended the officer\u2019s actions, saying he had \u201csaved other people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>His alignment with Mr. Trump\u2019s policies remains strong, particularly around an aggressive approach to immigration. In 2024, at Mr. Trump\u2019s behest, he voted to sink a bipartisan border bill that his Oklahoma colleague, Senator James Lankford, had criticise Islam, the communities secretary has said.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Reed told the BBC he believes a new definition of “anti-Muslim hostility” included in the government’s social cohesion plan finds the right balance.<\/p>\n<p>The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) last year raised concerns that a new definition risked creating a “chilling effect” on freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>The social cohesion plan, which will be published on Monday, also includes measures aimed at promoting integration and tackling “extremist influence” in institutions, such as charities and universities.<\/p>\n<p>An independent group, led by former Conservative minister Dominic Grieve, was established by the government last year to provide advice on a definition of “anti-Muslim hatred\/Islamophobia”.<\/p>\n<p>This was in response to what the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government called the “concerning rise in anti-Muslim hate crime, which has reached record levels”.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the BBC saw a draft definition which did not include the term “Islamophobia”.<\/p>\n<p>The definition is non-statutory, meaning it is not set in law or legally binding, but will provide guidance to public bodies on what constitutes unacceptable treatment of Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>During the consultation, the EHRC said a new definition could cause “further harm to community cohesion if it is perceived as a threat to freedom of expression”.<\/p>\n<p>Reed said “if you can’t describe a problem you can’t do anything about it” as he defended the development of the final definition, which has yet to be published.<\/p>\n<p>Asked why he had ignored the EHRC’s concerns, Reed told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I didn’t ignore it, I share those concerns actually I am a rarely-mass-attending, cultural Catholic. Pew research classifies me as one of the 43 percent of people raised Catholic in the US who have lapsed.<\/p>\n<p>Many practicing Catholics have their faith, community, schools, history, statues, traditions, and that\u2019s enough for them. Those who attend mass regularly find it deeply meaningful. I know many who would say, \u201cI support the Catholic mission by believing in peace and justice,\u201d a position that would apply to most secular charitable organizations. This lets them do something I can\u2019t: overlook the damage the church of my youth is doing to America and Europe by supporting immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Malkin explained this in her book, <em>Open Borders, Inc., <\/em>in Chapter 3, \u201cUnholy Alliance: The Pope, Catholic Bishops, And Amnesty Profiteers.\u201d No recent Pope has come out explicitly in favor of open borders, but most of them condone the catastrophic flood of third-worlders into Europe and America.<\/p>\n<p>The new, American Pope, Leo XIV, is much the same. Not long ago, he called Donald Trump\u2019s immigration policies \u201cextremely disrespectful\u201d \u2014 this from a guy who lives in a walled city with his own private army. He <a href=\"https:\/\/cmsny.org\/statement-on-the-111th-world-day-of-migrants-and-refugees\/\">has called migrants<\/a> \u201cmissionaries of hope\u201d and a \u201cdivine blessing\u201d to those who receive them. Since 2019, right in St. Peter\u2019s Square, there has been a sculpture called <em>Angels Unawares<\/em> of 140 people from everywhere, crammed into a boat. (Credit Image: \u00a9 Valeria Ferraro\/SOPA Images via ZUMA Press Wire)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A few practicing Catholics with whom I discuss this shake their heads and say my objections are a flimsy pretext for passing on Sundays. \u201cYou\u2019re not practicing your faith because of <em>that<\/em>?\u201d Would they have felt the same way about Pius XII not publicly condemning Nazism in the 1940s?<\/p>\n<p>Islam is the most dangerous head on the Hydra. Europe is on the way to ruin, with Christianity walking the Vatican-supported plank right behind it. Rome\u2019s outreach to Islam includes \u201cfostering fraternal dialogue, mutual respect, shared responsibility for peace,\u201d along with Papal visits, joint Catholic-Islam Iftar dinners, and dedicated prayer spaces for Muslims in the Vatican Library.<\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo recently visited Turkey, where President Recep Erdo\u011fan\u2019s government persecutes the Greek Orthodox Church. Its members have declined from 100,000 in the 1950s to approximately 2,000\u20132,500 today \u2014 the brink of extinction. This is the same Mr. Erdo\u011fan who said, “Democracy is like a train, we will get off once the destination is reached.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minneapolis is being hijacked by Somalis with the help of Catholic Church NGOs and leftist American politicians. These Catholic NGOs resettle immigrants all over America, give them legal protection, and are heavily dependent on government subsidies \u2014 though the Trump administration is trying to cut that off. Michelle Malkin wrote: \u201cThe open-borders business of the Catholic church is less about love, hope, faith, or charity than it is about cold, hard cash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I recently came across a 2000 <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicvote.org\/cardinal-giacomo-biffi-on-immigration\/\">address<\/a> on the Muslim threat by Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, then Archbishop of Bologna:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Muslims \u2014 in their great majority and with some exceptions \u2014 arrive among us intending to remain, individually and collectively, extraneous to our \u201chumanity\u201d in what is most essential, most precious, most \u201csecularly\u201d indispensable: more or less explicitly, they come to us well decided to remain substantially \u201cdifferent,\u201d in the expectation of making all of us substantially like them.<\/p>\n<p>They have a form of different food (and up to here not bad), a different day off, a right to a family incompatible with ours, a conception of the woman very distant from ours (to the point of practicing polygamy). Above all, they have a rigorously integralist vision of public life, as the perfect identification between religion and politics as part of their indubitable and undeniable faith, even though they wait prudently before showing it to be preponderant. It is not then the men of the Church, but the modern Western States that must come to terms with this.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, neither secularists nor Catholics appear to have yet grasped that the drama is unfolding. Secularists hold the Church hostage in all ways without realizing that they are fighting the strongest inspirer and most valid defender of Western civilization and its values of rationalism and freedom. They might realize it too late. \u201cCatholics,\u201d letting the knowledge of the truth they possess fade and substituting apostolic anxiety with the pure and simple dialogue at all costs, unconsciously prepare themselves (humanly speaking) for their own extinction. The hope is that the gravity of the situation might at a certain moment lead to an efficacious reawakening of both reason and the ancient faith.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How often do you hear such a sensible statement from a prominent Catholic? Cardinal Biffi died at age 87 in 2015. So, who\u2019s left?<\/p>\n<p>American Cardinal Raymond L. Burke, 76, is a rare conservative voice. As he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncronline.org\/news\/limiting-muslim-immigration-patriotic-us-cardinal-says\">noted in 2019<\/a>: \u201cTo resist large-scale Muslim immigration in my judgment is to be responsible. Islam believes itself to be destined to rule the world. . . . You don\u2019t have to be a rocket scientist to see what has happened in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For now, I have no Catholic home as a white, Western civilization and European heritage preservationist. To the contrary, I see the Catholic Church working vigorously, along with other leftists and globalists, to undermine my European heritage. Clearly, the Catholic Church does not believe a civilization has the right to preserve its ethnic-cultural continuity unless it is non-white.<\/p>\n<p>As Europe ceases to be the center of Catholic growth and becomes more secularized, the Church does nothing to defend its Christian heritage or cultural identity. Popes Benedict XVI and John Paul II were the last Popes to defend Europe as the home of the faith. Instead, the church now pours enormous efforts and resources into high-growth countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia, a clear alignment with immigration priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Expanding into countries under the auspices of \u201cuniversal human dignity\u201d is better for \u201cbusiness\u201d and building a power base than defending the culture that fostered, transformed, empowered, and championed the Church. The spread of Christianity to other parts of the world is a good thing; the Catholic church ingratiating itself with those populations that now occupy \u201c\u2018written off\u201d parts of the West is not. This ingratiation comes in the form of organizing \u201cnewcomer\u201d third-world church groups that cater to their distinctness; providing social support networks, refugee assistance programs, legal aid and housing; and lobbying on behalf of these populations at the expense of whites.<\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Church encourages African and Asian cultures to remain intact even within the West, and works against the preservation of European and American cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Malkin was right:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Because of everything I have uncovered about the Vatican, its border-bashing bishops, and sprawling open-borders network, I can no longer trust that donations I made to the Catholic Church will be used in a lawful manner that protects our freedom and posterity. I refuse to put my hard-earned money in collection baskets whose contents will end up in the hands of the Trump-deranged cultural Marxists in white collars.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Catholic Church does abundant good at the parish level, but it (along with mainstream Protestant denominations) is undermining the nation. Rome fiddles while the Western world burns. The Vatican should heed the words of Winston Churchill: \u201cAn appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Without the brilliance of Western countries and white people, Christianity would never have grown as it did. The Catholic Church could never have become the largest denomination of the largest religion in the world without Constantine the Great; Emperor Theodosius I; the Roman Empire\u2019s administrative structure of roads, communication and bishops in administrative roles of the cities; missionary activity of the Middle Ages; monasticism; Charlemagne; the unifying structure of the Western Church across warring kingdoms of Europe; scholasticism; the Crusades; the printing press; Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals; colonies and missions; Christianity\u2019s schools and hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>But what does the Vatican do for the culture and people who cradled, defended, protected, and contributed so mightily to its mission? Nothing; it betrays us, using our own money. I am reminded of Michael Corleone in <em>The Godfather Part II<\/em>: \u201cThe worst part about betrayal is that it never comes from an enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Love toward oneself remains a fundamental Christian principle. The case also resulted in the permanent closure of the fake substance abuse facility that carried out the crime, a $15 Million dollar fine, and the seizure of more than $6 Million in criminal proceeds, including cash, cars, and homes.<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, Keke Komeko Johnson, 53, of Goldsboro; Francine Sims Super, 64, of Kinston; Brandon Eugene Sims, 40, of Manvel, Texas; and Kimberly Mable Sims, 39, of Snow Hill; operated Life Touch, LLC, a purported substance abuse facility operating in Kinston and Goldsboro, and 1st Choice Healthcare Services, a urine drug screening company. Between 2018 and 2023, Inmates Johnson and Super oversaw payments of more than $1 Million in illegal kickbacks to Life Touch\u2019s Medicaid patients, who were drug users. They paid these kickbacks to lure patients to show up for costly substance abuse and lab services that Inmate Johnson billed to Medicaid on behalf of Life Touch and 1st Choice. Inmate Sims, Inmate Super\u2019s daughter, owned 1st Choice Healthcare, and paid Medicaid kickbacks to Inmates Super and Johnson for fake lab services ordered by Life Touch, LLC. Meanwhile, Inmate Brandon Sims, who owned Life Touch and resided in Texas, received Millions in illegal proceeds from the Life Touch operation, but failed to file or pay taxes on that money. On August 14, 2025, Inmate Johnson pleaded guilty to a health care fraud conspiracy, including making and receiving illegal payments, making and using materially false documents, and failing to file a tax return.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge sentenced Inmate Super, the \u201cKinston office manager,\u201d to six years in federal prison, and to pay $15,286,912.91 in restitution to North Carolina Medicaid and $373,810.00 to the IRS. She previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pay illegal kickbacks, healthcare fraud, and making and using materially false documents. She also pleaded guilty to failure to file a tax return.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge sentenced Inmate Kimberly Sims to two years in federal prison and to pay $1,845,276.95 in restitution to North Carolina Medicaid and $207,383.00 to the IRS. She previously pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to paying illegal kickbacks, healthcare fraud, making and using materially false documents, and filing a false tax return.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge sentenced Life Touch, LLC, to pay a $15 Million fine, to dissolve, and serve five years of probation and repay $12,762,511.30 in restitution to the North Carolina Medicaid program. Life Touch, LLC, previously pleaded guilty to health care fraud, and the owner, Inmate Brandon Sims pleaded guilty to failing to file federal tax returns. The Judge sentenced Inmate Brandon Sims to two and a half years and six months in federal prison, and to pay $1,892,919.40 in restitution to the IRS.
