Student Hung ‘White’ and ‘Colored’ Signs to ‘Make a Point’

Jennifer Kabbany, College Fix, September 2, 2014

The student who hung “White Only” and “Colored” signs on doors and water fountains in a dormitory at Sweet Briar College last Thursday isn’t a racist–she’s a social justice crusader trying to “make a point.”

On Thursday, the president of Sweet Briar College, an all-female liberal arts college in Virginia, sent out a gravely worded announcement about the incident.

“Sometime between 8 and 10:30 this morning, four labels, made with a label-maker, were affixed to doors and the water cooler on the fourth floor of Meta Glass,” wrote President James Jones. “As difficult as this is to believe, two of the labels read ‘White Only,’ and two ‘Colored.’ ”

Jones goes on to note that:

. . . we [may] have among us someone who is essentially bigoted and mean-spirited who would recall the Jim Crow days of separation, mirroring the apartheid of South Africa that summoned the calm voice of reason of Nelson Mandela to decry hatred and to seek to change one’s immediate environment for the better.

On the other, perhaps more theoretically positive: Someone . . . sought to use the old, abusive words to remind us that while such terms were part of the historical past, some of the emotions lurking behind the words might still linger in a few.

At any rate, the vandal emailed in a mea culpa of sorts to President Jones a day later which read in part:

While posting these extremely hurtful labels, I had one thing in mind. My mission was to show others that words can still have an extreme impact, and the past still resonates with us all. While moving forward, we can never really shake the past. The past is a part of us and we are a part of the past. While they did not necessarily know this before, we are all equal and nobody deserves to be treated unfairly. I was trying to make a point, but the point ended up ‘making me’ . . . now everyone has ideas on what type of person that I am. I am none of these things . . . . I am myself, I am caring and kind. I am the last person who would ever intentionally hurt someone else, but most of all, I am sorry!

In response, President Jones has asked her to turn herself in and adds that her hoax was well intentioned.

What has occurred on our College campus since Thursday morning points directly to the fact that sometimes our actions and words, no matter how well intentioned, backfire unexpectedly and inflict pain, hurt, and suffering upon others around us.

The vandalism was justified in part by President Jones in his two letters to the campus community because the school hosted a play during freshman orientation called “In Sweet Remembrance” that delved into the 113-year-old college’s segregated past. The signs were hung the day after the play debuted on campus.

  • Meanwhile, black graduations and Hispanic Student Unions are celebrated and the hypocrisy is lost on the sheeple.

  • If I were as obsessed with sex as these people are with “racial injustice,” I’d be in prison. For those like president Jones, I would say a mental hospital might be necessary to cure him of his obsession.

“The calm voice of reason of Nelson Mandela …” Me thinks that Jones is a a few cards short of a deck.

    • TruthBeTold

She’s been watching Melissa Harris-Perry on MSNBC.

    • Nancy

That was the one particularly laughable line that jumped out at me, too. My first thought was: “…calm voice of reason of Nelson Mandela? What history book is he reading?”

      Then I remembered.

      • Fathercoughlin

He wanted to make a Mandela reference. He was doing the best he could.But..what? No Martin Luther King? Is Kingsy too old fashioned? What will future school presidents say? “Let us seek justice,as Al Sharpton wouldve wanted..” “Let the calm wisdom of Eric Holder guide us…”

        • LHathaway

To me the amusing thing was they had to tie it together.

      • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

To a sociopathic Negro, sure, Nelson Hitler Mandela, purveyor of Genocide, must be the voice of reason. He is undoubtedly a hero to monsters like Trayvon Martin’s mother, who is devoid of guilt or shame regarding the murderous intentions that caused Zimmerman to pull the trigger on her son. Such monsters find The Boer Genocide to be just fine. This is why Southerners kept them segregated years ago, and reinforced them knowing their place. Not doing so opens the door on the sadistic sociopathy that is endemic amongst Negroes.

        • bilderbuster

          Nelson “Hitler” Mandela???
What in the world could they possibly have in common?

    • JSS

They invoke MLK, Nelson Mandela, Jim Crow, apartheid etc the way our ancestors used to invoke Christ, the saints, and the crucifixion. Modern Liberalism is just a new empty religion for Whites.

      • LHathaway

lol, ‘the spirit of Jesus helped me tie my shoes together this morning. . . ‘
I hope my joke was not blasphemous.

    • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

Exactly. Calm voice of reason of Nelson Mandela?? This is as preposterous as referring to Al Sharpton as a “calm voice of reason”. Mandela supported the genocide of Whites. The Boer Genocide is something that a decent human being decries, not supports, as Mandela did. Mandela made Herr Hitler look like Mister Rogers with his wanton, boundless, sociopathic hatred of Whites. Mandela was a criminal, and the truth about him needs to be seen by Whites. Apartheid was essential to the survival of White South Africans. Mandela is to blame for The Boer Genocide.

      • bilderbuster

There you go with the Mandela/Hitler reference again.
Your meds are starting to wear off.
Hitler loved the Boers, hated communists and it was rumored that he was not very fond of Jewish people either.
Mandela’s best friend was African National Congress (ANC) member and African Communist Party (ACP) member Joe Slovo aka Yossel Mashel Slovo. Slovo was a Lithuanian born Jew who fought against the Germans while serving in the Red Army and together Slovo and Mandela plotted the murders of Whites and the overthrow of the White South African government.

    • Reverend Bacon

Yes, I think that if this anti-white “crusader” had adopted the calm voice of reason of Mandela, and just necklaced everyone who disagreed with her, it would have been much more amusing.

Even the ostriches would have had to do something about it- like make her stay after school and clean erasers, at the very least.

  • MekongDelta69

    “she’s a social justice crusader”

    Translation: A mental defective.

    “[She] isn’t a racist.”

    Oh God forbid – NOOOOO.

“the calm voice of reason of Nelson Mandela”

Mandela was a White-hating black communist.

  • Christorchaos

Let the white guilt season begin!

    • R L Buds

Everyday is white guilt day, celebrate with a Peeps mini.

  • to “make a point”

They spelled “start a hoax” wrong.

    Easily removable signs is “vandalism?”

    • “Easily removable signs is ‘vandalism’?”

Sure, and while we’re at it, strong-arm robbery of a liquor store is a “harangue” and breaking a cop’s eye-socket is “jay-walking”. Also, sucker-punching a neighborhood watch member and then slamming his head repeatedly into the pavement is “walking home with Skittles and tea.”

As a thought-experiment, what do you suppose would happen to one of us if we attempted to make a similar “point”?

  • TruthBeTold

    Keep the hate alive

Another ‘teachable’ moment’. Only no one seems to me learning the right lesson including President Jones.

  • Truthseeker

Oh, the narcissism. John Derbyshire once used a term that I thought was perfect to describe these people’s mentality: “Preening racial rectitude.” I can almost hear them bragging about how “not-a-racist” they are. It’s all so phony, unnecessary, and, truth be told, pathetic.

    • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

Pathetic indeed. This is a Women’s Liberal Arts college, though, so we know that this is Femi-Nazi central, a place that would make Hillary Clinton cackle with glee as White males are slandered and thrown under the bus at every opportunity.

      • LHathaway

At least something unites the girls there.

  • Frank_DeScushin

“My mission was to show others that words can still have an extreme impact, and the past still resonates with us all.”

First, of course the past is going to continue to resonate if you fools endlessly bring it up all day, everyday. Is it even the past if that’s all we talk about in the present?

Second, the first two words of her statement say it all: “my mission”. So many young people have been brainwashed into believing that their paramount mission, greater than any possible mission they could have in life, is eradicating some supposed white racism that allegedly is responsible for all minority woes. To many white people this mission is more important than raising a family.

  • Samuel_Morton

“Sometimes our actions and words, no matter how well intentioned, backfire unexpectedly and inflict pain, hurt, and suffering upon others around us.”

    Should read:

“At any moment, the actions and words of white people (and white people only), no matter how well intentioned, can be twisted by someone of any other race claiming that the words inflicted pain, hurt, and suffering, such that the white person should be ostracized and punished according to the desires of the offended.”

The intended lesson is that whites should know their place and never ever mention or notice racial issues, unless they have to do with whites being oppressive, bigoted, or otherwise evil.

The lesson to any sane person is that diversity doesn’t work.

    • LHathaway

Permit me a small re-write, “At any moment, the actions and words of white people (and white people only), no matter how well intentioned, no matter what they say, can be twisted by someone of any other race claiming that the words inflicted pain”

  • Tim_in_Indiana

While moving forward, we can never really shake the past. The past is a part of us and we are a part of the past

So is it okay for me to put up posters all around campus commemorating how, throughout history, whites have been on the receiving end of racial aggression—from Asians, Moslems, Mongols and others? Would that be okay with the race-baiting student? Or is that somehow “different?”

    • paul marchand

That’s different. Might mess up the extortion scheme from whites. Bucks.

    • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

Exactly. Wonder how much little Miss Social Justice has done about The Boer Genocide? My guess is nothing, and that She hasn’t even heard of it.

  • DiversityIsDeath

Did the troublemaker turn herself in? Or is she still hiding?

  • Hold the phone.

For two and a half hours, there were fake “white” and “colored” signs on the water fountains and on the doors of one floor of one dorm building at this school. To me, this is just a non-story which shouldn’t even illicit attention from anyone in the school’s administration. Yet somehow it needs a whole news story.

What would have been more appropriate are segregated facilities for heterosexual, lesbian and transgender.

  • IKUredux

I sincerely hope she is a “racist”. As a matter of fact, why don’t we take a page from her so called: “social justice crusader” handbook. Let us all engage in these acts. Labeling bathrooms “White” and drinking fountains:”White”. If caught, just claim to be a “social justice crusader”. If they confront you with internet comments diametrically opposed, well, then, say you had a “racial epiphany”. They lie. So should we. May I quote our enemies? “By any means necessary”. Never forget: We racially aware Whites are now the revolutionary force. We are out of step with the status quo. However, these mainstream, leftist, liberals continue to try to claim that they are the revolutionaries fighting the man. That is such a steaming pile. WE are the revolutionaries! We are the people fighting “the man”. The fact that the hollywood brainwashing has never stopped, indicates that the mainstream culture is part of the “status quo”. The thing is, despite their brainwashing, the Whites in this country are not convinced, deep down inside. However, the rape of White countries continues unabated. The status quo tells us that diversity is our strength. They tell us we are all global citizens. They tell us we are all equal. The majority of the world has bought this lie. THAT is why we are the revolutionaries. We know this to be the lie that it is. We are NOT equal. Period. And, we Whites should fight to the death against what is being done to us. Trust me, they mean to wipe us out. Either by outright genocide, or, more subtly, by the encouragement of miscegenation. Sorry, the leftists of the sixties are now TPTB. They are most certainly NOT the revolutionaries that they keep on insisting they are. Give me a break. Hey lefties! You are mainstream, dudes.

    • Charlie

The sad fact of the matter is, that, Whites are the most liberal and tolerant people on the planet…in many respects, the majority of Whites in America, are liberal, as evidenced by who is currently in the White House…in Europe, it’s even worse…probably 1 out of every 100 Whites, are “ethnically/ culturally aware”, while the remaining 99% are either apathetic, ignorant, or actually working on behalf of the Zionists to destroy the White race…

  • A Freespeechzone

Who the hell cares–blacks and liberals are always looking for an excuse to claim racism.

    No apologies.

    • LHathaway

Perhaps I shouldn’t bring it up, but it sometimes seems to me lefties are Glad the holocaust happened. That is if you believe it did.

  • bilderbuster

Someone should make a sign for the Admissions office to let everyone know that segregation is no longer enforced at Sweet Blair College that reads
‘Welcome to Sweet Blair College ! We Now Admit Colored Students!”.
They could put signs like that at the cafeteria too “We Now Serve Colored People”.

    • Fathercoughlin

At the black sorority cafeteria, they have a sign:We now serve white people”!!

  • Fathercoughlin

A few thoughts: President Jones. I bet he is very very close to his mother. Nomesayne? The notes, with their breathy Southern belle drama,”extremely hurtful”,”inflict pain hurt and suffering..”etc appear to me to be the work of the same person,i.e. President Jones! Look at how excerpts seem to be talking to each other as if this crackpot is having some kind of Tennesee Williams dialogue with himself.”We have someone among us who is…bigoted and meanspirited” “Now everyone has ideas on the type of person I am!” “…perhaps…someone thought to use the old abusive words to remind us…” “I am muyself,I am caring and kind.” And does a young college girl–even a grotesquerie as this girl is presented, use phrases like,”I tried to make the point..but the point made me”? WTF? “The past still resonates with us all…while moving forward we can never really shake the past.” ZZZZZZZ Sounds like a commencement speech from a wind bag. This guy is one for the books.

    • Fathercoughlin

I should add this nincompoop wriyes,”…four labels,MADE WITH A LABEL MAKER…” Who cares?? He ‘s proud of his little label maker??

      • Tim_in_Indiana

Yes, because we know that the original “white” and “colored” signs were made with a pocket label maker.

        • bilderbuster

According to the headline these signs were “Hung”.
Some racist must have lynched those stick on labels.

    • LHathaway

“I tried to make the point..but the point made me”, “The past still resonates with us all…while moving forward we can never really shake the past.”

It sounds like some kind of bad commercial.

    • bilderbuster

      You solved this mystery.
      He’s the culprit!
Everything from staging the ridiculous play seems to fit.
Besides, who else but a swishy male like him would own a label maker?

  • paul marchand

If it is a private college, they should have the right to separate accommodations.
Versus a government building or college.
Back in the 50s, when restaurants had a WHITE side and a BLACK side, blacks still went to that white restaurant rather than a black-owned one. Nobody forced them to.
If this college really DID have black facilities and white facilities, anybody would have the right to mock the college or to avoid going there.
But no one should have the right to FORCE a private person or organization to furnish anything to anybody.

    • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

Exactly. An expensive, quality Old Dominion college for Southern Belles should be specifically and intentionally all White. I’ll bet this was true of this school 50 years ago, and the superiority of our White race was touted with pride.

      • LHathaway

I can just see a female reader clicking on this story and thinking to themselves, “how can there be racism at the school, there are no men there”?

        • bilderbuster

Maybe one of them has an oppressive, racist, boyfriend?

      • paul marchand

Well, my point was not dogmatic “superiority”. My point is FREEDOM. Simply “just do it”, let “water seeks it’s level”. Property rights. Rights of association. Etc. BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, which the US courts, the so-called Civil Rights Act, the US DoJ, the EEOC, etc have STOLEN from whites, as the population perilously declines, PAYING for the “rights” of “entitlements” and jobs and everything else of minorities, who are in effect upon a pedestal.

  • Paleoconn

When I first tried the water from a colored fountain, I was disappointed to discover that it tasted no different. I realized that not only were we racist, but we were also incompetent.

    • bilderbuster

You can’t see, smell or taste racism.
But it’s everywhere there are White people.

  • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

What on earth has become of The Old Dominion?? Virginia used to be the land of the quintessential Southern Gentleman, a society displaying the best of Anglo-Celtic high culture. Now, they cannot even show proper respect for the memory of native son Robert E. Lee, and 15 year boys are unjustly upbraided for showing pride in their own heritage. The red counties of Appalachian Ohio and Western PA are more a part of Dixie now, so it seems, than The Old Dominion!! Virginia must be thoroughly overrun and swamped with Leftists from NYC and Massholechusetts who are egging Negroes on in their bullying and guiltmongering.

    • thomasdosborneii

Or is it that the state touches Washington, D.C.?

  • OHDeutscheKlezmerRebel

Wonder what state She was born in? My bets are on NY or Massachusetts. If not, Mommy and Daddy are from there, moved to Northern VA for DC jobs, and are trying to fight the war of Northern Aggression every chance they get, as if the past 150 years never came and went. They will noe be happy until every Confederate Flag and front license plate is gone from Virginia. They want The Old Dominion to resemble Newark or The Bronx.

  • M.

My first reaction right after seeing the two signs would be: “Finally! The dean read my 12 letters and petitions!”

  • Even though it was a hoax, it was a “teachable moment” and “raises awareness”.

    • LHathaway

The irony being her intention in posting the sign was to stir up hatred of whites?

  • glennm

shes an idiot, but most women are

    • Epiphany Strachan

Hey!! Point taken however…and as a woman I agree and am often frustrated with my peers. I find what makes “them” stupid are God – given qualities, compassion and nurturing…a desire to save the world or pity the weak and inferior. Feelings make you stupid and irrational. But we’re supposed to be this way- a balance to man, who’s qualities are supposed to be strength and virility; our right- brained, rational counterpart who has the occasional desire to kick the S***T out of something:) That said, and I ponder this often…white men have been systematically weakened, to the point that third- world minorities and women are running their country. I watch everyday as white men let illegals/ criminals be escorted into this country. These peoples are allowed to commit crimes against his white daughters with no repercussions. It’s no wonder these girls grow up to be idiots. Thank God my father is a strong man- he raised 2 very smart women;)

      • me

That’s why we need to repeal the 19th Amendment. Too many stupid, emotionally-driven, masochistic, low self-esteem White women out there that wouldn’t recognize minority hostility and anti-White criminals if they beat them over the head with it–literally.

      • M.

You just ignited my desire to kick the s*** out of something.

  • What a bizarre story. Let me try and get this straight……

……So a liberal school campus rakes up resentment and white guilt with a ‘play’ banging on about historical segregation, this then upsets some libtard enough to have a ‘moral crusade’ about the segregation that no longer even exists (by putting some removable labels on the water fountains), where she then gets dragged into accusations of there being ‘racists’ on the campus, to which she then explains herself as being a crusader for black justice (and white guilt), and the college presidents asks her to ‘hand herself in’ after upsetting blacks….

Wow, that has to be an example of some kind of mental disorder. However, it is more likely to have gone exactly as planned – and that is what it is all about, creating opportunities to preen oneself on “forgiveness” for our “white sins” and create opportunities to whip the white folks into more “guilt”.

    • bilderbuster

Either that or the little “anti-racist” hoaxer is scared she might have been caught on camera or someone will recognize that everything in her dorm room has been labeled from a label maker and turn her in as the campus racist.

  • bilderbuster

It could have been a traveling, “mean spirited and bigoted”, label maker wielding, racist prankster going from college to college “inflicting pain and hurt and suffering” wherever his label maker takes him.

  • evilsandmich

Probably amazed that she showed up at all.

  • R L Buds

They do get special treatment. I remember in my physics class a black kid showed up late if he came at all, failed all the quizes (the ones i saw anyway) and never knew what was going on in the labs. But somehow he passed with an A, WTF.

  • Annabelle Pettyjohn

Does this happen in Historically black colleges or only historically white colleges?

  • Annabelle Pettyjohn

Hate and Race have power……Blacks are raised to the protection and elite status of Jews;Hispanics are close behind. It is so chic to hate whites, denigrate them and hurt them both mentally and physically. The term “racist” is to blacks what the term “antisemitism” is to Jews; a cloak of invisibility; no one can say anything or do anything to a black or a Jew or someone is going to pay…..sometimes with their lives! Whites have no representation, no power and all civil rights have been stripped from white Americans. We are alone.

I’m 72. Back when I was in college 1960 to 1964 I met some Sweet Briar students. Back then the only blacks were the low level employees, kitchen and cleaning people. Sweet Briar even had maids to make the students beds, clean their rooms, do their laundry AND put it away.
I was surprised to see Sweet Briar has survived the upheavals of separate women’s colleges, multi cult, affirmative action etc.
Has there ever been a real hate crime on a college campus? I think not.
