Students Told to Disavow ‘American-Ness, Maleness, Whiteness, Heterosexuality’

Ryan Lovelace, The College Fix, November 27, 2012

A political science professor at Butler University asks students to disregard their “American-ness, maleness, whiteness, heterosexuality, middle-class status” when writing and speaking in the classroom—a practice the school’s arts and sciences dean defended as a way to negate students’ inherent prejudices.

The syllabus of the course at Butler, a small Midwestern liberal arts institution in Indianapolis, spells out that students should use “inclusive language” because it’s “a fundamental issue of social justice.”

“Language that is truly inclusive affirms sexuality, racial and ethnic backgrounds, stages of maturity, and degrees of limiting conditions,” the syllabus states, referencing a definition created by the United Church of Christ.

The syllabus of the class, called Political Science 201: Research and Analysis, goes on to ask students “to write and speak in a way that does not assume American-ness, maleness, whiteness, heterosexuality, middle-class status, etc. to be the norm.” It is taught by a black, female professor.

In an interview with The College Fix, Jay Howard, dean of Butler’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, denied this practice essentially presumes every student who walks through the door is a racist or misogynist.

Howard said the college he oversees does not want students to continue to harbor such assumptions without question, “but neither do we want to exclude the dominant group in society in our attempts to make sure that we’re leveling hierarchies.”

In twenty years, white people will no longer be the majority, but they will still be the largest ethnic group, Howard said. He said using inclusive language would help students prepare for a changing world as America becomes more diverse.

My name is Ryan Lovelace, and I dropped that politically correct political science class.

Clearly, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler University believes its students were raised as racist and misogynist homophobes who have grown to harbor many prejudices, a stance that is both offensive and hostile to any student’s ability to learn.

As a student at an institution predominantly focused on the liberal arts, I expected to hear professors express opinions different from my own. I did not expect to be judged before I ever walked through the door, and did not think I would be forced to agree with my teachers’ worldviews or suffer the consequences.

Being judged and forced to act a certain way is antithetical to how any institution of higher education should conduct itself.

As a journalism major, I will now strive to avoid the liberal arts college as much as possible, not because the college fails to provide its students with any practical knowledge, but because the college seeks to indoctrinate its students with a hostile paradigm that views people like me—an American, white, heterosexual male from a middle-class background—as evil; whitey-righty need not attend.

Affirmative action prof tells students, her way or the highway.

    so what’s new?

    • Sylvie

Why can’t these people just say ‘NO”? I’d walk out of the damned class!

    • Dear Lord, I can picture her: backside half as wide as a football field, legs shaped like virginia hams and breasts so large it looks like two watermelons wrestling under her blouse. Gets sweaty “real easy” and on hot days has to walk “real slow” to keep from making the chafing worse.

  • So, I’m going to spit on the ground if a white guy tells me he graduated from Butler.
I can already see the horror in his eyes, but I’ll bet the castrated drone isn’t going to do jack about it, isn’t he?

  • Jeb

I guess that makes me invisible..

  • I never attended college. Somehow, I feel very good about that. I’ll take my Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps over a college degree any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

    • Liberalsuck

Count yourself very lucky, my friend. I attended college, waste of money, loans to pay back, can’t find work in what I went to school for, etc. The only thing I learned was that capitalism was bad, whites are evil, Christianity is an evil religion, and people who dont like perverted lifestyles are just “mean bigots.”

    • Joseph

Newsflash: all of the military services are now the largest employers of minorities and Affirmative Action promoters. When did you get out, 1919?

      • Tim

“When did you get out.1919?” Reminds me of the old joke, “I haven`t had a drink since 1945! And it`s nearly 2100 now…”

      • You’re correct of course, but not grunt outfits in the Corps. That’s not their cup of tea. You know how blacks are when it comes to idea of actual effort. No, not 1919, but quite awhile ago. So long ago that there were no black officers.

    • Major

God Bless you…the Corp, God, Country, Family and your service…from an old retired Marine 04.

Will we allow this country this country that so many fought so bravely for…and died for…be overtaken by illegal, disenchanted, disgusting haters of America, all that is America, all that WAS America and be flushed down the progressive toilet?

By punks and pukes with AA degrees? By twerps with a sheepskin that says…”Professor”?

We don’t need to be in the crap holes of Iraq or Afghanistan…we need to be in the crap hole of America’s institutions to make our case and to make the pendulum swing the other way.

      • saxonsun

        You have allowed it.

  • Robert Binion

Well, I have a baccalaureate, too, and the hankering to badmouth every doggone thing that flits behind my eyes: petits fours and fried chicken, Harry Belafonte (except for “Love is a Gentle Thing”), flannel, roosters, male roosters, male heterosexual roosters, the North Temperate Zone and Book of Ecclesiastes, Pepsi, underwear with holes, cigars and Swiss cheese.
If disjunctive reason formed contemporary thought on race, Jared Taylor would be revered as a sage. But this is not so. Alex Kurtagic opines that circular thinking chills brainwashing, that allusion and metaphor cut through the cant. I think, he wants us to swing for the linguistic fence without fear of striking out. And since the pc crowd would rather be beaten than mocked, one must endeavor to make them objects of ridicule wherever English tongues wag.

  • Ulick

Blacks are the least inclusive people. They have their own student unions, their own awards shows, their own TV station, etc. When they are put in a hiring position, they almost exclusively hire other blacks. Why a white person would actually heed advice from a black person that whites need to be more inclusive without throwing the obvious truth back in the black person’s face is beyond me. Think and develop a backbone white people.

Yet many of you complain that Blacks want to integrate with Whites. You sound confused.

      • anmpr1

Reade, you must read closer since you obviously misunderstand. Blacks want to follow whites and then take from them. It has nothing to do with integrating in the sense of assimilation.

    • saxonsun

The fact that there are so many whites who take blacks seriously just proves we’ve had it.

Eventually, we’ll be down to the degradation of claw hammer politics. The re-election of the Negro guarantees it. They will be up to their antics as usual, and we’ll not be able to stand for their antics. As whites, we can only put up with so much from the negro masses before we react.

    • C_C_Conrad

      You got that right brother.

This essay and most comments illustrate how ready we are to surrender to utter absurdity. The best attackback is to stay in class, think through the underlying premises, and then “attack from the left.” The prog body of thought is so loaded with disordered categories of discourse that almost every item advanced by the professor can be shot down, not by logic (that train left the station 25 years ago) but by using the same ideas only more advanced than the professor uses them. Live a little, play with words, leave logic behind in a logic-free zone. Easy & fun A+

    • dd121

No, it’s not an easy A. If you openly disagree with these leftist idiots they’ll downgrade you to a C or worse. I’ve been there. What do you think they’ll do to you if they get real power?

      • Cesare

I disagree ! This taking the “let’s not make any waves approach” is why we have these problems in the first place.

    • David Ashton

Yes, this can be done sometimes, but the students need to be brighter and better read than the lecturers.

  • Tim_in_Indiana

In twenty years, white people will no longer be the majority, but they will still be the largest ethnic group, Howard said.

In other words, it will still be possible to pin on whites, white wickedness and white racism, all the problems of nonwhites for a looooong time to come. Forever, in fact.

That must be the not-so-hidden meaning of that statement, else why would he have brought it up?

Even when whites are the minority, they will still be worthy of no sympathy or understanding, since they will still be “the largest minority,” and therefore, the oppressors. The “us against them” (or should I say “them against us”) mentality all over again, from someone who pretends to be combatting it. Sickening.

    • Liberalsuck

That assumes many things in 20 years: Maybe we won’t be the same country, the nation will break up into racial enclaves/political enclaves/red state vs. blue state, whites might have more births, something may cause lots of whites from other nations to immigrate here like they used to, maybe lots of nonwhites will leave white nations, etc. Even still, the whites in the future will continue to grow angrier and they are ready if the increase in firearm and ammo sales are any indication.

    • carocaput

Will this number projection be true with four more years of Obama’s open flood gates?

    • Rodion Raskolnikov

Whites are the majority, the “dominant” group, even when they live in a city that’s 90% non-white. Also, minorities can’t be racist against the dominant group. The “dominant group” has “power + privilege” (they’re very bad!) and has no rights in the eyes of leftists. Minorities can do whatever they want to the diabolical “dominant group” (aka: white people) and if whitey complains they’re a bunch of bigoted racists. I’m taking Sociology right now and I’m struggling to understand all this pseudo-intellectual anti-white garbage.

  • C_C_Conrad

I am glad that these Frankfurt School creeps are coming right out in the open and saying what they mean clearly. It will go a long way to helping our side.

Why would any straight White Christian male take this bullying sow’s class in the first place? All it would get him is aggravation and a bad grade.

It’s sometimes useful to know what your mortal enemies think and teach. 😉

  • David Ashton

John Engelman’s “non-existent” and “imaginary” cultural marxism at work again, just as in Britain and elsewhere. Race, gender, class – “equality” and “diversity” – the same old stuff, the same old jargon, the same old practices, and the same old objectives.

  • Anonymous

I went through almost the same exact situation. I dropped the class also. I was confused how this Professor believed I had white privlidge- I said to him ” you have never met me before but you are making an assumption based on my race- you are being prejuidice.” He didn’t have anything to say back.

  • Eagle_Eyed

I wonder if the good professor will herself disavow living in a nation which was founded by White American men who had sex only with women. Perhaps a return home to Liberia would be best for her.

  • Anon

Why does the article not shame the professor by name? Her name is Robin Turner and here is her profile:

She can be emailed at [email protected].

    • StillModerated

Thank you, the first this article can now be corrected to read,”an assistant professor of political science ..”

I wonder which dubious institution of higher “larnin'” issued this fraud a worthless piece of paper. And I’d like to see this fool’s thesis.

Shame? She is a hero to all the anti-whites.

White history is taught to our children by those who were bested by white men and naturally feel that this was “unjust”. They aim to even the score. And then some. We share citizenship with our historical enemies.

  • IKantunderstand

Zowie! This new way of looking at the world? It’s going to help any fictional storytelling. The Count of whatever sired a baby out of wedlock! Who cares? Everybody has babies our of wedlock. OOH, the Count of Crisco is gay. So what. Nothing wrong with that. In point of fact, this new way of looking at the world has litterlly killed LITERATURE. I used to read old favorite authors, who never said anything political in their books, and now, they all manage to include some P.C. bulls—. You want to talk about conspiracy? I swear to God, the most popular authors in the country were forced to include P.C. crap and diversity.

  • Marxist deconstruction of language pure and simple.

Soon we’ll have the dictionary Orwell dreamed of.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

We just need to figure out a final solution for American-ness, maleness, Whiteness, heterosexuality, middle class status THEN we’ll have our utopian paradise!!

Ryan Lovelace writes: “Clearly, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler University believes its students were raised as racist and misogynist homophobes who have grown to harbor many prejudices, a stance that is both offensive and hostile to any student’s ability to learn.” In the original article he ends by saying: “Lastly, the idea that people have different views from mine is not what makes me uncomfortable. The idea that I must walk, talk and act as the liberal arts college pleases does. I’ll speak as I always have and conduct myself in the way I deem fit. I think paying $40,000 a year should give me that basic right.”

This young man is a prince among peasants. He is a rare find among the current generation of clueless, brainless youth marinated in multicultural mush. He is very articulate, and has a spine too. A very rare specimen of Euro-American manhood.

What this young man needs — what a lot of white college students need — is a college that is free from left-wing ideology. There needs to be a safe haven of non-leftist colleges for white students who feel harassed by left-wing teachers and the usual anti-white, pro-minority, multicultural yap. Such non-leftist, non-multicultural colleges could distinguish themselves as a safe haven for beleaguered conservative or nonconformist teachers and students fleeing from Educational Bolshevism.

  • anmpr1

A black “teaching” political science is an absurdity. It just shows how debased are educational system is, and how meaningless the social sciences have become. Blacks never created political institutions on their own, and those they’ve inherited from the white man, they have simply corrupted.

    • shmo123

Lost in all of this is the all too real probability that people far more intelligent and talented were passed up in order for this hack to get her position. A black academic is almost an oxymoron.

  • She be wanning us all ta’ talk like dis? No wha’m sayin’? It not cool talk like you’s been ta schoo’, when Shekwana and DuWayne not able talk so good.

It costs $43,000 a year to attend that university.

Yale costs just as much. Stanford is less than 1/3 the cost. What a raping.

  • The UCC is no more Christian, than I am Buddhist. As well, Butler is a sham institution, and that B***h should be fired from her job, her tenure revoked, and her degrees nullified.

She is preacing overt genocide by ideology of the White race. Can we say ‘H8’r’?
