If you haven’t subscribed to American Renaissance, here’s what you’re missing in the December 2009 issue:
Why the West Dominated: Retired professor Steven Farron offers an explanation for the cultural and scientific dominance of Europeans based on two key traits he finds absent in non-Western civilizations — interest in other races and cultures, and a introspection that tends toward self-criticism. Prof. Farron draws from the experiences of the Jesuit scientist and missionary Matteo Ricci to demonstrate how thoroughly the West had surpassed China in science and industry by the 1500s, and notes especially the bias and closed-mindedness the Chinese showed against all things foreign compared to European interest in Muslim and Oriental cultures. He then cites numerous examples of the European tendency to self-criticism (and glorification of the “other”), which, far from being a recent development, was present even among ancient Greeks and Romans. Prof. Farron believes that while this trait was important in the development of Western thought, with mass Third World immigration it could prove our undoing.
In The Origins of the British People, freelance writer and historian H.A. Scott Trask reviews Saxons, Vikings, Celts: The Genetic Roots of Britain and Ireland, by Prof. Bryan Sykes, who directed the Oxford Genetic Atlas Project. This book resulted from analyses of tens of thousands of DNA samples throughout Great Britain that provide an historical sketch of the genetic roots of ethnic Britons. After analyzing the data, Prof. Sykes found a core of truth in many of the legends of the origins of the British people handed down over generations. Dr. Trask summarizes the key findings of this important research.
Implicitly White, Explicitly Anti-White: Immigration activist Ellison Lodge examines three “implicitly” white institutions — country music, NASCAR and the Republican Party. Noting that each has its roots, and its base, in white America, Mr. Lodge shows how all three are turning against the very group that made them prosper.
Plus, Third World refugees resettling the West, illegals and the census, black legislators under scrutiny for ethics violations, and more!
