Terror Arrest in Paris After Car Full of Gas Cylinders Found Parked Next to Notre Dame in Potential ‘Trial Run’

Chloe Chaplain, Evening Standard, September 7, 2016

The Peugeot 607, discovered on Sunday morning, was parked near the Seiner with its hazard lights on, no number plates and no one inside.

The two people detained by French police are both reportedly on a French terror suspect list.

Six canisters filled with gas were found in the boot and another empty one in the car.

French news agency AFP reported that police think the lights were to attract attention and that it may have been a “test-run”.

France is on high alert after a string of Islamic State attacks and threats against landmarks.

Gas cylinders filled with nails were used in attacks on Paris in the 1990s by Algeria-linked extremists.
