Two other state troopers, who were in uniform and inside the bus station with Dermyer at the time, fired back at Brown and killed him. Two women were also struck by gunfire during the incident and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Family said Brown may have been motivated by long-held grievances with law enforcement.

“He alway like the criminal side,” Brown’s aunt who helped raise him, Edith Brown, told WTVR.

“He had a lot of anger about the police in the past,” she said. “He pretty much thought that he wanted to be infamous . . . in terms of having a showdown. He always praised those people who got into shootouts with police.”
