Born Good? Babies Help Unlock the Origins of Morality

Studies of babies as young as 3 months old reveal a basic appreciation of justice and kindness, and also a tendency toward tribalism. As children grow older, they may become conditioned to act in contrary ways, but, as one researcher puts it, “When life is difficult, we regress to our younger selves. All this elaborate stuff we have on top disappears.”
