The Brazilian census board says that the non-whites in Brazil will outnumber the white population this year.
This means there are more people of African descent in Brazil than in any country outside of Africa itself, making Brazil second only to Nigeria in terms of its black population.
But only about 6% of African-Brazilians consider themselves to be fully-black—the overwhelming majority classify themselves as mixed-race.
Many Brazilian universities have adopted affirmative action policies or quotas to try to boost the number of black and mixed-race students in higher education.
The BBC’s Gary Duffy says this move has divided opinion in the country and provoked lengthy legal and political battles.

I don’t think Brazilians are clueless. They know what’s what, and they would not be doing this on their own. Brazilian whites are realistic and have never had any death wish nor self-hate. Nor do they have any romantic fantasies about uplifting other races, during poverty, or doing good for the world. No Brazilian celebrities go to Africa to adopt orphans, which they would see as a ridiculous publicity ploy.
This development is coming from pressure (both cultural and political) emanating from North America and Europe. Can it also be linked to the political upheaval that the Obama administration represents to the rest of the world? I have to wonder. I think the Brazilians have just seen the handwriting on the wall and are accommodating to it. If they know they must.
Unsurprisingly, South America’s two whitest countries (Chile and Argentina) are also the most prosperous.
America will BE Brazil in thirty years.

Yes, they are clueless - President Lula could be a Brazilian Bill Clinton.
Madison Grant, Uruguay is actually more white than Chile and is also one of the most prosperous countries in South America. Costa Rica is another prosperous Latin American country (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_rankings_of_Costa_Rica). It is 80% white - so it’s actually more white than the United States!
I’m all for people doing what they can to get a decent education. If Blacks and Mulattos (many who have a phenotype indistinguishable from Blacks here in the U.S) can get educated, employed, and improve their society it would be beneficial to all Brazilian citizens. It is a shame that they have to go through the trials of enforcing Afirm/Act when it really should not be necessary.

Now I know it may have started out as a necessity in the 1600s for White men (due to scarcity of White ladies) to breed with female slaves and servants. But this type of thinking carried on well into the 1950s, and I am not sure why. If I could quote a Black woman I hope it can spread a little light on why Brazil is choosing to adopt played out Afirm/Act policies now….

Chile isn’t very white at all. Uruguay is by far the whitest country in SA. Argentinians are suspiciously swarthy. Southern Brazil is about 80% white and the powerhorse of Brazil.
This will be America in 50 years - unless White people wake up from their slumber.
If you want to see our future now, look at Brazil. We are becoming a grim, Soviet style Brazil—a Brazil without the fun.

I do acknowledge that Brazilians love to have fun. To them, life is a party. Everything is pleasure. At least when they can get enough to eat first!
They are without any Puritan, Protestant tradition - which makes them quite unlike guilty North Americans.

Brazil was settled by the Potuguese who certainly are darker than the English who settled the US. I went to school in a town with a large Portuguese decended (not Brazilian) population and almost every one had dark hair and eyes. I recently spent some time in Rhode Island which has the biggest Potuguese community in the US and was able to get a channel aired from Portugual on my TV. Some of the people looked like they were mestizos. Although the modern white population of Brazil is mostly a mix of Portuguese, Spanish, German and Italian. So maybe to many Brazilians a mulatto is almost the same as being white, so there’s less opposition to miscegenation.

What is all this future tense talk about how “this will be America” in however many years? This IS America already. The youth of this country are brown and black as whites are too busy having recreational sex to have procreational sex. Southern Brazil is an economic powerhouse. The whites of Brazil have created some of the worlds most successful companies, for example Petrobras and Embraer. Who’s heard of a third world country that manufactures aircraft? Of course it won’t last for the same reasons it won’t last in America and didn’t last in South Africa. They already have the (second) worst crime rates in the world. We’ll see how well they can cope with the 2016 Olympics.

A lot of people casually called “Portuguese” are not really so, ethnically. It depends on where they are from, if not from the mainland. Many of those you saw in New England are from the Cape Verde Islands, off the African coast, and they are indeed mulattos (not mestizos).
On the other hand, the Azores in the mid-Atlantic were settled in the Middle Ages by tall, fair Flemish people from Flanders (what is now in Belgum/Holland). This was due to the intricacies of royal marriages at the time. Portuguese royalty was very closely connected to Flanders and England. The English alliance protected Portuguese independence from Spain. The great Portuguese promoter of exploration — the one who started the Age of Exploration, Prince Henry the Navigator — had an English mother, Philippa of Lancaster, a woman known for her intellect and learning. She was the daughter of John of Gaunt [Ghent], an English prince who was born in Flanders.
What benefit does Brazil GET from having such a huge black population? Probably very little. It would be interesting to see how different Brazil would be if it had a Japanese population as large as it’s black one and only a small black population.

There is a simple explanation for that. Brazil developed the most successful system of white supremacy that has ever been invented. Instead of the racial segregation that was practiced in the American South and in apartheid South Africa, they put in place a system that would allow the most successful non-whites to be integrated into white society.
That means that, any natural leader or agitator among the blacks and mulattos, would immediately be silenced by being bribed with beautiful white women. This system deprived blacks and mulattos of the leaders who would fight for the civil rights of their people.
In the American context, you can imagine a situation in which Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, WEB Dubois, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Louis Farrakan, are offered a selection of pretty white women, and full integration into the highest levels of white society, immediately their leadership potential is noticed early in their careers. This has the effect of decapitating the leadership of the blacks and mulattos. And the potential leaders of the blacks and mulattos are enlisted, through intermarriage with white women, to work towards advancing the white cause.
The puritan Northern Europeans in the American South and apartheid South Africa, put in place a rigid and inflexible system of white supremacy, in the form of strict racial segregation. When this system was challenged, it could not bend to accomodate the changing times - it could only break. When that system broke, white racial pride in those societies collapsed, and many whites in those societies are drowning in a sea of white guilt. The situation is similar to the collapse of a dam, that was built without gates to release the water pressure.
In the Brazilian model, the highest IQ non-whites are skimmed off, and absorbed into the white population. This does not have much of an impact on the general white IQ. Imagine a situation in the US, where the top 10 percent of blacks and hispanics is absorbed by white Americans. Who would run the NAACP, the Urban League, La Raza, or MeCha? The talented non-whites who are absorbed by whites in Brazil, have ended up being some of the fiercest defenders of that Latin system of white supremacy. And their mixed race children end up seeking white marriage partners. And the blacks in Brazil have ended up being the world’s most self-hating blacks, resulting in only 6 percent of people in Brazil identifying themselves as blacks, despite the fact that the population of blacks in Brazil is much larger than that. Al Sharpton would not be regarded as black in Brazil. If Obama was a Brazilian, he would have had a white wife. The flexibility of the Latin system of white supremacy will ensure that whites will retain their previleged status for a longer time in Brazil, than in America, even with a majority non-white voting population.
I recall seeing the Brazilian basketball team a few years ago and it was almost all white. There are also a lot of very good MMA fighters from Brazil but most are either white or mestizo (Anderson Silva being a notable exception). Strange country, Brazil.
Depaak makes some very valid points, and I’ve often thought of them muself. I definitely agree that “the Brazilizn system of white supremecy” is subtle, effective, and very clever. It’s also hypocritical and less honest than ours. They insist they have no discrimination, when they DO. But they refuse to see it.
However, while you can find ambitious and talented blacks moving up in the social scale in Brazil (though not in any great numbers), you don’t find upper class whites marrying down. That is, it would be extremely rare for a very upper class white woman to marry a black man. He might marry another white woman, though, one who was not economically well off or socially prominent.
Right here we had a good example of that: O.J. Simpson married Nichole Brown — but she was NOT from the elite class! All she had going for her was that the was white. For her, it was a choice of marrying OJ or being a waitress. She chose him. A fatal mistake! It was (for her) a step downward racially, but a step upward economically. But for him, it was a chance to marry white. He gladly dumped his former wife for her.
The problem, however, is that as they get lightened up by you, you also get darkened by them. And the white society that they thought they were joining (and you were protecting), becomes gradually no longer white. You end up with an Egypt or an India. It may seem to work over the short term, but not in the long run.
For a White society to maintain itself it must not only exclude non-Whites, but it must also shed those Whites who adopt the ways or embrace the cause of other peoples. Once you have Whites acting like Blacks, it becomes much harder to argue against having more Blacks. The Rolling Stones are no more desirable in our lands than Nigerians. I know some will rock and roll fans will denounce me for an old killjoy, but if it’s a choice between preserving a civilization or keeping adolescents happy, I’d tell the kids to learn to square dance and like it.
