The Smithsonian Institution acknowledges it mistakenly rented space to an advocacy group that one civil rights organization calls a hate group.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform made a $5,000 donation to hold an event Tuesday night at the National Postal Museum.

Smithsonian spokeswoman Linda St. Thomas says allowing the group to use museum space violates a policy that bars partisan, political groups. {snip}

FAIR spokesman Dustin Carnevale says the group is nonpartisan. {snip}

The Southern Poverty Law Center has called FAIR a hate group.

Which the Postal museum will utilize in some sort of outreach mission. Better to rent the Holiday Inn for a thousand and print up four grand in leaflets or some such.

I now declare the Southern Poverty Law Center is guilty of being a “hate group”. See, that’s not hard at all.

But gosh, I bet if it was LULAC that needed the space, there would have been no problem. If I was FAIR, I’d monitor the event lists, if possible, to see who does rent space. If it’s anyone political, I’d have a lawsuit smacked on the SI so fast that it would knock them into Archie Bunker’s chair.

Either the Smithsonian is really hurting for money or some staffer forgot to do the research.
They can make up for it by giving la raza some free time.

I wonder if any of these outfits quoting the SPLC get a share of the proceeds?

The Smithsonian Institution officials misread the note that accompanied the $5000 check.

It was the Federation for American Immigration Reform that reported the Southern Poverty Law Center was in fact the hate group to watch out for.

The money was a bet that the SPLC would say something hateful about them.

See?

That’s not a donation, that’s a payment.

Well, I hope they demanded it back!
