Police Won’t Enforce Immigration Laws

More news stories on Immigration Law Enforcement

Freddy Hunt, Kalamazoo Gazette, July 10, 2009

A year ago, then-newly appointed Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley assured a local advocacy group that the police have no intention of enforcing federal immigration laws.

On Thursday, he returned with a written draft of a policy on the subject, drawing strong applause.

By making a written policy, Hadley said it will assure undocumented immigrants they are safe in turning to the police for help without fear of being deported.

Although the draft policy was not distributed, Hadley said it prohibits police from soliciting immigration status for traffic violations and nonviolent crimes.

Hadley said he hopes the draft will be finalized next month after being reviewed by the agency’s two police unions.

“Police Won’t Enforce Immigration Laws.”

Excellent!

Now we can count on Michigan falling further into abject deterioration, because they’re crime rates will undoubtedly go way up, which just might cause whites there to be more racially conscious.

They have had this “law” in LA for some time now. You would think the illegals are the number one resource for solving crimes and they need to be protected.

Unfortunatley they are the number one group committing crimes.

Where are the statistics to back-up this cowardly act?

The idiocy continues. Let’s stop enforcing laws against burglers so they aren’t afraid to turn to police for help.

The police in Maryland use this illogical line of reasoning, too. Logically, if the illegals were not here, they wouldn’t need to turn to the local police in the first place! Deporting illegals means fewer criminals AND fewer victims.

(Am I being too cynical when I wonder whether police chiefs prefer more criminals and more victims in their community, to justify bigger budgets?)

This police officer should be immediately suspended for failure to do his duty, and that is uphold the laws of the land. How dare he decide which laws he will and won´t enforce?

I agree that police should not ask for immigration status for no reason or merely on suspicion of being an illegal. That’s reasonable. If you go to the police station to report a crime, you should be asked about your status. Nor if you are a crime victim. However, if the cop is going to write you a traffic ticket, or especially if you are arrested for a nonviolent crime, it’s now time to ask about status. In this 67% Latino California city, all arrestees are processed for immigration status and a huge number are sent to the INS.
