Mexicans Are Resentful of Canada’s Invocation of Visas

More news stories on Canada

Canwest News Service, July 20, 2009

Visa-free travel has been Canada’s calling card in Mexico ever since the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect and been the foundation of successful promotional campaigns that have made Canada one of the preferred destinations for Mexican travellers and students.

That incentive ended on July 13, when Canada announced new visa requirements.

Roughly 261,000 Mexican tourists visited Canada last year, according to Canadian tourism officials.

Long lines for visas show just how significant Mexican interest in Canada is, says Mexico City-based immigration consultant David Mendez, whose business sends students to study in foreign countries, including Canada.

He says that only the United States and Spain are more popular as destinations than Canada for Mexicans.

He predicted that over the long term, the new rules would be felt more in Canada, where an industry has mushroomed to serve Mexican students, than in Mexico.

“Thousands of jobs in Canada depend on Mexican students,” he said.

Perhaps the Mexicans would like to work in the gold mines of the Northwest Territories? For free? Too bad our Canadian neighbors are so “nice”. They will find their beloved socialist health care costs going through the roof if Mexicans move there in the millions.

Oh, too bad. The Mexican elite are not being allowed by Canada to shove their social problems onto yet another nation. This should somewhat silence those Americans who have been merciless critics of Canada’s wimpiness. Time to get busy and clean up our own back yard.

And requesting they obtain a simple visa beforehand will effect those jobs how? Not one bit. Not sure why Mexico seems to have such a problem when it comes to respecting the rules and the borders of other nations.

“Roughly 261,000 Mexican tourists visited Canada last year, according to Canadian tourism officials.”

And how many went home after the ‘vacation’ was over? Smart move, Canada…now stick with the plan and ignore the sob stories. Somehow I suspect this has nothing to do with the inconvenience factor and everything to do with repeating what happened to the American southwest.

So let in more white students to take their place — students from Holland, Germany, White South Africa, Rhodesia…er, Zim.
I have no urge to have Canada’s most populous sections turned into Mexifornia.

Bravo to Canada for not caving in.

This is supposed to be the argument ender.

The highest purpose of nation is not devotion to mammon. Some can’t understand this simple fact.

Look out, Canada, looks like you’re in for a bit more “diversity”, like it or not. Once the Mexis target you, here come millions more. All to do the jobs Canucks just won’t do, I guess.
Just what you need, yet another demanding group to force yet another foreign language upon you.

Ah, ha, ha! All those wealthy Mexican students bringing the coveted Mexican currency north to enrich Canada! That is one of the best ones I have read all year!!!

AND - the only reason there are any Mexican tourist coming to Canada (to see a moose?) is to scout it out for settlement.

Canada puts the kabosh on NAFTA - Good for Canada!
