Immigrants Have Growing Role in Va. Politics

More news stories on Immigration

Kali Schumitz, Fairfax County Times, June 23, 2009

Candidates campaigning in Virginia would be well advised to pay attention to the growing Asian and Latino communities here, according to recent analyses of the immigrant vote.

New Americans—naturalized citizens and the U.S.-born children of immigrants—now make up about 6.4 percent of the total voting population in Virginia, according to research by the Immigration Policy Center that was published last week.

That figure is even higher in Northern Virginia: about 12.5 to 18.5 percent of the voting-age population in the 8th, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts comprises naturalized citizens, according to the study, which was based on Census data.

Former attorney general Bob McDonnell, the Republican candidate, has been featured in Chinese-American newspapers, appeared on Vietnamese-American television, spoken on Korean-American radio and attended roundtables with Hispanic community leaders, according to campaign spokeswoman Crystal Cameron.

“This campaign is extremely active in every immigrant community in Northern Virginia because we are all Virginians, we are all in this together, and Bob McDonnell’s policies will make life better for all citizens of Virginia,” Cameron said.

Most of the immigrant voters in Virginia are trending toward the Democratic Party now, according to exit polling data from the November 2008 presidential elections.

Four of the five major Asian ethnicities in Virginia voted heavily for President Barack Obama last year, according to exit polling data from the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, also released last week. The nonprofit surveyed 1,148 Asian-American voters, both naturalized citizens and U.S. born, in eight precincts in the state, including five in Northern Virginia.

Vietnamese-Americans and older Koreans tend to be the most conservative, according to Glenn Magpantay, staff attorney with the Fund. Indians vote almost exclusively Democratic, while Chinese tend to be swing voters.

With proper outreach, it is possible for either party to gain the immigrant vote, experts say. For example, Sen. Jim Webb (D) won much of the Vietnamese vote because his wife, Hong Le Webb, is Vietnamese.

Candidates who try to use illegal immigration policy as a wedge issue, typically Republicans, tend to lose both in the immigrant communities and the election overall, according to America’s Voice, which has tracked races in which immigration was a major election issue.

A candidate’s stance on illegal immigration is a litmus test for many immigrants, particularly Latino immigrants, Setsaf said. Many Latinos in the United Sates are from “mixed status” families, and if they aren’t undocumented they know someone who is, she said.

There is no reason why Republicans can’t win the Latino vote, Setsaf added. “Hispanics are traditional and conservative in many ways. [Republicans] have got to be more sensible on immigration.”

Reaching out to immigrant communities was a key part of Virginia Democrats’ campaign strategy in Northern Virginia last year, said Jared Leopold, a spokesman for state Sen. Creigh Deeds’ campaign for governor and a former Virginia Democratic Party spokesman.

“We feel strongly that if candidates want the Asian American vote, to some extent they need to work for the Asian-American vote, and that includes people who don’t speak much English.” Magpantay [Glenn Magpantay, staff attorney with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund] said.

So McCain didn’t get a lot of immigrant votes. He didn’t get mine either. If the Republicans insist on running candidates like McCain, pretty soon they’re not going to get any votes. Maybe they can find a half chinese- half black woman who speaks Spanish and is a buddhist. Now there’s a combination that’s hard to beat.

Which just goes to show that for this lot it all boils down to who’s offering the most benefits for “minorities”.

What a strange form of “outreach” right there:
It’s almost as if they were voting based on ethnicity (of his wife)! But they aren’t white, so we’d better not chalk that up to “racism”.

How interesting, that of all the groups of Asians represented here, it is the most alien and anti-Western of the bunch, the Indians, that end up being so overwhelmingly for Comrade BO. It only goes to show you, just how incompatible these interlopers are with any civilized white country; to vote so exceedingly for what is clearly a disaster on the move, shows all to clearly their sentiments. I can get why the blacks did it, but why these invasive Punjabi “wonders” in about the same numbers too?

I’ll tell you why!

They hate us and want to see this country, and all of Western Civilization destroyed. That is because they know that so long as we exist as a viable people, they’ll never get anywhere geopolitically. I am sure that they feel the same for: Japan, Korea, and China, but those three peoples are not stupid and deluded enough to clasp that wretchedly hissing Hindi cobra to their bosoms!

As always, God help us all!!!

Interesting, the Vietnamese seem to like Republicans most of all. The Last time I was near DC it looked like most of the communities would feature the black man/white girlfriend demographic.

John PM’s post is very accurate. Unless it’s been my imagination, the experiences that I’ve had with Indians, Pakistani’s,etc. in general, were not very positive. The arrogance and false feelings of superiority many have towards European Americans just amazes me. For one thing, I’ve never in my life met such rude people, when I’ve had to stay at some of the hotels they are involved with.

In total, Virginia voted for Obama 53%, and McCain 46%.

The Asian minority vote shown here is troubling. For example, considering the troubles Koreans have had with blacks why are they voting for Obama??? The Indians appear to be voting like a tribe (despite their caste system) against the West and white candidates. Unfortunately, it appears that these tribes do not desire to perpetuate a government based on the principles of the US Constitution. Instead, they desire to recreate the corrupt, dysfunctional governments of their origins, so the most appropriate candidate to vote for would be Obama from that perspective.

One of the myths perpetuated by the neo-conservative globalists (e.g. The Wall Street Journal) is that all these immigrant groups are inherently conservative. Obviously, the neo-conservatives are out of touch with reality, or just assume they can lie in the face of overwhelming empirical evidence to the contrary and get away with it.

Another factor in Obama’s win in Virginia was because of whites who were stupid enough to vote for him despite the fact that Obama is pursuing policies that are against the white’s own interests (one cannot get more stupid than that). Particularly stupid are a subset of white women who voted for the Obamas because they perceive them as “glamorous” (the Camelot syndrome). I know more than a few personally, and I see many more on the road with Obama stickers on their cars.

Obviously, whites have to get more educated and vote tribal for their own interests just as these other tribes are doing.

John PM,
Britain has experienced massive, unrestricted Indian immigration for nigh on 50 years now.
It is a fact that they all vote Labour - they are probably Labour’s most loyal voting bloc.It was interesting to see that Leicester, England (which is majority Indian), was the one of the few places in England (apart from other heavily Indian areas), where the Labour vote actually held up at the Euro election (36% compared to the national average of 15%).
By Indian I also include Pakistanis and other sub-continentals.

I remember reading an article showing changing party affiliation among minorities. The Chinese and Koreans started out VERY Republican, just like the Vietnamese, then drifted to the left sharply as immigrants sympathetic to communist China arrived, subsequent generations of East Asians also inevitably drift towards he left due to a shift in values. However its unusual to see ANY group vote with as much unity as the Indians.

Back in the 1950s, Toronto was almost all white, was not coincidentally called ‘Toronto the Good’, and voted for right-wing political candidates. Fast forward 50 years, and Toronto is now a minority white city, has all sorts of crime and gun violence, and NEVER votes for conservative political candidates in either federal or provincial elections.

Third world immigrants, emboldened by multiculturalism to believe that where they came from is better than where they are now, vote for left-wing political candidates because a) lefties reinforce the belief that the third world is superior to white-majority countries, b) lefties encourage white-majority countries to become white-minority countries, c) lefties hate western civilization, and d) lefties support welfare and other government support programs.

Depressing logic, but it’s quite simple, really.

Republicans cannot depend on immigrants to keep them in power. The best they can hope for is to split their vote. It appears that first generation East Asians are more conservative than subsequent generations. A sense of ethnic entitlement is fostered by our victim-loving educational system and popular culture. While a few prominent South Asians embrace traditional conservatism, the election numbers provided in this article indict the bulk go along with leftwing, multicultural ideology.

Either Native Born White Americans organize poltically around their legitmate racial interests or they will be race-replaced by and at the hands of… post-1965 asians, hispanics, muslims and africans.

Both the Republican and Democartic parties are waging a vicious race war against the majority Native Born White American population.

And if you continue to vote Republican, you are voting for the death of Native Born White America. The choice:1)continue watching sports entertainmnet or 2)fight against the race-replacement of Nativ Born White Americans. Real White Men do not sit in front of the boob tube watching young black and hispanic multimillionaire males who wear tight spandex.

Generally non-Whites hate and envy Whites and will by instinct take strident measures to displace them. Self-preservation is the key and Whites have to do the utmost to protect and preserve their race and status.

Basically, the more non-whites a city or nation has, the more the schools and media and legal system have to thickly lay-on the all-minorities are always victims we must heroically defend them mantra and also highlight the pro-minority agenda. Apparently this keeps whites from noticing the white victims of their violence. Whites in these areas, particularly young ones, are often just as ‘liberal’ as people of color. Perhaps it’s just a divide and conquer strategy.

LOL! What idiot still believes this? Republicans have been chasing that voting block since 1986, when Reagan Amnestied all those illegal aliens, and they still don’t vote Republican.

Some of these political wonks remind me of Jonathan Swift’s Laputans who had been educated right out of all of their common sense.

More important to the rise of Democratic fortunes in Virginia is that the federal government grows bigger and bigger which means more and more bureaucrats and government contractors, most of whom are white and most of whom prefer the party of government, the Democrats. Northern Virginia’s white liberals have propelled the Democrats in Virginia more than Indians, Chinese or Koreans.

No party can count on immigrants to KEEP THEM in power, immigrants will elect anyone who helps get immigrants INTO the country so the immigrants can finally elect IMMIGRANTS into office to bring MORE IMMIGRANTS to vote into office.

How can whites organize but be neutral about race? That strategy has been tried and has failed. Witness the GOP and conservatism. We need to organize as whites, with an explicitly racial agenda and accept that we will start out very small and take many years to prevail, like all movements do. One of the biggest problems racially conscious whites have in America is that we are always looking for the quick fix. Most of the nationalist parties in Europe started out with a few dozen people and had to wait years before they won even a single small local election.

Post #19, Joe, Whites need to control what is taught to their children, so I suggest that we take back the local School Boards, first.

As School Board members, we decide what is taught in School, and we can keep an eye on those Teachers that have a propensity to lean hard to the Left, and try and manipulate children, instead of teaching them the proper course work.

Once we have experience taking the School Boards back, then we can move on to Local Elections, such as Village Trustee, Mayor, or Village Justice, which by the way, you do not need to be a Lawyer, to qualify for that position.

Some of the most important Local Elected positions that one could hold is County Clerk, County Exectutive, and County Sheriff. Don’t overlook County Legislator, as well as Town positions, such as Town Clerk, Town Supervisor, and Receiver of Taxes.

We need to take back the Local Seats of Power in our Community.

We also need to only shop at White-owned Stores, and go to White-owned Service Stations, for our State Inspections, and repairs.

If you go into a Dunkin’ Donuts Franchise Store, and see all Indians behind the counter, turn around and leave, and buy your coffee at the White-owned Luncheonette, or Bakery.

Many Indians own “Subway” and “Blimpe” sandwich shops. Because of that, I only buy from German, and Italian Shops.

So, vote with your money.
