Conyers Abandons Plan to Probe ACORN

More news stories on Blacks in Charge

S.A. Miller, Washington Times, June 25, 2009

[House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr.], Michigan Democrat, earlier bucked his party leaders by calling for hearings on accusations the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now (ACORN) has committed crimes ranging from voter fraud to a mob-style “protection” racket.

“The powers that be decided against it,” Mr. Conyers told The Washington Times.

Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh, whose testimony about ACORN at a March 19 hearing on voting issues prompted Mr. Conyers to call for a probe, said she was perplexed by Mr. Conyers’ explanation for his change of heart.

“If the chair of the Judiciary Committee cannot hold a hearing if he want to [then] who are the powers that he is beholden to?” she said. “Is it the leadership, is it the White House, is it contributors? Who is ‘the power?’”

Capitol Hill Democrats had bristled at proposed hearings because it threatened to rekindle criticism of the financial ties and close cooperation between President Obama’s campaign and ACORN and its sister organizations Citizens Services Inc. and Project Vote.

ACORN and its affiliates are currently the target of at least 14 lawsuits related to voter fraud in the 2008 election and a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act complaint filed by former ACORN members.

This type of corruption — back-room deals, political pressure, thwarting the law, etc. is very, very common in the state of Illinois, and especially in Chicago. You simply cannot succeed as a politician in Chicago if you don’t “play the game.” That is why I think that 3 out of our 4 last governors are either under indictment or are actually in prison.

Anyway, once this sort of corruption starts, democracy, fairness, and freedom are dead. Is this the “change” that we were promised?

Well Miss. Heidelbaugh, there is your answer!

You kick that ACORN over from its muddy little puddle of goo, and God only knows what might crawl out from under it and into the light of day?

It is ironic (and also telling) that Comrade Conyers is backing away from this all of a sudden, when his wife Monica just got nailed for corruption (as is reported in the article above.) They probably have some dirt on him too; he has been in the US House since 1965 after all, and he is not known for his brains. Cunning when it comes to political survival certainly, but brains, no way.

Heck, he was probably only going for these hearings to try and blackmail his own deal for his wife. Now that she is getting it in the neck, he must be “seeing the light?”

There is a new “Big Chief” in DC town and it isn’t him!

As always, God help us all!!!

One more step towards turning ACORN (or whatever it’s passing itself off as now) into another unaccountable “branch” of the Obama administration.

Don’t be surprised when those pesky lawsuits are mysteriously dropped or “resolved” without further comment

Why is it that when a White politician gets caught in various, nefarious and sundry scandals..they resign…but blacks will never do so? Is it because they don’t think they did anything wrong? or because of the legacy of slavery or because blacks just don’t care.

Successful politicians from Chicago are products of the “Chicago Political Machine.” It takes a lot of money and inside connections to get elected, to buy favorable media coverage and to block unfavorable media coverage. How do Chicago politicians get such funding? How do they get such power? How do such politicians get “connected”? The answer is: You scratch my back and I’ll scratch your back!

You simply cannot make it to the top of Chicago politics unless you owe a lot of people a lot of favors. Back-room dealing is how the game is played, whether in Chicago or Washington. Rule of thumb: Don’t trust any politician from Chicago.
