A recent study by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics found the number of incarcerated mothers rose 131 percent from 1991 to 2007, while the number of fathers in prison increased 77 percent during the same period.
According to the Sentencing Project, a Washington-based nonprofit, about 1.7 million children have a parent in prison.
“We should be alarmed,” said Georgia Lerner, executive director at the Women’s Prison Association, a national nonprofit working with incarcerated women.
“Even when children have seen their mothers get arrested, they still want to be with their parents,” Lerner said. “They still love their mothers and want to be together.”
While some critics argue that criminals make poor parents, experts said there is no doubt that separation from a parent, particularly a mother, affects a child’s psychological development.
When a father is imprisoned, the mother typically cares for the children, said Danielle Dallaire, a psychology professor at the College of William and Mary. But her research shows that when a mother is incarcerated, the father often plays no role in raising the children left behind.
Federal statistics show children are five times more likely to end up in foster care when a mother is sent to prison than when a father is imprisoned. Read the Federal Report

A growing number of prisons are recognizing the need to preserve mother-child relationships. They have staffed nurseries and day care centers to keep families connected.
Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, a maximum security women’s prison in New York, is host to an annual summer camp run by volunteers. At camp, children can play basketball and participate in other activities with their incarcerated mothers.
In May, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is reuniting moms and dads with their children. The “Get on the Bus” program provides 700 children with free rides to the prisons.

There’s an easy way around it. Don’t commit a felony if you’re a mother of a young child. And don’t start in with the excuse of so many mothers being in prison for a victimless crime — because states’ budgets are limited, they have to economize by building men’s prisons to women’s. (Not only that, men commit far more felonies than women). Therefore, as hard as it is to be sentenced to prison for certain jurisdictions for male felons, it’s even less likely for women felons actually to get a term in prison.
This is the third day CNN had posted a story about a criminal black woman on it’s front web page. First it was a two day sob story about Samantha Orobator, who is a British citizen accused of drug smuggling in Loas, and today a story about this black criminal baby-mama.
Note to CNN: I have no interest in reading about criminal black females and their sob stories each and every day.
This kind of thing has been around since forever. In many countries Mothers are allowed to have the children with them until the kids are about 5. Probably a good idea, keeps the prisoners busy and out of trouble.
I brought many kids, especially babies and toddlers out to both the city and county jails to visit their parents. Our county had some cubby holes so we could all sit there and the criminals could play with and cuddle their kids instead of being separated by glass walls.
I could not help but notice that the Hell’s Angels and Aryan Brotherhood guys were the best Fathers. They seemed comfortable holding and playing with the babies and toddlers. Also, the little ones knew who Daddy was, unlike other ethnic groups.
It is a good thing, whether the parents are Mothers or Fathers. The kids often come along on those conjugal visits in the trailers. Any family member can come.
Many prisons have playgrounds and picnic grounds for family visiting day. Quite a few babies have been discreetly conceived on family visiting day.
This is another tax funded do gooder group. As long as they do good and do not try to overthrow the government and put in an “exterminate the Whites government” it is a good thing.
Problem is, behind nearly every do gooder group in America lurks the satanic minds and black hearts of the eviliberals who work hard to exterminate Whites under the guise of doing good.
A co-worker in Iraq had a Puerto Rican girlfriend and after telling me all about her I asked “how many of her family are in jail?” He was offended. He spend his first R&R in the states with her VISITING RELATIVES IN JAIL!!!! He sheepishly told me all about that too hahaha crackin myself up here.
Yea grandma or great auntie had to raise a lot of them black kids we know since they werent as big a crackheads having been thru the old school of separate but equal knowing their place in white society.
SKIP: You find something funny about this? I don’t. The children of the imprisoned will grow up without a role model (not that the parents would’ve been good ones if they ended up in jail anyways). They will commit crimes and be sent to jail- often after having their own children. Hence the poverty and crime cycle. The apple can fall far from the tree, but it doesn’t happen much at all. The amount of minority parents in jail are disturbing. There needs to be something done about it. The breakdown of the idea of a permanent marriage and the collapse of the strong morals we once held are linked to this. Once, not long ago, criminals would give up crime to give their children a better future, one that doesn’t involve hiding in the shadow, scavenging to eat and having to turn away from society. It seems now, such parental sacrifices have vanished. Its sad to note that many parents would not even give up smoking for their children, let alone crime.
“…The breakdown of the idea of a permanent marriage and the collapse of the strong morals we once held are linked to this….”
These things are White conceits, conceived for White mores and temperaments and do not fit into non-White paradigms.
It is insanity to expect non-Whites to conform to the manners and morals of Western Civilization which came about over centuries as a system of and product for the natural tendencies of Whites.
“…There needs to be something done about it…”
I’m with Jared Taylor when he writes that anyone receiving any form of government assistance be mandated by the government to be fitted with Norplant.
What is the purpose of expanding an underclass that violently preys on and leeches off of the producers and law-abiding citizens of a society?

People did try and do something about it. Those people were run out of town and driven from polite society. You can still see some of them on sunday morning TV however.
SKIP: You find something funny about this? I don’t.
Not funny as much as IRONIC. No amount of parenting with these 3rd worlders in the U.S. will change any measurable percentage of the offspring into responsible, self (and family) supporting citizens of the U.S. (IF they are even citizens NOW) ALL illegals AND their anchor babies should be sent home (or where the hell ever but not here) So yeah! show me a Puerto Rican family without several or many members in jail, I expect the same is true of black families. Anon.. are you male of female?

Laos is NOT where a person wants to be in jail. Foreign countries have different laws (naturally) and they don’t care much for Americans anymore, Some members of the Bloods and Crips found out to their dismay in Kuwait. The Kuwaitis rounded themn all up and imprisoned them.
Don’t get too weepy for these kids missing their mothers. The article says 62% of the women are incarcerated for drug crimes, so the kids are generally being raised by their grandmothers already, before crackhead mom finally goes down.
Most states try all sorts of things to keep these women out of actual prison: mandatory drug rehab, community corrections (halfway houses), etc. The gals generally have to be persistant recidivators before they actually get sent to prison.
Correct about Laos! Southeast Asia has extremely strict drug laws, which usually includes the death penalty. When I was living in Sydney, a pair of Ozzies were arrested for drug trafficking in Malaysia. They were both hanged. When the Australian government protested, the Malaysian government said “Send us some more.”
Singapore really takes first prize, though. When I got off the plane, there were recorded announcements saying that there is a death penalty for simple possession of illegal narcotics. Some Dutch fellow apparently thought this didn’t apply to him, which turned out to be an expensive, permanent mistake on his part.
Minorities of color or religion must accept personal responsibilities for their actions or lack of, just like White-Christians do in their cultural countries; if not , go home to your own third world ” paradise ” .

In Kuwait and Saudi, for a drug dealing conviction after the Emir/King signs the death warrant, 7 days later you are gone!!
