2 Men Indicted on Bird Smuggling Charges

Duc Le, 34, and Sony Dong, 46, were charged in an eight-count indictment with conspiring to smuggle dozens of birds [from Vietnam] into the United States, including red-whiskered bulbuls, magpie robins and shama thrushes.

Both men were arrested last month after investigators determined that Dong had 14 birds fastened to pieces of cloth around his calves, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Mark Williams.

A subsequent search revealed dozens more illicit birds, officials said.

I wonder if this smuggling will get these two deported?

If you love North American wildlife for all its diversity and recreational potential, this story should catch your attention. Not only are these foreigners smugglers, they are also a danger to our native birds, and they are cruel to boot! I’m glad to hear our govt. has kept out potentially threatening specimens. I wish they would also do more to keep out unscrupulous foreigners.

Here in Canada they project the image of quiet civility and the ‘hard-working immigrant’ stereotype, but as a community they are massively into marijuana grow-ops, and organized crime against the host population.
