Twenty-five Chicago Public School students have been murdered this year. As shocking as that number is, there is another figure that’s very disturbing as well: the number of students who have been shot in a 16-month period is enough to fill an elementary school—508 students, according to school officials. CBS station WBBM-TV in Chicago’s Chief Correspondent Jay Levine asks why, and what is being done to stop it.
Think about it. By this time tomorrow, odds are at least one Chicago Public School student will have been shot. By this time next week, there’ll be seven. It’s a staggering, frightening, shameful statistic that judging from the reaction we got, those who could do something aren’t anxious to talk about.

Chicago Public School students are relatively safe until they leave school, but after that, the closer to home, stats show, the more dangerous it is.

An alternative to drugs, guns and violence is an after-school program at the Bethlehem Star Missionary Baptist Church where virtually every one of the kids have been touched by that violence.

“My uncle got shot right in front of our building, while we were playing basketball. I was kind of scared ‘cause he was a family member, and I didn’t want him to die,” said 14-year-old Davell Jackson. “I was kind of frightened that I could have got shot too.”
“My cousin, he was driving, and somebody shot at his car, and he flew out the window and he was killed,” said 13-year-old Alvin Howard.
Not far from the church, on Friday night, an 18-year-old CPS graduate was shot and killed. It was just weeks after his 17-year-old brother was among three young men murdered by an alleged gunman just recently acquitted of murder—within view of a police blue light camera, which anonymous officers on the Internet claim are all too often being used to replace a shrinking force of street cops.

“There’s a fear in the neighborhood because the people fear retaliation,” Pastor Watkins said. “We need to go back to the old school way where we had neighbors knowing each other, building neighborhood block clubs.”

This reminds me of how we always hear that blacks are this or that percentage of homicide victims, but no figures are ever given out on what percentage of the known perpetrators are.
Liberal authoritarians are always preaching about cameras. There was a camera that caught a murder here, as you can read in this article. Did it preclude the murder? No. Did the jury as much as convict the obvious suspect? Black, Chicagograd? You know the answer.
I also object to the notion that “after school programs” (read: arts and crafts, basket weaving) is going to help. It’ll be mainly be young black girls and boys in these programs, but they wouldn’t be violent anyway, for the most part. Can you imagine some 17-year old guy ganged up with the Crips giving up that scene to do arts and crafts? Come on, spare me.
As far as “going back to the old school way,” no chance of that in a city like Chicagograd in a state that has the visage of the Old Egalitarian Reprobate on its license plates, and in its public conscience, and on every monument not otherwise dedicated to MLK and Obama. Back in those days, the blocks that had neighborhood watches were not only white, but usually of the same ethnicity.
Love to know the racial breakdown of these numbers. Good luck trying to find out.
That fool Mayor Daley got the idea from Londons Mayor, Red Ken, to use hundreds of cameras instead of real cops. He claimed it was for public safety, but its more about saving money on real cops. Its also worthless, the dealers just moved into the alleys where the cameras cant see.
While the article claims over 500 students shot, thats likely misleading, as they may be of school age, but I would venture that less than half the shooting victims are acutual students at the time of their shootings.
This level of violence is also observed throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, Haiti, Detroit, E. St Louis, Oakland, and in the more diverse areas of Sao Palo, Brazil. I wonder if there is a common thread here?
In a peculiar way, I like articles like this. The fact that Americans basically don’t react or collectively yawn at this unconscionable, murderous savagery among school “children,” is more proof that what Americans DON’T say or do about race may just reveal more about their attitudes that all the rhetorical mush they DO say when questioned. The American people would be apoplectic if this insanity were going on among White young people - but from Blacks…they just expect it! Subconscious race-realism???
I read the gunshot murder statistics of Chicago while I was in Iraq in Aug 08, and more people were killed in Chicago by guns than soldiers killed in ALL OF IRAQ!!! Guess we need a surge there too!

This is why I cringe when I read so many stories about the “harshness” in the criminal justice system towards blacks. The most recent time I read this was in a Pew study about the need for “community corrections.” It sounds like that’s what Chicago does already. The angle is drug legalization, and there is a popular myth that state prisons are chock full of people whose crime was merely possessing a little bit of weed.
But I bet in Chicago that it is almost impossible for anyone whose only crime is possession of illegal drugs to get any jail or prison time, on a state rap, not counting the time between initial arrest and bonding out, assuming that there’s enough Crook County jail space to take them to, my guess is that the cops give them a ticket.
I feel your pain, too. At the first of the year, I moved from St. Louis to Carbondale. And while this part of IL is way different than Chicagograd, we still have to live under its iron fist. CCW was rejected by a State Senate committee today.
Remember, these are the “youths” that Gun Controllers always allude to when whining about the toll of “Gun Violence” upon the “Children” of Amerika.
What makes you think all of this is blacks? The largest gang in Chicago is Puerto Ricans and Mexicans (Latin Kings etc). Also many Latinos are black gangs as well. Take it from someone who has live in Chicago for four years, Latinos are murdering and commiting crimes as well. What do think is going to happen when they are the majority.

The reality is that the system is enormously overburdened, and they are looking for ANY reason to not incarcerate. I have had officers refuse to arrest for small amounts of drugs. What gets a CPD officer excited is a gun. They are apoplectic when you can get them a mutt with a gun, as it is a stat that carries some weight.
As long as these “school children” are going to be shot by other blacks, there is no outrage whatsoever; like there would be if they were shot by police officers (see Oakland, CA BART shooting on 1-1-09). That’s because Bantus cannot play the race card in black-on-black shootings. All they can do is wring their hands and call for more “gun control”.
It’s not just confined to Chicago, of course. Remember the article about toddlers getting raped by HIV-positive men in the new South Africa? It left Desmond Tutu scratching his head wondering why some people are the way they are.
These 500 schoolchildren were killed outside of school grounds outside of school hours. What you do in your free time is your own business. All victims were black and hispanic and they were killed by gang members who can’t shoot straight.
I don’t know why anybody’s getting worked up over this. Look at it as a form of retroactive birth control.
What a shame we wasted so much of our military resources in Iraq. We should have been fighting the terrorists living right here amongst us all along.

Blacks and the media have no problem naming race when it comes to school testing results to downgrade and making excuses for the poor schools or poor teachers etc etc since we know its not the blacks fault for their inferior results.
Blacks have no problem calling down the banks for tricking them into loans for homes that were foreclosed on do they? White banks are the problem and of course noone understood the loan or that payments had to be made monthly on time.
Black males always have an excuse especially since they are only 6% of the population yet commity 80% of the violent crimes and flood the jail cells costing billions annually.
We know AG Holder really means he only wants to discuss race when it is advantageous to blacks and disadvantageous to whites and when he refers to America as cowards he means white America.
The lack of accurate information by our designed news media are proof we are cowards when discussing matters of race. Just as our astute AG stated. Believe me, the AG doesn’t want the truth.

Presumably it would have been OK if he was an anonymous stranger, and it would have been exhilirating if he were a white who had ventured into the neighborhood.
With this mentality, the 14-year-old interviewee is ready to do some killing on his own, as long as it’s not family members whom he prefers not to die.
And the Mayor Daily can’t stop blaming the guns. It’s against the law to own a handgun in Chicago. The police know who the gang members are. If these little thungs were’nt people of color, the police could take most of them off the street just for violating the city’s handgun ban. But, that would be profiling. Mayor Daily recently blamed America for the drug wars going on in Mexico. That’s how upsidedown Mayor Daily thinks.

Surely there is not an iota of difference between Black kids shooting and killing Black kids over trivialities… and the senseless genocides, atrocities, rapes, mutilations and killings by AFRICAN Blacks in those Black ruled African nations.
I am somewhat surprised no sociologist or researcher has commented on the similarity of sociopathic mentality among Afro-Americans and Black Africans in those African nations. The gang-related senseless killings in Chicago, Philly, to name only two examples, those tribal conflicts in Africa. IS there any discernible difference between them? Is the Black MENTALITY the root cause?

What the MSM uses is the big news of a White guy who once in a blue moon, goes berserk, and uses an assault rifle (or near) to kill a number of people, just as in Alabama or Germany this week. These will be paraded as the reasons for needing strict gun control standards, not the poor, mistreated Blacks in Chicago (or elsewhere) who after all, are really victims of White injustcies for 400 years!
More americans died from gunshot wounds last year in Chicago than in Bagdad. Mayor’s solution is to bring the Olympics!
I guess the predators are running out of prey! If the comment about the Olympics is true, this bodes to be as much fun as the world cup is going to be in South Africa!
