Richardson Withdrawal Disappoints Latinos

More news stories on Non-White Pressure Groups

Alexander Mooney, CNN, January 6, 2009

Bill Richardson’s withdrawal from his commerce secretary nomination Sunday didn’t just leave a major gap in the new administration, but it also sorely disappointed Latinos who view the New Mexico governor as their most prominent representative.

“We are hugely disappointed. It’s a stunned community out there,” said Janet Murguía, president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.

“He is a very well-recognized leader not just in the Latino community but in this country and he has a long record of public service,” she said.

Yet many Latino bloggers and activists openly grumbled that the president-elect should have given Richardson an even more prominent post in the administration, namely secretary of state.

“Secretary of commerce equals ‘Where we stick Latinos to say we’re diverse,’” one prominent Latino blog declared in December.

But with Richardson stepping aside from consideration for commerce secretary amid an ethics investigation relating to a company that has done business with his state, only two Latinos are now set to serve in the new Cabinet: Labor secretary-designate Hilda Solis and Interior secretary-designate Ken Salazar, neither of which, some critics have argued, will hold a prominent Cabinet post.

The prospect of having only two Latinos on Obama’s Cabinet riles some members of the Hispanic community who say their support of Obama was crucial to his success on Election Day

“It’s disappointing at least for now that this administration doesn’t have three Latinos as members of its Cabinet,” said Arturo Vargas, the executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

{snip}

Exit polls on Election Day show Obama, a Democrat, won the Latino vote by more than 2-1 over Republican Sen. John McCain. Latinos’ support of Obama was significantly greater than their support of the 2004 Democratic nominee, John Kerry, who that year won the Latino vote by only 9 percentage points over Bush.

Obama’s support among Latinos especially made a difference in a string of tossup states—including New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Florida—and Latino leaders had hoped the support would translate to several high-profile posts in the new administration.

“President-elect Barack Obama owes Latinos much more than three Cabinet positions. That’s just a beginning of the kind of inclusion, involvement and engagement that his entire presidency has to have with Latinos,” Arturo said.

“We do think another Latino should replace Mr. Richardson,” Murguía of NCLR said. “It’s not out of a sense of entitlement, it’s really out of sense of historic precedent. President-elect Obama was ushered into office by a wide diverse coalition of different voters. There is a strong sense of pride among Latino voters that they played a special role.”

{snip}

Obama transition officials say the president-elect has already set a record for the number of Hispanics appointed to White House posts and discount criticisms the Latino community is getting slighted.

{snip}

But even as prominent Hispanic leaders publicly call for the president-elect to replace Richardson with another Latino appointee, not all Latinos necessarily feel the same way.

Short of appointing Mesoamerican aborigines to Secretary of Treasury, State, and Homeland Security nothing will pacify the Palenque.

Bill Richardson, the original nominee, happened to be Hispanic and so apparently the Hispanic pressure groups think the seat is “theirs” now. They have prepared a list of Hispanics from which Obama must choose the replacement nominee if he wishes to stay in their favor. I do hope Obama will have the common sense to replace Richardson with whoever happens to the best for the job, and I’m betting he’s got his replacement picked out in his mind already, but is afraid to do it for fear of alienating the Hispanics who supposedly put him in power.

Hispanics don’t see anything wrong with bribery, favorism, and corruption. If they did, they wouldn’t have elected the government they have in Mexico.

That’s their culture.

Besides, it’s better (for them) to have a crime-ridden economically insolvent bannana republic (“Alta California” or “Aztlan”) but under Mexican control than a well functionning country with strong economy run by gringos.

And who’s the racist now??

Latinos supported Obama, so he “owes” them???

HAHAHA!

Bienvenida to the club, amigos! White conservatives supported “W” in 2000 and 2004 and got the shaft, too!

Oh, so because YOUR people crossed into our country, we owe you something? How about you illegal mexicans owe the US for the billions we’ve had to dole out for spanish-speaking services, to jail you, to take care of you (and your children), and so on.

“La Raza: Two Hispanics in Cabinet not enough.”

To “The Race,” everything begins and ends with race.

Out of one side of their mouths they say we should ignore race. Out of the other, they complain that there’s not enough of “them” in positions of power.

“…Latinos who view the New Mexico governor as their most prominent representative” are right. He loves La Raza more than the U.S. and he takes bribes. That’s nothing to be proud of in my view, but hey, I’m not a Mexican.

Non-white Latinos disappoint me collectively with their Marxist racism.

Obama should find an obscure American Indian to appoint to the post of Secretary of Commerce just to spite the crybaby Hispanics that think that they are entitled to the piece of the pie. If they complain about the appointment of an Amerindian, then they will show their true colors even more than they already have.

Even after being awakened many years ago, I’m still a little surprised at how brazen the racial/ethnic identity politics are getting these days. The naked displays of non-white self-interest should get the attention of even the most brainwashed Whites by now…but will they?

“Sec. of Commerce equals ‘Where we stick Latinos to say we’re diverse,’” is how one whiner put it.

Even when minorities get a job they don’t deserve they still complain and play the race card.

Still, I enjoy seeing blacks hit w/the same shakedowns and racial con games that they pioneered decades ago.

As a pretty good politician (George Wallace) from my state once said to a novice (me): “see that doctor over there - you get him you get one vote, see that farmer over there - you get him, you get his wife, his kids, his father, his mother, her father, her mother, aunts, uncles, friends — he loads them all on the back of his pick up truck, takes them to vote, and then stands over them making sure they voted the right way!” I also think that applies to Hispanics. Another well known adage around here is that: “those what baked da pie eat da pie!”

President Obama is just finding out that every minority wants a part of the winner and their part is NEVER going to be enough whether their skin is black, brown, or liberal.

So what is an acceptable number of Latinos? If blacks think Obama is looking out for them, they’ve got another thing coming. Obama, like even most sell-out white politicians, will cater to Hispanics and the groups that claim to represent them.

I am willing to bet important body parts that nearly 100 percent of the homosexual vote in this country went to Mr. Obama. By the twisted logic of LaRaza, this means a significant proportion of the Cabinet should be openly gay…..male and female alike, of course.

17 — T Rexx wrote at 1:59 PM on January 7:

You Have to kind of admire LaRaza for coming right out and saying WE ARE HISPANIC AND TO US RACE MATTERS. We as White Caucasian Americans should have the gonads to do the very same thing. But instead we allow weaklings, gays, and soccer moms to dictate our fate. The day of whites raising all other races above theirs will have a price to be paid, we can see that everyday Right Now.

CNN and every other media outlet refuses to accept the fact that La Raza is a front for pro-crime, anti-white mexicans. CNN and the likes do anything they can to legitimize their existance. They know it’s wrong and just think it’s funny.

I can’t believe whites do this to whites. Alexander Mooney…what a sniveling lowlife. The next four years are going to see groups such as these swell to their limit. They need to be taken down. I’m tired of the First Amendment being used as a weapon. It’s as cowardly as it gets.

Every day I wake up, I get to see some minority on the news blaming whitey and being coddled by the press. It’s become just a big joke to them. Like the old media saying goes…”Keep ‘em grumbling”.
