The Education Equality Project Hosts the King Day Rally in Washington, DC
Monday, January 19th
On the eve of President Barack Obama’s inauguration, EEP will host a King Day Rally in Washington, DC to reflect on Dr. King’s dream. As we inaugurate the United State’s first African-American president, there is no more important time to address the shameful achievement gap that persists between the races in our country.
We cannot ignore the achievement gap and the work that remains to fulfill Dr. King’s dream. EEP considers fixing the nation’s schools to be the critical civil rights challenge of our time. This event will raise awareness nationally and build support for our urgent mission.
EEP co-founders Reverend Al Sharpton and New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein invite supporters to join them at the King Day Rally on Monday, January 19th at 12:30pm in Washington, DC. The event will be held at Cardozo High School, located at 1300 Clifton Street, NW in Columbia Heights. (A short walk from the Columbia Heights metro.) Doors open at 10am and the National Action Network will have a pre-rally at 11am.
Reverend Sharpton and Chancellor Klein will lead the rally and will be joined by other civil rights, government, and education leaders including Mayors Booker (Newark) and Johnson (Sacramento), Martin Luther King III, Governor Romer, US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, Dr. Michael Lomax (President, United Negro College Fund), Geoffrey Canada (President and Chief Executive Officer for Harlem Children’s Zone), and Senator McCain.
