Lawsuit Seeks to Prohibit Voter Intimidation in Future Elections

WASHINGTON—The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit under the Voting Rights Act against the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and three of its members alleging that the defendants intimidated voters and those aiding them during the Nov. 4, 2008, general election.

The complaint, filed in the United States District Court in Philadelphia, alleges that, during the election, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were deployed at the entrance to a Philadelphia polling location wearing the uniform of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, and that Samir Shabazz repeatedly brandished a police-style baton weapon.

“Intimidation outside of a polling place is contrary to the democratic process,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker. “The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed to protect the fundamental right to vote and the Department takes allegations of voter intimidation seriously.”

According to the complaint, party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz confirmed that the placement of Samir Shabazz and Jackson in Philadelphia was part of a nationwide effort to deploy New Black Panther Party members at polling locations on Election Day. The complaint alleges a violation of Section 11(b) of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits intimidation, coercion or threats against “any person for voting or attempting to vote.” The Department seeks an injunction preventing any future deployment of, or display of weapons by, New Black Panther Party members at the entrance to polling locations.

The New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, which claims active chapters nationwide, is distinct from the Black Panther Party founded by Bobby Seale in the 1960s.

The Civil Rights Division enforces the Voting Rights Act of 1965. To file complaints about discriminatory voting practices, including acts of harassment or intimidation, voters may call the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931. More information about the Voting Rights Act and other federal voting laws is available on the Department of Justice’s web site at www.usdoj.gov/crt/voting/index.htm.

About time. I was wondering why I did not see any arrests on the day that the incidents took place. The footage on Fox and other news outlets seemed pretty intimidating to me.

While I’m glad that the racial pandering U.S. Justice Department has done something, I think if the races were reversed, then they would be doing more than just suing.

BTW, suing? You think that’ll deter Black Panthers?

I remember the article relating that incident right here on Amren, and after reading it I was amazed that these people acted so stupidly.

Any 12 year white kid would have sense enough to understand that his actions wouldn’t really accomplish anything but get him jailed. But, as usual, blacks can’t seem to understand that.

If you’re interested in seeing a picture and video of this incident, here is that clown Shabazz in action:

Wow a civil rights law that may apply to Whites.

Actually the Voting Rights Act law hasn’t been to bad for Whites lately. The Justice Department demands that states carve out a majority black district so southern states that have large black populations can have representation. The result is one majority black district with the others being White and conservative since the Democrat voting blacks have been removed and put in a weird shaped districts that often include nothing but a highway until they hit a large black populace again.

Whites get a White rep, blacks get a black rep and more often then not the black rep is a Shelia Jackson Lee or a Cynthia McKinny type that provide us with more material to awaken fellow Whites either by there actions or words.

With the South becoming more and more non-White this law may end up helping more than hurting Whites in the near future

And who needs a poll tax aren’t we taxed enough already. I would like to see the reading and writing part put back in though and maybe an IQ test. If you have a below 90 IQ you can’t vote, seems fair.

Yeah, get an injunction now that the election is over. The police should have come out in full riot gear and beat those thugs to death right in front of the polling place.

Could we at least get the three thugs thrown in jail, not just a sissy “injunction” against them from interfering in the next election that their messiah wants to steal?

99 times out of 100 they go against whites. Even when the white person is beat up or harassed. I tend to think this kind of aberration is just a show so they can pretend they are being ‘fair’.

All good and well, but I didnt read anything about criminal charges being filed. I would say jail time for the guilty perps would be far more effective than a lawsuit, which will hold an organization, rather than individuals, responsibble for this criminal outrage.

I know you all have thought this, but can you imagine if these thugs had been White? There would have been a media circus for the next four years.

Maybe the intent of the Panthers carrying a weapon was to make Black urban voters feel right at home as the voters probably observe in their daily crime-ridden hoods. Isn’t this the Black urban way?

We should not be suprised by the behavior of these New Black Panther Party thugs. They are just imitating the actions of their “brothers” back in the various African countries during their own elections.
