Gay and bisexual black men in America are the most likely people in the world to contract HIV, and community advocates say current efforts to stem the epidemic aren’t working.
“Gay black men are more likely to contract HIV than any other population in the country,” said Caudie Grissom, a counselor with Atlantabased National AIDS Education & Services for Minorities. “Even with all of our modern technology and medication, American black gay men are more likely to have HIV than people living in third world countries.”
NAESM sponsored the fifth annual National African-American MSM Leadership Conference on HIV/AIDS. Held Jan. 22-25 in Atlanta, it attracted hundreds of community organizers and activists from across the country. Asked why the rates of HIV and AIDS are higher among black men who have sex with men, answers ranged from poor federal services to stigma and discrimination within a mostly white medical profession.

[Ernest] Hopkins is a vice-chair of the National Black Gay Men’s Advocacy Coalition, an organization that lobbies in Washington on gay health issues. Hopkins said major obstacles to lowering HIV rates among black men who have sex with men include a lack of research on HIV in the black community; prevention and health care models based on the idea that gay men live openly in communities like Midtown; and a shortage of doctors who are well-versed and comfortable treating black gay men, HIV positive or not.
In 2005, a five-city study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention showed that of the gay and bisexual men who were surveyed, 46 percent of black men were HIV-positive. This meant black men who have sex with men were nearly twice as likely to be infected with HIV than other gay and bisexual men.
“There is really nothing out there for the black gay community, and that’s really an indictment on the CDC, on HRSA [Health Resources & Services Administration], on every level of HHS [Health & Human Services] and the other structures that are providing programs,” Hopkins said. “We just have not been prioritized. That’s due to homophobia and racism, just very clearly that’s it.”

Discriminating doctors?
“There was a study last year in New York City that talked about black gays were less likely to come out to their doctors than white gays, and therefore less likely to be tested for HIV,” Baker said. “What that study didn’t talk about is that there were very few black gay doctors for people to go to. Most of the white gay men in the study were going to white gay doctors.”

Black men feel what Malebranche [David Malebranche, a physician and researcher at Emory University’s School of Medicine] called “racial stress,” sexual prejudice, gender role expectations and difficulties in the medical culture.

Malebranche said that black men, especially on the lower end of the income scale, have difficulty finding doctors they feel comfortable with who understand the unique health risks that gay men face.

Another factor could be a disproportionate amount of depression among black men. Dr. Linda Smith of NAESM said that 70 percent of black gay men develop some level of depression during their lives and most will not seek treatment.

Not one word about individual accountability. Not one word about people solving their own problems.
But lots of words amounting to a parade of absurdities. The best has to be about calling upon successful blacks to leave their high-level jobs to start nonprofits, because there are not enough agencies… Excuse me, but if Black gays are savvy enough to clutter up all the internet dating sites with their inane ads, then they are savvy enough to access a little information on AIDS and how it is transmitted.
‘Agencies’ and ‘programs’ cannot solve all the problems in the world.
I once thought that black MSM was rare outside of prisons, based on the notion that too many black men thought of themselves as too macho to do such a thing.
However, my opinion started changing in 2001, when the St. Louis City health department started putting provocative billboards in black neighborhoods in the city. One showed two suggestively naked black men embracing each other, with the message that one should get tested for HIV. Another showed a black woman, with the caption, “My boyfriend just got out of jail. Should I get tested?”
Eventually, the naked billboard caused such a controversy that all these billboards were changed. They only lasted a month or so.
That, and other things, now make me think that black MSM is more common than I first thought. However, I think this article has it right, in that black MSM behavior isn’t the same as white homosexuality, in that the latter is (IMHO) a lifestyle choice, while the former has to do with them wanting to “relate” with any convenient orifice.

I know it isn’t funny, but that line alomst made me spew my pop. I would go to any doctor who was a good doctor, as I’m expected to as a white man. Why can’t we hold the same expectations for non-whites. Does a doctor really need to understand “being a sick black man” in order to treat one?

The answer is actually quite simple. If you don’t engage in homosexual sexual activities you will NOT become HIV +. Gay blacks and gay white men have high rates of HIV because of their irresponsible actions not because of a “mostly white medical profession.”

Major obstacles are black men who take no personal responsibility for the actions nor understand that their action have both negative and positive consequences.

No matter where they go in the world, Africans are always waiting around for outsiders to do something for them.

Let’s say that they do just that: successful black men decide they would rather serve their local community. As upper management becomes whiter, the company is accused of institutional racism, vilified by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, etc.

I read several months ago in the ” discover” magazine about a scientist who says AIDS/HIV is a wrong diagnosis. You can find his videos online, search for AIDS hoax or HIV cause of AIDS? etc
kind of interesting……. It might be more about money and group selection than people want to think. some northern Euro’s cant even contract HIV, but most Africans are prone to it. It is interesting to watch.
The higher rates of AIDs among african-american men has nothing whatsoever to do with whites, the “white medical establishment”, white doctors, lack of funding or lack of AIDS awareness. AIDS prevention has been put in front of the public for years, anyone should know how to prevent AIDS unless they are living in a cave.
So blacks blame their high AIDS infection rates on the fact that the gov’t is not spending enough of our tax $ to educate blacks on how the disease is spread.
What’s so laughable about all this is that there’s not a single American who doesn’t know that unprotected gay sex is risky. Blacks know this but do it anyway because they’re irresponsible and immature.

I tried to argue, saying AIDS is just a medical condition, a disease, but apparently AIDS is different.

In addition to HIV, the rate of other STDs in the Black community is staggering. I have read statistics that say the syphillis etc rates are very high. This is men, hetro or homosexual, and women.

Yes, you’re right that there are plenty of whites that are sexually promiscuous. However, on average whites are not as promiscuous as blacks and when whites are sexually promiscuous, they are far more likely to use condoms or birth control. If this weren’t true, then black HIV rates wouldnt’ be much higher as AIDS doesn’t discriminate.

Do you honestly believe anything you post? I was in a fraternity in college (only about 3 years ago) and I never saw anything like you are describing. Whites simply do not engage in sexual activity at anywhere near the level that blacks do. And if blacks are really only experiencing these high levels of STD’s because they don’t use condoms then whose fault is that? Condoms are readily available and cheap. I’m sorry but anyone who is dumb enough to have sex with a total stranger these days and not wear a condom deserves whatever they get.
Wait a minute - I thought AIDS was the disease that doesn’t discriminate? Its funny, if anyone would have pointed out that AIDs was largely a black disease early on in the crises, they would have been decried as racist. How dare they stigmatize black men like that. Now that AIDS has reached levels in some black inner-cities that rival African countries, all of a sudden its racism at the heart of the problem.

Many white youth are promiscuous, but black youth are EVEN MORE PROMISCUOUS on average than white youth. Whites (currently) make up the majority of Americans, so you have to look at the difference per capita and consider that blacks make up 12 - 15% of the U.S. population. Most of the social dysfunction in our country at this time is coming from their tribe, with Mestizos in second place.
Blacks, both male and female, have higher testosterone levels on average than whites, and this causes them to have higher sex drives, build muscle easily, and be more confrontational and violent than whites. This is not just my opinion. Check out the scientific research by non-PC, totally objective scientists like Dr. Philippe Rushton who risk their careers to tell the truth.

Rational thinker is not totally wrong. I have friend who is a medical doctor. He told me that since the mid 1990s, he has seen a dramatic increase in the number of White men who contact sexually transmitted diseases. He said that he could just survive alone on just treating these men. Most of them are between 25 -45 years old.
The fact is that many young White men are very promiscuous. A number of other posters on this board have concurred as such.

I remember a huge scandal here in New Jersey about 10 years ago. There were several White males (some were police officers)in their mid 20 to mid 30s who were involved in a pact to see how many Black women they could have sex with in a six month period.
Some of these men were married and a number of these women were under 18. A few of these girls were as young as 14 years old!
They way that some of these men took advantage of these women was disgusting! The graphic testimony that was released to the public was sickening. Two of the men received prison time. Several others received long probation sentences.
My point is that no one should be under the illusion that it is only Black, Latino or non-White men who are running around having wanton sex. There are plenty of White men doing the same thing.
As a white gay man, I follow three rules to ensure my physical wellbeing and health:
1) Always engage in safe sexual practices with partners in a secure relationship.
2) Never have sex with non-White men.
3) Always avoid blacks and hispanics in any situation where they could bash me (it is a well known yet unspoken fact within the gay community that the majority of gay-bashers are blacks and hispanics).
I am a Hispanic woman who lives in Boston. I can attest to the fact that many White males are oversexed beyond belief.
I have taken going to bars with other male friends instead of going alone. The reason for doing this is that when I went out by myself or with girlfriends, I could not go for ten minutes without some horny White guy hitting on me wanting to have sex with me. There were guys of other races who did the same thing but young White men were the worse.
Yes, I know that many White men have problems controlling their libidos.

Putting up a few ‘facts’ from Britain’s tabloid-like media hardly qualifies. I would add that Britain has been flooded with non-Whites. They are probably at the top of the pack here. I would like to see that study. Of the 48 countries in the survey, I am willing to bet that most are Western or Asian countries. Promiscuity in Africa is unbelievable, both from all the antecdotal evidence and from the STD/HIV statistics.

Many people still do not use protection, and as Amren very academically points out in many comparative studies, African Americans (blacks) tend to have more sex as well as stay the least protected.

We had a similar situation here in Indiana involving Police officers in 2005.
There were at least 12 White male police officers who were either demoted, or dismissed from their jobs for engaging in inappropriate behavior with Black women. The media described in graphic detail the extent of seme of the sex acts. A number of these men were outright perverts!
The majority of these women were of age, although I think two were under 18. Several of these men were either married or engaged. It was a disgrace!

These black gay men are apparently engaging in intercourse without a condom—-in almost all cases of HIV in the gay community, it’s intercourse that transmits HIV, especially for the receptive partner. Black gay men apparently can’t be bothered to protect themselves…most European American gay men know this and that’s probably at least part of the reason why it’s so taboo to sleep with a black man in the gay community. It reminds me of that saying: “Once you go black, the White man don’t want you back”.
As someone who has treats sexual addiction, I can honestly say that White men are by far the most sex addicted group out there.

Statistics show that out of wedlock births are higher in red states than blue states. The red states tend to be less ethnically diverse. Some of these red states tend to be overwhelmingly White.
The fact is that there are White men who live to have sex with Asian, Hispanic, and other Non-White women.

I wouldn’t judge the rest of the white men in this country by Boston or Massachusetts. These are ultra liberal areas, where polite culture is in steep decline. Most whites don’t consider these areas typical of American. In my region, small town Mid-South, white men traditionally don’t “bother” women unless asked to. I suggest you take a trip to South Texas to see how women can really be bothered.

Very true they don’t use condoms and women don’t use the proper birth control so their pregancy rates are going to be higher. That is the only difference nothing more.
The CDC in Atlanta tells us that the 13.5% of the country that is (black) or whatever they are calling themselves today, have over 65% of ALL hiv/aids. WHAT ELSE DO NON blacks NEED TO KNOW?

Apparently, so do most white people, because whites almost always stop just short of behaviors that involve exchange of bodily fluids. In reality, most white ‘wild swing parties’ are actually just show-off sessions. ‘Wild sex’, as practiced by whites, is more about tacky underwear, mawkish posings, and nauseating ‘hot-talk’ than go-‘til-everybody-drops-and-somebody-needs-an-ambulance’ body contact. A: Probably not, because I tend to be not attracted to men of that ethnicity. I confess that my original posting may have suggested that my reluctance to engage in sexual activity with men of Asian background is related to safety issues — which it isn’t (it’s just a matter of sexual taste). I refuse to have sex with blacks and hispanics because of both safety concerns and because I tend not to be attracted to them.

I don’t hAve an answer for that either. But perhaps they’re just the same as other silly, thoughtless whites who vote for those same agendas by the millions even though those agendas are damaging to their own interests. Why? You are full of it! As someone who for a brief time was involved in thee swingers lifestyle I can tell you that REAL SEX took place among participants. There was no such thing as people “talking naughty, wearing suggestive underwear,” etc… without having sex. Once again, actual sex took place.
The fact that you would make such an absurd statement makes me wonder how accurate your other statements are.
The fact is that there are men on this board who have posted how they have had sex with Black, Hispanic and other non-White women. I remember one man who referred to himself as Wally Cleaver who said that all he had to do was drive in either his Mercedes or BMW, how some real money and he could get a Black or other non-White woman on the spot.
This same man talked about how he would dumped them when he got tired of them. He even mentioned how he convinced one Black woman to leave her husband for him and then dumped her after he had USED HER for all the sex he wanted from her.
Another man discussed how he had slept around with a number of Black women even those that were married with families(in all fairness, the married women bare some responsibility here too)and caused one couple to get divorced. Such a good guy here isn’t he?
There have been other men as as well who have discussed their sexual escapades with Black, Asian, Latino and other White women.
My point is that if so-called White racially conscious men will sleep with and have sex with non-White women, then what makes you think other men have not or will not?

I must admit that I am convinced that a number of young people of all races are certainly more sexually active with one another than previous generations or at least they are just more open about it.

Excuse me but the black illegitimacy rate is 70% which is more than twice the white illegitimacy rate. If there are more white ‘illegitimates’, its simply because there are more whites. Its the rate we are talking about.

This isn’t true. Today, many of the remaining red states are in the South—the region with the largest population of African-Americans. Admittedly, some of the Northwestern Republican states are almost all white, but they tend to have smaller populations than the larger Northeastern Democratic States.

I don’t deny that some whites engage in “irresponsible, reckless sex”. I just believe that, on average, they’re less likely than blacks to go down that road.
As for which group usually has more sex partners during their lifetime, I can’t answer it any better than BonBon did.
While checking out the African American section of a website I often frequent, I noticed they have two favorite subjects on there. One would be whites, or rather white bashing, and the other favorite subject matter is sex. I noticed that not only the black men, but black women as well, often talk about their booty calls, and another quaint term, which I can’t spell out (F-buddies). These are people who apparently, they see only for sexual contact, and nothing else. I found myself wondering if they even know their last names? Or even cared for that matter.
With such casual attitudes about sex, it is little wonder so many of them rank at the top when it comes to HIV and other STD’s , and also little wonder why 70% of black women have their children out of wedlock, and sometimes have little clue who the baby daddy is without a paternity test.
The most disturbing thing, is how many of them were discussing their keen interest in dating interracially. Black men talking about how sexy some Latinas and White women are, and black women talking about how desirable they find Arab, Indian, and Italian men. It’s seems many of them are all to eager to spread their diseases around with other races.

Nonetheless, it has been my experience that many Whites are very sexually active. They are just more sophisticated about it.

I have also known white men (some) who are only, or primarily, interested in black or Asian women; but I would not assume that they are representative of ALL white men. Or that they are “many”. Here too, there will always be some.

May I please take a moment to address the elephant in the room?
The main reason blacks, and especially gay blacks, are so much more likely to contract STDs is not because they don’t know how to prevent it, or how to seek information or medical care it’s because…..THEY DO NOT CARE!
Got that? These people have absolutely no concern for the quality or quantity of their lives. They don’t care if they’re diseased. They (obviously) don’t care if they’re locked up in prison. They don’t care if they die young.
We cannot help people who care less about themselves than we do. It’s just impossible to achieve.
I know this may sound strange to most of us who take care of our selves and our lives, but think about it: all the evidence is right there. Most of the people in this study could simply care the hell less about their own well-being. Period.
I have to wonder whether the higher rates of substance abuse among blacks is a factor in this. People don’t exactly make good decisions about other matters when they’re blotto; why would they make good ones about whom to sleep with?

There are people who are sex addicts. It is a recognized affliction.
When I first met him, he was crazy about whites. In fact, he tried to pick me up, but we never had sex — we had conversation instead. He was a great conversationalist, knowledgeable in many areas, and extremely charming, could get along with anyone, and he knew a great many people from all walks of life, high and low. At that point,when I met him, he was wild about Americans, the fairer the better, and (like all Mexicans) he adsolutely ADORED blonds. However he didn’t bother with other Latins; and above all, he loathed blacks, shunned them, was rude to them, and even told me he found them somehow less than human.
As time passed, when he reached his forties, his waist was widening and his hair was thinning, white partners (and he needed a lot) became hard to find. Against his preferences, he began consorting with mulattoes — first light Puerto Ricans (whom he would have treated with contempt earlier), then Dominicans (a little darker), then finally blacks.
At this point, he contracted AIDS. It was predictable that it would happen, given the indiscriminate sex he had. And the type of people. Oddly, he was extremely fussy about his health: vitamins, his rest, what he ate, etc., (he would only eat fresh foods, organic, nothing canned or frozen). Everything had to be super fresh. But as fussy as he was about everything else, he was not fussy about sex! —- which was what killed him, not canned food.
I always held my tongue and tried to be a non-judgemental listener. I regret now that I didn’t criticize him. It might have saved his life.
My point here is that people who have sex with blacks may be sexual compulsives who can’t control themselves. And also, if they’re getting older, they may not be able to find anything else, so they take whatever they can get. Just because they settle for it, doesn’t necessarily mean they prefer it. That may explain those people who you say “live to have sex with blacks”. At least some of them.

Remember former repubilcan congressmen Bob Allen of Florida. He hung out in parks where large numbers Black men congregated all the time. He was finally busted when an undercover police officer arrested him for attempting to solicit sex for $20.00.
He then tried to come up with some outlandish defense that ” he feared for his life” despite the fact that frequented the park numerous times and walks inside the bathroom stall and approaches the undercover officer. Most people I know do not frequently return to places where they beleive that their life would be in danger.

I hate to say it, but all the statistics say it for me: that Black and Hispanic men, whether gay or straight, are walking AIDS carriers. The darker, the worse.
For some reason, they also crave the most risky type of sex - anal - which does not appeal to most whites. Me included. The darker races love it. This is a delicate topic that is rarely spoken of.
Thus, in addition to their propensity for violence and theft, they are best avoided like the plague that they carry.
