African-American Leaders Lash Out at English-Only Plan

More news stories on Non-White Pressure Groups

Michael Cass, The Tennessean (Nashville), January 10, 2009

A coalition of groups representing African-Americans, immigrants and other Nashville residents spoke out Friday against the ballot initiative that would require Metro government to do business in English only.

At a news conference outside the Davidson County Election Commission, where early voting on the proposed charter amendment continues today, a series of speakers said the measure would make life harder for immigrants, hurt Nashville’s international image and violate Christian teachings.

The proposal would require all government communications and publications to be conducted in English, though the council could make specific exceptions for health and safety. “No person shall have a right to government services in any other language,” the proposal states.

“It doesn’t make sense socially, economically, spiritually, morally,” Councilwoman Erica Gilmore said. “We are a place of many nations and many people, and we should embrace that.”

Supporters say the change would encourage people to learn and use English; put the onus for language help on individuals, not government; and save the $100,000 or so Metro spends each year on translation and related services, though critics say federal law requires the city to spend most of that.

NAACP takes part

State Rep. Brenda Gilmore, a former councilwoman who is Erica Gilmore’s mother, said the passage of the charter amendment would look strange to the rest of the world after the election of Barack Obama, an African-American.

“We cannot afford to send a message that Nashville and Tennessee is out of step with the rest of the country,” she said.

Groups participating in the event included the Urban League, the NAACP, the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship and the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition.

How much were they paid to make this statement? Don’t laugh, I know someone who worked for a very liberal, very pro black Democratic candidate for our states governor.

Even that campaign had to pay to be allowed to politic at black churches. The pastors reassured the Democrats that they gave the Democrats a good deal, they charged the Republicans double what they charged the Democrats to speak at their churches.

Even communist Gunnar Myrdal concluded that the black clergy and black politicians were the lowest of the low, parasites and did more harm to blacks than they did good.

Blacks oppose English only because Whitey pays most of the taxes for these services, and if something is bad for Whitey, then they will support it even if it harms them.

Nothing but traitors, every last one of these “organizations.”

Of course, the blacks who participated in this outrage are all the more worse, with the exception of the whites who grovel at their feet and suckle at the collective nonwhite rectum. To take the side of the speakers of outlander gibberish, only proves just how alien and unfit all are to live in this country. With the blacks, it is appallingly expected of their normal state of totally worthless and parasitical existence; with the filthy Marxist white fools, it is sickeningly demonstrative of their utter depravity.

I have nothing else to say; other than and as always, God help us all!

I support that proposition 110 percent.

I lived in Northern California for a period of time. Then election ballots were required to be written in English, Spanish, Mandarian Chinese, Cantonese Chinese, Japanese, Tagalog (the Filipine language), and if memory serves me well, Portugese. An economic and logistical nightmare.

We speak English in America. That is our native tongue. A common launguage is the bridge to a common culture. We don’t need the social and political fractiousness wrought by linguistically ankle biting immigrants.

No we are not. The United States is a White, English speaking, Christian, Capitalist culture. For our sin of enslaving others we have 35 million blacks among us, but essentially they are English speaking Christians as well. I will not embrace the end of my culture, country, and race.

WRONG! We are ONE NATION: The United States of America. One Nation. And the thing about a Nation is that it has a specific language. The tongue through which its citizens communicate.

I am just waiting for some knucklehead to claim that Tennessee once belonged to Mexico.

English Only is the only policy that makes any sense. Even the CIA cannot accomodate every language spoken in the world, and it is their job to do so…..not state or local government in Tennessee. Show me another country in the entire friggin World that expects every jurisdiction to provide translation services for every language brought by legal immigrants….much less the illegal variety.

I always knew it was a strategic mistake for nationalists to fight to make English the official language of the United States.

Making Hottentots, Amazonian pygmies, 7 foot Watusis, Haitian voodoo priests, and assorted browns/yellows/blacks speak English, makes them more able to integrate into the mainstream of American life and cause a lot more trouble.

Non-whites should be encouraged and subsidized NOT to speak English.

Only when Whites know themselves to be totally marginalized and feel they are disenfranchised proletariat can they be united to take back America. Having only Whites speaking English is critical to the process.

Conversely I have come across all sorts of White immigrants to America, who have learned English with enthusiasm and with no prompting.

I am constantly amazed at the way blacks root for immigrants, especially illegals. Even the most unskilled and illerate immigrants look down on blacks. Yet blacks see immigrants as allies in their preceived war against whites. If Obama, who blacks see as a savior, opens the borders, as he may well do, blacks will lose jobs to illegals who usually work harder and for less. Obams has zero in common with American blacks but most blacks don’t understand this. The haven’t looked past his skin color. Blacks may one day well regret their near total support for Obama. But then again, maybe they lack the preception to do so.

Why would that make us look strange? Obama speaks excellent English. I wish other Blacks spoke English that well.

What does the election of Barack Obama have to do with this issue? He speaks English.

I can tell the Gilmores are black because this is typical black reasoning. Barack Obama is an American and speaks no language other than English. All ‘African-Americans’ are American by definition and very few speak any language other than English.

Can anyone explain to me what one thing has to do with the other? Why would having a black man as president have anything to do with whether or not we decide to have English as our official language?

To put it another way, what does having a black man as president have to do with the price of tea in China?

Under the Kennedy immigration act, we began accepting and welcoming the worst of societal dregs, not engineers or scientist, but uneducated, illiterate, criminal types, a lot of these people are probably not able to learn English, are not even literate in their own language, it would only be a pipe dream to expect them to speak our language.

In an era of economic downsizing, it makes no sense to print ballets in a dozen different languages. Knowledge of English should be mandatory for voting. Blacks stubbornly refuse to vote their own interest and support their dispossession by Hispanics.
It’s hard to feel any sympathy for them.

They’re just doing it for the same reason they
always do. They take an adversarial position to

anything Whites are viewed to support is viewed
by them as an epic struggle.

Nothing infuriates me more than when I call my meds. company and the first question, in English, is “If you prefer to speak in English please press 1”.
I ignored it when I last called, I didn’t press 1 and expected the voice to change to Mandarin Chinese,Urdu,Swahili or even Spanish! Surprisingly the robo-voice continued in English. I’m wondering if this isn’t some kind of survey to check on the numbers of English speakers in the US.
Arc.

Not only are American Blacks looked down upon, but they are soon passed by every immigration group that comes here. Even the Caribbean Blacks and the Africans that come here within in a generation are better off than the American Blacks.

Maybe the American Blacks don’t want to climb the social economic ladder for fear of loosing their victim status. It must really be a struggle to maintain a position at the bottom of the ladder generation after generation.

Such a knee-jerk, Pavlovian reaction on the part of blacks. If Whites are for it they must oppose it. You would think the blacks in the deep south ddin’t speak English too or something..

19 — Anonymous wrote at 7:04 AM on January 14:

English Only policy sounds too white for Blacks who hate anything that smacks of whiteness. This is just anti-white animus.

20 — Anonymous wrote at 1:07 PM on January 16:

This is opposition politics. Many blacks have a difficult time with english, how would they fare with other languages? Clearly worse. Bizarre and nilistic. Where is the leadership to a brighter future? Where is the vision? This is a dysfunctional society made worse with the active government support for these crazy notions.
