As it prepares to turn 100, the Boy Scouts of America is honing its survival skills for what might be its biggest test yet: drawing Hispanics into its declining—and mostly white—ranks.
“We either are going to figure out how to make Scouting the most exciting, dynamic organization for Hispanic kids, or we’re going to be out of business,” said Rick Cronk, former national president of the Boy Scouts, and chairman of the World Scout Committee.
The venerable Scouts remains the United States’ largest youth organization, with 2.8 million children and youths, nearly all of them boys. But that is nearly half its peak membership, reached in 1972.
Its rolls took hits through the 1980s and ’90s over a still-standing ban on gay or atheist leaders, and scandals surrounding inflated membership numbers. In addition, teenagers raised on TV and shoot-’em-up games had less use for learning to build a campfire or memorize the Scout oath.
The country changed too. One in five children under 18 is Hispanic, according to the U.S. Census. But they make up only 3 percent of Scouts.
Cronk made Hispanic outreach a focus after he realized that just translating brochures into Spanish, or combining Cub Scouting with soccer, was not enough to meet the goal of doubling Hispanic membership by the group’s centennial in 2010.

So the group set out to sell Scouting, hiring a Washington-based media and marketing company that targets Latinos. To spread the word, the Scouts gathered a committee of Hispanic leaders, including the CEO of AT&T’s wireless unit, a U.S. senator from Florida and the archbishop of the Diocese of Laredo.
In 2009, the Boy Scouts is kicking off pilot programs in six heavily Latino cities, from Fresno, Calif. to Orlando, Fla., to test ways of introducing Scouting to immigrant parents. The group is also planning radio and television spots, hiring bicultural, Spanish-speaking staffers, partnering with churches that serve Hispanics and shaping programs to fit the family-oriented community.
“We’re serious about this,” said Rob Mazzuca, Chief Scout Executive. “This is a reinventing of the Boy Scouts of America.”
To work, the changes will have to run deep, said Julio Cammarota, a University of Arizona professor who has researched Hispanic youth.
Scouts will have to work with Latinos’ strong family connections and relax the focus on individual achievement, Cammarota said. Creating activities where younger boys learn from the older ones—much as they rely on siblings and cousins within the extended family—will also feel more comfortable.

As the wave of Third World immigration sweeps over America, most of the former cultural practices of the former European-derived peoples will be destroyed — replaced by the cultural practices of the Third World immigrants.
The end result of massive Third world immigration into the USA will be Third World status for what was previously called the USA.
I’m not buying this. How are Hispanic kids any less preoccupied with the same things white kids are?
I mean, it’s not logical that if white kids have dropped out they can’t get them back with a vigorous recruitman program, but somehow they can get Hispanics?
This looks like another multicult using an illogical, flimsy excuse to reduce white participation.
So now even the Boy Scouts needs to be “reinvented” to placate and woo the children of a largely illegal invasion of alien peoples into our midst. The mass-suicide of the white race continues apace…
If Mr. Cronk does a good job of recruiting Hispanics soon they will outnumber Whites and put a Hispanic in his place. He will lose his job regardless.
As far as Hispanics joining the Boy Scouts I doubt many will join. The Boy Scouts are not considered manly and to a culture that emphasize “machismo” you will see few Hispanic males join. Hispanics males are the group that are the most likely to join criminal gangs and these gangs do not put an emphasis on knot- making and bird calls or first aid.

What seems to be happening here is that the Scouts are going to convert themselves into a soccer school in order to attract Hispanic kids.
I rarely post anything here anymore. It’s the avalanche of stories like this that just suck the wind out of me. What is there to say? What is there to do? It’s all out of hands. I can’t even pick up a can of soup without having to navigate through Spanish print. I’d rather see the entire country go up in flames than turn it over to these mestizo invaders.
If a large portion of children in the USA are Hispanic, it only makes sense to have a large portion of the Boy Scouts of America Hispanic. How else will they replace members who age out?
Reinventing the Scouts does mean the end. Why is it Whites are losing interest? Did the leaders ever think to do some market research with real Americans? If you aren’t serving them, you are out of business.
Jared Taylor has written about the myth of hispanic family values. The reconstituted taco scouts will not embrace family and country because the hispanics do not. Instead of merit badges the kids will have merit tatoos, and wear hair nets instead of caps. To raise cash they’ll sell cookies with that special extra ingredient.
So they will go out of business without minorities because whites are responsible stewards when it comes to Earth and are actually shrinking in population. Why do Liberals never talk about the world population problems when it comes to race? The Boy Scouts should be trying to preserve any wild, untouched forest. They can not do that now because that involves talking about the population explosion of non whites.
2.8 million members and scouting is on the ropes? Hardly. This is nothing more than an attempt to destroy what is, and always has been a Christian, Caucasian organization.
It is absurd to believe that a system that was created and prospered with one culture should automatically be transferable to another culture. In this instance, scouting, has about as much compatibility with the US hispanic culture as does alpine climbing.
The following list of purported attributes of hispanics from the article would not even forthcoming from a poll of hispanics themselves…especially discipline???:

As an eagle scout, I think the remark that scouting is finished without hispanics is absurd. To put it plainly, so what that membership is half what it was from 30 years ago. 2.8 million members at present is still quite high. Plus I believe it better to have an organization that sticks to its core original values even if that decreases membership than have a larger watered down organization. If it becomes watered down then it’s not worth saving and not worth even belonging to. The Boy Scouts need to realize that nothing is wrong with having a smaller committed organization if that becomes the case. With regards to their outreach, if the Boy Scouts hold on to their values, perhaps it may make some young hispanics good citizens. But the cynic in me doubts that scouting will have any meaningful impact on hispanics in general, I suspect that the street culture still has a negative impact on hispanic troops. There is probably a reason those attracted to scouting tend to be whites and asians.

Too bad. I was planning on enrolling my 2 year old son in Scouts when he got old enough. I don’t want him being part of some “reinvented” Scouts that promotes “diversity.” This is the same problem that seems to be affecting the GOP and American churches: they think that in order to stay viable they need to get “hip”, i.e. get more minorities involved and have church services where people wear blue jeans and sing pop songs. What they don’t realize is that the answer is to do the exact opposite. I am a man in my young 20s who used to be an active member of the GOP and my local church. Now I am apathetic. Why be a part of a party that stands for nothing? Why go to a church that has relaxed attitudes so much that it is like going to the mall? The way to revive these institutions is to return to their roots and stand for something. Young families such as mine aren’t looking for something “hip”; we can find that anywhere.
I know the New America just doesn’t get it, but 1907, when Baden-Powell founded the Scouts in England, was a time when people had ethnic roots and racial interests.
From a racialist point of view, Boy Scouting could be used to strengthen feelings of kinship and service to the race, as well to develop personal responsibility and leadership.

The Boy Scouts is essentially a white thing. If the changes must ‘run deep,’ we simply no longer have the Scouts.

This organization is one of the last resources we have that teach young people the true values and skills that make a person worth while as well as being a true American and what it means to be one. The Voortrekkers (http://www.voortrekkers.org.za) are the South African version of the boy scouts, and they have continued to thrive even though they cater only to white Afrikaans-speaking children, who amount to only about 5% of the demographic. They have not felt the need to expand into other ethnic groups and lose their cohesion.
There’s no law against Hispanic leaders creating a Latino-oriented scouting corps for themselves.
The upbringin of boys was of supreme importance in ancient Greece and Rome. The educational methods were much more of a discipleship nature than a classroom. The entire personality of a boy was taken into account.

A merit badge for littering would be the best way to attract Hispanics.
Boy Scouts will always be de facto white because it generally requires a high degree of volunteerism from the boy’s fathers which necessarily rules out certain groups.
I really liked the boy scouts as a kid, but a lot of the activities we were engaged in were quite dangerous and I am sure if minorities had been involved people would be killed. Stuff like learning how to right capsized boats, clay pigeon shooting and mountain climbing are things that requires a great deal of supervision and attention.
I don’t see how the scouts could possible “go out of business” as long as you have a couple of tents a couple of parents willing to volunteer a few weekends than you can have your own boyscouts.
Older Hispanics have become somewhat skilled at hiking through the deserts of the southwest. Maybe they can be taught that a good scout doesn’t leave soiled diapers in America’s beautiful desert lands.

Unfortunately, too many whites still donate to the United Way and similar charities which have stopped passing funds on to the Boy Scouts. So, in reality, like all white losses, many of our own are not even aware of the damage they are doing.
All these companies that indicate they’re going to send money to Africa and other poor areas around the globe to save the less fortunate do not get my business if I can help it. First homosexuals were admitted as troop leaders and now this. Is any group with undesirables and sorted types really worth keeping? Hardly. They need to go out of business. If Mr. Cronk is determined to do all of this good in the world, he should move to Mexico and adopt 20 orphaned Black and Hispanic children and care for them around the clock.
In the interim, I do not think many sane, rational Whites want their children to be supervised by adult perverts (homosexuals) or attending meetings with high-risk individuals (Hispanics) who hold a lower set of standards and values.
I never thought I would come to the point where I would hate my country, but I am there now. What was once a symbol of pride to me has now become a symbol of oppression and the destruction of my people. I remember coming across two Boy Scout handbooks in a bookstore a few years back. One was from 1962 - when you opened the book, on the very first page, there was a message about how scouting was carrying on the tradition of Davey Crockett, Kit Carson and other great American settlers and explorers.
Then I opened the handbook from around 1990. Very first page - advice on how to avoid Aids and how we should tolerate people with Aids.
This is how the Boy Scouts “adapt” to modern society.
The problem is that Boy Scouts of America is a big business. It is the one of the few nonprofits that I am aware of (outside of religions and unions) that offers a career path that could theoretically cover your entire life. Many of the people at the top levels of the Boy Scouts literally don’t know how to do anything else. So, just like a religion or union, Boy Scout leadership needs more members to ensure their personal financial security — damn the organization’s mission or the welfare of its existing supporters!
I totally believe that these “concerns” that Boy Scout leadership has, are influenced from above. I haven’t the slightest doubt that it’s just the usual social engineering that has been going on for at least sixty plus years.
The communist agenda calls for corrupting and debasing every American institution of value from marriage to the scouts. This is nothing new and their decades of hard work is paying off.
Just as the threat of being called a racist has inexplicably silenced whites from speaking the truth about minorities, so too has the threat of being accused of McCarthyism silenced whites from speaking out against domestic communism.
It is time for whites to stop groveling at the feet of our domestic enemies and initiate a backlash that will reverberate around the world. If our liberty, heritage and prosperity isn’t worth taking up arms and fighting for, then what is?

One thing not mentioned in this article is that, in recent years, activities that are both optional and require one leaving one’s house have declined sharply, especially among the young. Amvets, American Legion, VFW, Elks, Lions, Kiwanis, Ham Radio, etc. etc. — are way down. What the Boy Scouts have going for them is that there are still 2.8 million scouts, I’m surprised it’s not way less.
It will become way less if the scouts become racial liberals. White parents will avoid the scouts in droves, thereby turning the Scouts’ own worries into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
