Like other Somali activists, the spiritual leader is struggling with the dramatic violent crime increase in his community. Since December, seven Somali men under 30 have been slain in the Twin Cities. The motive in three of the cases may have been retaliation.

The Somali crime problem has become a high priority for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, who said he spent much of Tuesday meeting with top city leaders and community outreach workers to discuss how to apply the city’s youth violence prevention plan to the Somali community. But he doesn’t want the rash of homicides to overshadow the incredible accomplishments Somalis have achieved in Minneapolis.
“Community leaders and police are saying we’ve reached a point where we need to do things right now,” said Police Chief Tim Dolan, who was at the meeting.

Throughout the year, each new homicide triggered a round of community meetings. Last Friday, the Abuubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center in Minneapolis hosted a forum that addressed many of the same issues Muhidin raised. Why the violence has escalated this year is unclear.
Isolation a factor

Hassan, an attorney who is also an immigration law advocate, said he could tick off 15 reasons for the rising violence in the Somali community. A key problem is lack of cultural educational programs for Somali youth. They can feel isolated and might form or join a gang to fulfill their needs, he said. And getting caught doing crime can harm their immigration status, he said. A lack of government funding for immigrant youth programs also is a problem, he said. More money is allocated to how to deal with crime instead of preventing it, he said.
To that end, police departments need to do a better job to learn about Somali culture, and Somalis have to understand police procedure, he said.
The struggles in the Somali community mirror what Hmong immigrants went through when they moved to the Twin Cities in the 1980s, said Minneapolis First Precinct Inspector Janee Harteau, who defended the department’s efforts.

Last month, a new liaison in the department started to work with the Somali community to funnel information citywide. Police have held monthly meetings with Somali elders, organized crime prevention workshops, placed spots on Somali radio and television stations and recently hired its first Somali officer, she said. The biggest problem is identifying the Somali leadership, so Harteau is trying to gather a core group she can contact during critical incidents.
Most killings unsolved
Police were frustrated by the lack of cooperation during the investigation of the death of Ahmednur Ali, the Augsburg College student who was killed the day he started to work at the Brian Coyle Center in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. There were many witnesses, but it took time to convince them to come forward, police said. When Abdishakur Hassan was shot to death at a market a week later, people appeared more willing to talk to police.
It appears three of the homicides may have been motivated by retaliation for previous shootings and could be gang-related, police said. Charges have been filed in three of the seven homicides.

At his mosque in St. Paul, Hassan offers weekend activities that bring in 150 high school and college students. He has devoted most of his life to helping youth become leaders who make positive change because “my faith pushes me to do this.” Hassan and two of his students are planning an anti-violence conference for the Somali community in Columbus, Ohio before their problems grow to the level of Minnesota, he said.

Geez, these africans have the same problems no matter where they reside…poverty, disease, staggering violence.
When are the idiot leftists going to realize this is a genetic problem and stop forcibly integrating these, ahem, “people” with millions of us hard working people who do not want to be anywhere near them?
The solutions are the same. More help. More money. More programs. More intervention. More education. More outreach.
The real problem is these people believe there’s a solution out there that just hasn’t been found or tried.
I’m just positive the Somali ‘yutes are just eager sponges for education. This should be a snap.

If they believe the Somalis are going to acculturate the way the Hmong did, they are misguided. The Hmong are inherently a reclusive people given to living in the mountains of Laos. The Somalis are an inherently violent population currently under scrutiny for piracy.
Why is it always africans and hispanics who are drawn to violence because of ‘cultural issues’ and due to feelings of ‘isolation’. I wish there was a comparison of the crime rate of the Hmong and the Somali communities. I bet the Hmong, though a backward mountain people who were traumatized by war is much lower. You just cannot deceive biology. Why escalation of crime? Because there was probably an increase of Somalis in the area.

According to Mark Potak of the Southern Poverty Law Center and Abe Foxman of the ADL, this kind of non-white crime pales in significance to what occurs by white supremacists.

I have the perfect solution for the somali problem, but nobody wants to hear it. What have these people contributed to this country besides plenty of work for grave diggers? It has come to the point in this country, either you contribute something positive or you need to get the Hell out. We do not want your hungry, our welfare is stretched beyond relief. We do not want your tired, read the above reason. We do not want your poor, we are poor enough without you making it worse. We do not want your cheap labor, there aren’t enough jobs for citizens. I work a flexible schedule so I see the same thing.
Their kids aren’t being educated because they’re walking the streets with basketball in hand or doing nothing but hanging out and playing lookout for drug deals.
We get the scavenger bottle collectors who and the guy who does nothing but stop at the convenience store to buy 40oz can of beer. (If he has a job, I can’t imagine what it could be or when he works. I have seen him downtown coming out of the social services building.) The crazy black guy who stands on the corner mumbling to himself. Starting in the late afternoon (after school lets out) the drug dealers walking the streets very and try to push their drugs.
And you’re right, I noticed the same thing. They all come out starting at about 10 am when they know the coast is clear. I live in a majority white neighborhood with an increasing number of blacks and hispanics but on some days after 10 am, the majority of people on the street are black and hispanic and you would think this was a majority black and hispanic neighborhood.

I have no sympathy for a state that would even CONSIDER the insanity of electing Al Franken to represent them in congress—and it looks like he may steal the election. The very idea should have been laughed at, mocked, debased. Now it looks like he will be the new Marxist senator from Minnesota.

Right you are. However, although it’s technically illegal here, Somalis are not well known for their high standard of law compliance. Thus, I wouldn’t doubt for a minute that it’s happening here anyway - legal or illegal. It’s a lot cheaper to do-it-yourself than a plane ticket.

I’m assuming that by “leftists” RJS means white leftists. Unfortunately, these white leftists never will realize the extent of the genetic problem. Leftists, in my opinion, are not so much idiots as they are mentally-challenged individuals who inhabit an insular private world devoid of all contact with reality. They’re sort of stuck in a post adolescent phase of quasi adulthood, much like a university sort of existence - in fact, exactly like a university existence.
These are largely well-behaved white boys and girls who come from well-behaved white communities who believe deep down inside that they will always have access to the peace and solace of those white communities should they ever encounter any adversity in life. Because of this actual and psychological “safety net”, these white kids love and cherish their encounters with “diversity” at university. Because of their still latent immaturity, they adore all elements of the “chic”, the “cool”, and the pure substanceless bombast of the “diverse crowd”. These kids have no problem with diversity because they can always go running back to mommy and daddy if they get slapped by the diverse crowd. But in general even the diverse crowd is relatively well behaved at university since that social setting has an almost soporific effect on the otherwise nasty dispositions of the diverse crowd.
Treated to delusion, unreality, and immaturity, it’s so easy to see why white kids gobble up the leftist university nonsense. Unfortunately however, these same university kids often become university professors and then foist their childhood delusions, unrealities, and immaturities onto another generation of white kids. And if these same kids enter “public and political life”, they then foist their immature nonsense onto the bureaucratic culture of this country.
Either way, we have two major insular settings in society, the university and the political bureaucracy, controlled by virtual buffoons who haven’t a clue as to the real nature of the social crises emanating from the “diverse population” of this country. Sad indeed.
