Facebook, Myspace, Youtube Are ‘Recruiting Tools for Hate Groups’

news.com.au (Sydney), November 19, 2008

THE popular websites MySpace, Facebook and YouTube are being used as recruiting tools by extremist groups, experts have warned.

“(These websites) are the ‘killer apps’ of the internet today, and they’re used by millions, but the virus of hate certainly has infected those technologies,” Christopher Wolf, chair of the International Network Against CyberHate (INACH), told the Global Summit on Internet Hate Speech.

“The internet toolbox that is available to hatemongers has had a number of new items added to it over the last several years,” Mr Wolf said, citing Web 2.0 features such as blogs, social networks, video sites and instant messaging.

Deborah Lauter, national director of civil rights for the Anti-Defamation League, said extremist groups “use these social-networking sites and they create a community, a community of hate and it has very real consequences.”

Ms Lauter cited the case of an Oklahoma woman who was shot dead this month, allegedly by a member of the white supremacist Ku Klan Klan, after being recruited through MySpace.

The woman was killed after she apparently changed her mind and tried to flee a Ku Klux Klan initiation rite, according to police in Louisiana.

Stefan Glaser, co-founder of anti-hate group INACH, said that with Web 2.0 tools “the effect of hate is getting broadened.”

“Neo-Nazis are very well aware of social network platforms for recruiting the next generation, for infiltrating youth groups,” said Mr Glaser, who runs Jugendschutz.net, the German bureau for protecting minors online.

“On YouTube, for example, there are thousands of hate videos that are uploaded with messages of racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and intolerance towards minorities,” said Mr Wolf, a lawyer and expert in internet law.

“There are sites on Facebook and MySpace that promote civil rights but there are many, many more that demonize Jews and Muslims and Gays and other minorities,” he said.

“All of that is prohibited by the operators of Facebook and MySpace in the terms of service,” he said.

“If we report these sites to the operators of these services they often are removed.

“But for every site that we can report and get taken down there is at least one other site to replace it and often many others,” Mr Wolf added.

Brian Marcus, an analyst for the US Department of Homeland Security, said “extremists and terrorists are just like the other users of electronic media.”

“They adapt to the new ways and the new technologies with incredible speed,” he said, warning that “these emerging medium give scale, scope and speed and a new dimension to terrorism and extremism unlike anything seen in the past.”

Most of the people in this article are expressing opinions. They may be repugnant IMHO, but they’re still opinions. Except for this Brian Marcus character, who is giving official Federal government imprimatur to slandering those who express un-PC race opinions as terrorists. He personally and HLS are opening themselves for lawsuits.

Wow, is there nothing in between the two extremes? You’re either promoting “civil rights” or you’re promoting “hate?” I thought there was a whole range of views on these sites, from far left extremism to far right. The people obviously live in a bipolar universe.

Thank God there is now a way for race realists to get out the truth about black on white crime and violence. 1.5 million black on white crimes per year are totally covered up by the media.

As for the ADL, it is an anti white hate group. It helps fund and sponsor Tim Wise’s “whites must be eliminated” seminars and speeches.

“Extremist groups?” Do they mean like the leftist nutcases who attack speakers who have a different point of view or the ones who run through the streets with no clothes on, throwing molotov cocktails at the police, in protest of globalism, global warming, or the lost habitat of the green back snail, and capitalist profits?

The only danger from extremist groups I’ve seen are the leftist, violent radicals who are engaged in violence.

Everything else are complete fabrications from people who are brainwashed to the point of insanity.

Martin Luther King Jr and Barry Goldwater both implied they were proud of being an ‘extremist’. MLK even said “maybe what the world needs right now is an extremist”. I guess we’re not living in MLK times…

I read one today online I thought was pretty interesting… it read “kill diversity”.

“Extremist groups,” “hatemongers,” blah, blah, blah. Round up the usual straw men, which of course go carefully undefined except as supposedly preaching “hate.” Why when such articles are written by the media does it never occur to the reporter to wonder if these liberal “watchdogs” are merely trying to silence those with whom they have ideological disagreements?

And by the way: What precisely is this “hate” that these people keep warning us about? Why don’t they ever give us a specific definition of it? While they’re at it, they could do the same for the word “racism.” Or is it like the famous explanation a supreme court justice once gave about “pornography”: “I can’t define it, but I know it when I see it.”

We’ll be seeing more of these kind of stories under an Obama regime. And please enjoy your free internet access while you can—it’s days are numbered. You’ll be telling your grandkids about the old days when there we’re open forums, like Amren, and they will just look at you as if you’re crazy.

‘recruiting tools by extremist groups’
I don’t think this statement is fair, sure this is a social networking site so yes you can find like minded people (at varying levels of maturity and sophistication).
But the decision is always your own in terms of who you communicate with. And I have never been approached by any such group, though I am attracted to conservative thought.
And there is alot of anti-white and anti-conservative sentiment also within (not mentioned in this article of course).
Look at most conservative video’s and these days you’ll find alot of pro-Obama gloating.
See example: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=e1aCXMgephw
It is free expression at it’s best.
Which of course this is dangerous to ‘the powers that be’, people thinking for themselves and discussing their ideas freely.
Plus there is not alot of money being made by anyone off the content.
I Know find it alot more entertaining and educational than my $120 per month cable television subscription (whose days are numbered).

The only hate I see is for those who didn’t want to vote for Obama. I’m sure these hate-investigators are moving to get right on top of that. On top of these haters who didn’t vote for Obama, that is.

11 — Anonymous wrote at 10:03 PM on November 20:

Blacks are something like 20 times more likely to commit violence against whites, while 2 to 3 times more likely to commit officially designated hate crimes (which is itself worthy of ‘equal justice’ investigation).

It’s a good thing they are right on top of that with this article about ‘hate’ here…

Mr. Wolf, a lawyer and expert in internet laws says, “There are sites on Facebook and MySpace that promote civil rights but there are many, many more that demonize Jews and Muslims and Gays and other minorities.”

What about the thousands of Hollywood movies, big movies not little mom & pop production web sites, that demonize white people. “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “In the Heat of the Night” are just two blockbusters still sending out the message for over fifty years that white people are demons.

When Stefan Glaser, Deborah Lauter, and Christopher Wolf use some of the million of dollars they collect to watch dog the MSM for their hate the white race messages, then we can take them seriously.

And if there is anything really dangerous afoot in America it is Brian Marcus and his Homeland Secret Police who are itching to kill the internet on the pretext that it is spewing hate too often.

This is very concerning to me. They say protecting minorities but I live in South Africa, bet you $100 Million, I will not receive that protection because I am part of a white minority. They could in fact silence any form of communication we have with the outside world and any anti white hate speech will not be included in this virus, they will only target white groups and white groups only. Free speech must be insured.

Ho hum. The usual anti-white bigots are trying to keep white folks from meeting up as white folks. Any identity is fine with these haters and bigots, so long as it isn’t the genuine identity that all white people have: our unique genotype and unique phenotype on this dark planet.

22 — Brett Stevens wrote at 9:01 AM on November 21:

The paradox of “freedom”: it enables people to do whatever they want, including things that threaten “freedom.”

This is why no serious political leader uses it except as a selling point. In reality-land (far away from USA), governments think in terms of privileges and the assessment of actions as whether they get us closer to or farther away from a goal. Only in wartime do democracies approach this clarity.

If we have “freedom,” it should be legitimate for people to wage warfare against geranium owners if they please. But that offends those who think “freedom” means “freedom to keep the peace, and everyone else gets excluded.”

I am against any movement that promotes any sort of violence or what I consider REAL hate. But most of these groups expressing themselves on these mediums are more than likely harmless; they are just trying to act as a voice for white people and rightfully so. As for the author claiming that these groups suddenly seem to be growing; well what does he expect? When you push whites against the wall, they WILL react. I am surprised it has taken this long.

This kind of Marxist thinking will lead to claims that “The virus of hate has infected the thoughts of whites” and mass forced lobotomies will become the order of the day. The average defeatist poster to this site will whine and moan about it but do nothing whatsoever to stop it. Apparently they would rather die on their knees complaining than die on their feet fighting.

The worst thing is that many rationalists and others are getting banned for merely beeing critical of or poking fun at religions or religion in general. This is falsely beeing called racism and hate speech, and we are beeing banned and silenced in the name of P.C. ‘religious tolerance”. Tolerance is good, but that also extends to those with intolerant opinions. This is not even about tolerance to them, it’s about silencing anyone with an umpopular opinion about religion! It’s not toelrance they are themselves endorsing but their own brand of intolerance.

But, even with racist or prejudiced speech. People have a right to it. I despise racism and racists mkyself, but I still think they have the right to speak/express their vile opinions.
This political correction is a threat and danger to freedom, democracy, justice, and humanity!
