School Says 4 Confessed to Obama Effigy

More news stories on Hate Crimes and Hoaxes

AP, September 30, 2007

A Christian university in Oregon said Tuesday it has punished four students who confessed to hanging a likeness of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama from a tree on campus.

{snip}

A statement from [George Fox University] said the penalties against the four students were “immediate long-term suspension and public service.” The school cited federal privacy rules in not disclosing more about the students or their punishment.

The FBI is investigating whether any civil rights were violated.

Felton said the university’s own investigation led to the four students. “To the best of our knowledge these are the only people involved,” he said. “We’re not pursuing it any further.”

“Regardless of the students’ intent, the image of a black man hung from a tree is one of the most hurtful symbols of racism in American history,” Lau said in the statement [Brad Lau, the university’s vice president of student life]. “Displays such as this have no place on a campus that is dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus.”

Hmmmm. Something tells me if four Black students hung an effigy of President Bush, they would simply be expressing their free speech rights. When will Whites wake up?

It makes you consider what will happen when Barrack steps into the white house. Those who slander him will be prosecuted by the FBI. If you were to burn his effigy in public like has happened with previous presidents the protestors will be sent to jail for civil right violations. Onward to a “new” paradigm of government.

“Displays such as this have no place … that is dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus.”

Is this statement about the place where Obama worshipped in Chicago?

Is it about the teachings of the “Reverend” Sharpton or Jackson?

Is it relevant to the sermons of Louis Farrakhan?

Ohhhh, this is at a predominately White college. That makes it damnable.

“long term suspension and public service” I`m trying to figure out how this works exactly. You`re fired but we need you to do some volunteer work?!? Why would anyone show up for that? What`s the payoff? Really can`t figure this one out… Public service to MAYBE get back in a school you probably wouldn`t want to return to regardless?

Since they didn’t mention the race you can be sure it is yet another anti-white hoax crime by the usual suspects.

Bring on the Obama nation! We deserve it.

Posted by Bernie at 6:41 PM on October 1

My God, doesn’t the FBI have anthing better to do nowadays, then investigate the unruly behavior, or silly actions of some teens? Are we really at that point in this nation?

Posted by at 6:55 PM on October 1

The FBI is the multi-Cult communist inforcer agency, it is the personal secret police of the un-civil rights mobvements and its leaders.

Why is the FBI investigateing “civil rights” over hanging of a Obama likeness? That is just insane freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought, freedom of expression no longer mean any thing in this nation. When people were protesting Bush back in 2006 during Iraq war protest. They had poster of him being a monkey, and they hanged card board pictures of him to poles. But there was no FBI investigations into any of that.

And the school taking action against the four kids who hung the likeness of “the great one” Obama. When could you get suspended for that? I guess protesting the likeness of Obama is a crime. Collages run wild with support for anti-white agendas. Just look at Havard with that professor thinking its better if whites die out. There are more serious things the “FBI/Multi-cult/KGB/Mossad/Secret Service of the On-civil rights movement should be foucussing on. Oh thats right to teh FBI any thing that hurts the feelings of a non-white is top priority.

The FBI and government is owned lock stock and barrel to the non-white haters.

Well what, pray tell, does the image of a gang raped white woman hold in terms of a “hurtful symbol of racism in American history”?

Posted by Flaxen-headed Strumpet at 7:15 PM on October 1

The FBI is investigating whether any civil rights were violated.

This spells bad news for the students. “Civil rights violations” is a catch-all category that can be used for anything. I read of an instance a few weeks ago where a couple of law-enforcement officers were charged with violating someone’s “civil rights” because they allegedly swindled some money out of the guy.

“The FBI is investigating whether any civil rights were violated.”

Is this to say that a cardboard picture has civil rights that can be violated?

Posted by Lost in Paradise at 7:41 PM on October 1

“Regardless of the students’ intent, the image of a black man hung from a tree is one of the most hurtful symbols of racism in American history,”

Mr Lau, how do you feel about the image of a white man hung from a tree?

Posted by Mike Harrigan at 8:44 PM on October 1

“Displays such as this have no place on a campus that is dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus.”

Perhaps if this cardboard cutout of Obama was pinned to a cross, these race betrayers would turn the other cheek. Get it? Ripe with metaphor.

They will probably get a lifetime criminal record. And yet these college students could have burned an American flag and there would have been no problem. Hundreds of college students burned flags in the 1960s and they were lauded as heroes.

“Regardless of the students’ intent, the image of a black man hung from a tree is one of the most hurtful symbols of racism in American history,”

Millions of Americans have lost their lives in countless wars (in many of which the American flag was burned) so I would certainly consider flag burning to be a “hurtful” symbol. Yet that is protected as “free speech.”

Double standards, double standards…

I’m not buying it. I bet they’re all libs, trying to stir up public sympathy both for Obama and against this Act Six.

Posted by Question Diversity at 9:39 PM on October 1

If these students had protested generic war and slandered John McCain as a war criminal they would have been deemed heroes by the media, although not necessarily at the Fox University. A burning effigy doesn’t really bother me, but I think those Sara Palin blow up dolls are a bit weird.

There are not many liberals, really. Any liberal would immediately dismiss this as a vulgar, but constitutionally protected expression of opinion. The “liberals” are mostly Reds, enemies of liberty, and the race that created it.

This is a very curious story. It raises the possibility that the four perps were not from among the diverse white American students. The story is carefully crafted not to disclose the demographics of the perps and one phrase in particular (“Regardless of the students’ intent, the image of a black man hung from a tree is one of the most hurtful symbols of racism in American history…”) has never been used before when “white racists” were the perps.

This sounds more and more like a hoax with four non-white students doing the deed to awaken other students to the prevalence of racism, blah, blah.

The only novel feature of this story is that the hoaxers (if they are) are not excused, pardoned, or understood & petted.

Thre is at least another shoe to drop in this story.

With all the unsolved murders and rapes in our country, the FBI is spending their time (and our $) investigating college students for a prank in which they hung a cardboard likeness of Obama from a tree?

I’m glad to see they’ve got their priorities straight!

Posted by Madison Grant at 11:05 PM on October 1

“The FBI is investigating whether any civil rights were violated.”

Yet they don’t have enough manpower or time to investigate the many anti-white, black on white attacks and murders that abound in this country. But they do have time and manpower galore to devote to a matter of very little consequence, simply because it involves one of the emipres sacred subjects.

I imagine they were on their way to investigating a jihadist camp that is suspected of perpetrating attacks at any moment, but this far more important matter had to be tended to first.

If it were in my power, I’d reduce their manpower and budget to just about half.

This is like the USSR when everyone was forced to worship icons of Lenin and communist leaders.

Obama will be the next pol pot at this rate.

“long term suspension and public service”? I’d tell them to break their “college” off in their you know what. When are our people going to get the fact that “college” is the most overated institution going and that the founders of all of our iconic companies, starting with Microsoft,Apple, and Oracle either dropped out of college, never went there, or dropped out of school.Furthermore, this country was founded, built, and made great by white people who had little or no formal schooling. The cuurent tyranny gets worse until we whites reject schooling in toto and the vicious, rotten, antiwhite, antimind, death worshipping, depraved, perverted, secular monotheist ideology that is necessary to its very survival.

They “confessed”? Confessed to what? Hanging up a cardboard cut-out of Barack Obama?

Oh…my…God…..let’s call out the National Guard.

Posted by Cliff Yablonski at 2:24 AM on October 2

Seriously, what did these kids think would happen? Your right to speak your mind ends where a protected class’s feelings begin, and that’s the law of the land. Particularly crude or harsh criticism of President Obama will be treated as a hate crime.

We’ll soon see if the current era of willy-nilly reckless free speech by dangerous heretics and hate-mongers on the web can survive a Dem-controlled Congress and Presidency. I’d give it even odds.

Posted by at 5:55 AM on October 2

this happenned at a formerly private school, which has been transformed into a diversity obsessed school managed by liberals where someone wrote the “N” word or something riculous like that on a black students dorm door. the dean came out making similar speeches about being outraged over the racist act. they also had a stupid vigil, of course about racism and vowed to catch the racist hooligans. well as the investigation proceeded, the evidence pointed to a black student, where upon the investigation came to an abrupt halt, of course, and the story never was in my newspaper again. this story is the same thing. a “hate crime hoax.”

The U.S. is the 21st century U.S.S.R. and the FBI is the new KGB. Like it or not, that’s the way it is in Amerika. You have no rights unless they pass the litmus test of the libs and neo-cons in power. So long, America, it was nice to know ya!

If hanging a symbol of a Black Man on a tree is rude, do we need to take down all the crosses with Jesus, since that would be a Jew on a tree?

Will the FBI investigate all the churches with a Jew on the tree?

The FBI is investigating a college prank? I admit the whole Obama hanging business was distasteful and childish, but couldn’t the university handle it without the FBI? Doesn’t the FBI have something better to do?

Posted by Sardonicus at 1:32 PM on October 2

Do some research on today’s FBI and you’ll discover it consists primarily of black males and liberal white females. These are two groups harbor a distinct hatred of white males. They no longer serve the people, but are instead front line soldiers in the war to emasculate the rights and political power of whites.

These students were very foolish. Never confess to anything, especially since university administrators are not the police; you are not required to tell them the truth, even if you do say anything. When dealing with these pencil-pushers, admit nothing. Deny everything. Make counter-accusations.

Posted by Michael C. Scott at 4:30 PM on October 2

well they aren`t investagating that artist who hung a confederate flag, why cause hes black, and it was art he said lets just hang an effigy of obama and call it art.

Posted by talon1 at 9:23 PM on October 2

Never confess to anything, especially since university administrators are not the police; you are not required to tell them the truth, even if you do say anything.

Actually, if you decide to talk, you are required to tell them the truth. Lying to the police, even if you do so to avoid incriminating yourself, can be considered obstruction of justice. That’s what they got Martha Stewart for, remember?

The only safe course of action when dealing with the police is to immediately invoke your right to remain silent, say nothing at all and let your lawyer do all the talking.

Posted by Travis Bickle at 10:44 PM on October 2

What is the crime?

If there is no crime that has been committed, then what is the rationale for the punishment?

Posted by ghw at 4:28 AM on October 3

How stupid can anybody be? In today’s times, knowing that you can’t even look at a minority the wrong way or the FBI could be called in to investigate, why in hell would you do this kind of stupid thing. While I agree 100% that had 4 black students hung an effigy of John McCain or Sarah Palin, they would have been slapped on the wrist (lightly) and sent on their merry way. But for white kids to do this kind of thing and the admit to it is beyond me.

As much as I hate to say it, when you’re going to do something like this, you should do it alone and then nobody else can fink on you.

since when did fbi become thought police? by whose authority?why do we as a people continue to except laws that are uncostitutional? maybe we no longer need an fbi, maybe some agency should investigate fbi for its myriad failures.

Then that means that their efficiency has been compromised and the office is most likely close to incompetent.
Another glorious benefit of Die-versity.

“FBI investigating”————-This is all the FBI has to do ? No wonder they were completely unable to stop 9-11 , even after an ample warning in the ‘93 attack on the WTC . Maybe the Keystone Cops would be cheaper and more effective .

Posted by at 3:05 PM on October 4

Yes, Travis Bickle, anything you tell the police had better be the truth, but university administrators are not the police. Lie to them to your heart’s content.

Posted by Michael C. Scott at 3:48 PM on October 6

Why are there no repercussions for the two “good American citizens” who hung the likeness of Palin in LA? To my understanding that mannequin is still being displayed and there is no consequence or investigation by the FBI to punish these guys. Can we say double standard? Where are the super feminists when we need them most? Shouldn’t they come to the rescue for such an offense against women?
